Coffee, pah, purely for metrosexuals who like buying silly expensive machines and boring people senseless. Tea, the empire was built on it.

In or out of date they do grim things to my digestive system, but this only seems an issue to my co-workers. But my personal faves, Viper Boost Bars, make me smell like I am dying on the inside.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour this year, and feel it was a well deserved victory for Evans, he rode with true grit. It was a shame wiggins crashed out before his race really began, and I was also disappointed contador couldn’t keep the same blistering form he had in the giro (cue the haters). But watching a schleck ask evans to chase contador up the alpe d’heuz showed some cheek, Evans had them all right where he wanted them.

Excellent, clearly the original matter was resolved by a rational decent seller who clearly isn’t a totally stupid bell end…………….

Wait, why is the guy with the yellow jersey not at the front?

I would have thought a former king of the mountains would know this? ;-)

Maybe having your stem up in orbit is fine for cx or tourers, but I wouldn’t fancy it on my road bike. Despite the advantages claimed by some folk, i don’t hear any appetite for hydro brakes amongst the guys I race with. However I’m sure if the bike companies want us to have them, in the end…..

I’ve got a lovely 05 principia which probably see’s the most of my riding; it’s light, feels great and is plenty comfy enough for big rides. The fact it’s Alu, rarely enters my head. But it’s not as nice as my parlee.

    From the other forum thread;

First rule of internet forum usage: Never expect a decent or sensible reply from anyone on Singletrack….ever.
They should teach these rules in school to save future generations from a load of worthless grief and hassle.

 it’s only the worthless grief and hassle that keeps me going!

I think you are right to expect your new bike to arrive unscratched and in new cosmetic condition; then you can get it all scratched up yourself, it’s one of the joys of buying a new bike. I think the bike shop should sort you out properly. Some people may live with that little scratch, but you are well within your rights imo to ask for it to be sorted. But you do seem a bit mental.

I just can’t get with the notion that somehow I have to court a bike shop to get a good price, I don’t want to have to be buying them cake or pretending we are all such great mates. I have real friends so that base is covered, i just want decent service and a good price. If I’m laying down serious cash, I’ll want to deal, but I don’t want to be dicking around to get 2 quid off some headset or wasting my life staring at stuff in a shop just to groom some lbs when I could be riding. I don’t mind paying a few quid more on smaller items if I just get good effecient service. But given the range of views on here, the lbs has a tough task, and they will never please everyone.

I have 105 brakes with standard shimano pads on my commuter/ training bike, with fulcrum 5 wheels, and have always found their performance great. I can’t say i set them up with ‘fag paper’ tolerances as I like some pull at the lever, and find the 105’s offer enough stopping power for that.

Shame, I’ve had some great weekends at Polaris events, and it was that survival type feel that really added to the event. But at least they are adapting to changes in the market and the sport, and I’m sure the events will still be good fun. Plus I can still get out there with my tent and my bike, and always have done even without Polaris having to organise an event.

Is he thinking ‘what tyres for riding through the glen?’ or ‘next time I set up a merry band of men I’m going to do it in a forest with some decent **** riding in’.

If everyone had a couple of pints before they got behind the wheel they would feel much more relaxed and confident, which would surely help.

Nice bike, hope she enjoys it. I’ve been thinking about picking one of these up, but at just over 5’9 myself I was going to go for a medium, if it’s not to personal, what’s your gr’s inside leg measurement?

As someone tweeted yesterday: 1. He’s not Italian 2. Saxobank were heavily involved in the course change 3. they think he should be banned. So probably a slight combo of all three things, but mainly due to the course change imo.

I did have to giggle at the fan who ran next to contador with some beef on the end of a fishing rod waving it in front of him.

Chuck in a couple of viper boost bars, they are my ultimate roadie snack. If you are putting in serious miles they are a real pick up, not the most calorie dense, but choc full of stimulants that convince your brain that your legs have got more left. I reckon if you ate 3 you might become pyschotic, and they give you hideous wind, what more could you want ?

There was some fat knacker interviewed on the BBC news this morning who was at pains to point out that she was a student and still attending to show her support for the cuts. She unfortunately went on to point out the only cut she didn’t agree with was the rise in student fees, so really just the cuts that didn’t effect her, marvelous stuff.

Why not try an xc race op? you don’t have to win, just enter the easiest cat on offer, then race. It’s a crazy notion, and it involves riding a bike, but you might enjoy it. Then you will have a race history and can continue buying new parts based on their re-sale value to xc racers. Otherwise their forum, their rules.

I find them no more odd than a group of chubby middle aged blokes with german cars who attend trail centres with bikes dripping in this year best kit, showroom fresh and dressed as storm troopers; who then ignore you as you pass them on the trail. You then see them in the pub in their evening uniform of skate shoes, howies jeans and ‘cool’ mtb t-shirts, talking with ernest intent about the coating on forks and ‘flow’ whilst not drinking enough beer. But as with ‘serious sportive’ riders, I just think well they are doing their thing and having fun and that’s what counts, they aren’t hurting anyone so who am I to judge.

Got back from a weeks solo camping in the peak, where I clocked over 500 miles; so just popped into Manchester on my commuter, met a friend and we have spent the day bike bimbling around the city stopping for plenty of tea and food. We are now sharing a tidy bottle of white in a sunny beer garden, she has just popped a snooze in and I’m enjoying the sun and messing about on me phone; been a great day. Next up will be pop home to scrub up, then more food and beer, life is good!
