Been using dt revs for years in all my mtb wheels; used for racing and general trail riding in the peak and lakes without any issue. I only weigh about 67kg, but don’t go easy on the bike. Had wheels with revs built by lbs, merlin and crc, and all have been fine.

Legging it just suggests (to them) you know what you did was wrong, and you are running off to avoid the consequences of your actions. Plus it makes you look like bit of a chicken, which makes it more likely the pursueing party will seek retribution. I wouldn’t bother to challenge someone unless I intend to stay and stand my point, and if my gut told me who I was about to challenge was proper mental I would let it go. I don’t ascribe to the world view that everyone could be nutter, and when I do challenge someone I expect some reaction. But glad you are ok.

Shopping or the chance to bike round edale in glorious sunshine? The fact you have to ask is shameful.

Winter jacket for my daily commute, replacing my 2 year old aldi one, and a couple of compression tops. Had the socks and gloves before but found them pretty toss.

Fair play, it’s getting the job done. It’s also good to know Al isn’t the only rebel frame mod’ing maverick out there.

I picked up a planet x ti sportive last year looking to replace my 04 workhorse alu principia. I already had a parlee for racing and best. As the year rolled on the planet x got the least miles, it just didn’t have the zip of the principia and in rides of up to 4 hours I didn’t find the extra comfort it offered made a difference to me. Compared to the z4 it just felt like a lump. So I ended up selling it on. I don’t think it was a bad bike, it was light enough, stiff enough and comfy enough; but didn’t really shine in those departments either. It just didn’t offer my riding much at all. There are probably better ti bikes out there, but you asked for personal experience. But to be fair if this is going to be your first road bike, I can’t see you being unhappy with either.

Chose to go without a car when after I had a year living in new york without one about 7 years ago. I live in Manchester with a 9 mile each way ride to work. I do hire a car or van about 2 or 3 times a year, and use planes, trains and public transport for some local trips. I don’t have kids so it’s pretty easy for me. I haven’t really done any cost comparisons to what I spend versus owning a car, as I didn’t do it as a cost thing. I just couldn’t see why I needed a car.

Errmmmm – urban cycling is about transport. Nothing more and nothing less.

Only if you want to make it a dour experience, but that’s your choice. Granted, for me through the worst of a wet manchester winter it’s about transport and training miles. But in finer weather, I choose routes/ bikes to make things as much fun as possible, I don’t see why the trip to and from work should just be ‘getting to work’.

Rome has been the worst place for me, cycle commuter there for 6 months enjoying their rush hour traffic twice daily. Made coming back to manchester seem sedate, well apart from the weather. Had year in new york and that could be a bit lively in rush hour to.

I don’t have an issue with the OP’s review, unfortunately for the OP it sounds like it was a toss week and I’m grateful for the review. I can’t understand why though, that nothing was said whilst they were there. Not due to any issues of fairness to the company, but if it was my hard earned paying for a rubbish holiday I would want to sort it and at least salvage a couple of days/ or some cash back. I would have been in Alan’s face every minute of the day, assertive but still respectful, but I have no shame.

Never thought a seatpost would cause so much discussion! Aesthetics don’t really matter here. It’s all about position on the bike. A layback seatpost does not mean that a frame does not fit. So, here goes:

    1) The frame was built with a seat angle suitable for an in-line seatpost and an SLR saddle in mind to position me 8.5cms behind the bb.

    2) I subsequently changed to a Fizik saddle which is taller and differently proportioned to the SLR, which in theory positioned me further forward than the in-line/SLR position. I therefore fitted a layback seatpost.

    3) Actually, I can get away with an in-line seatpost even using the Fizik and achieve the same position, so fortunately I will be able to fit an in-line Thomson post instead which will look nicer. The Thomson layback post does indeed look a bit strange, although only achieves the same position as any other layback post.

I’ll post a picture when I fit the inline.

In terms of the headset, there’s nowt wrong with an external headset, and Chris King is the daddy! Instead of an oversized headset, the downtube and toptube wrap around the headtube, giving all of the stiffness you would ever want. It’s just a different approach. Yes, a bit old school, but that’s why I like it!

Sorry, I didn’t realise we weren’t supposed to comment. You are a chap lucky enough to have some awesome bikes, just relax a bit and enjoy them.

Frame looks really sweet, but sadly the eye is drawn to that ugly seatpost. Nothing against offset, all my road bikes have them, it’s just the thomson is ugly and it’s ruining the lines of your lovely bike.
Edit – a second viewing also leaves me wondering what that external headset brings to the party. All that lovely work on the headtube just looks cluttered by it.

I had a 29er scandal which I ran for a year alongside my only other mtb a cotic soul. I didn’t really touch the soul for 6 months, but found myself neither over or under whelmed by the scandal and did try quite a few different set up to see if I could get it to really work for me. I just found myself enjoying the soul more when I did ride it, it just made me grin a bit more. Both bikes had their merits, so it term of ‘betterer’ I couldn’t really say. I would identify myself as a roadie in biking labels, so don’t really give a monkeys about 26v29er debate, I’m not really bothered what size wheels mtb’s use. Had I tried a different 29er things might have been different.

I’m pretty sure from reading this thread that any none 100% gushing things I found about my 29er, would not be shared by rocketdog

Hope that helps, also perhaps saying where it was taken from might be useful. Rather unfairly, I will have to note that your post is very similar to those ebay/ gumtree ads selling stolen bikes.

Anyway I’m off to the seedier side of the internet to please my orginal bell 8O

Yes, there’s no market for them.

If they make them there will be a market, good idea or bad. There are plenty if cyclists out there proudly wearing their emperors new clothes.

I’d like to see a round up of mtb’ing events from pro’s down to grass route level stuff. But to be fair I stopped reading any mtb mags a couple of years ago, as they just couldn’t hold my interest. So perhapsy opinion isn’t worth much.

    From the road.cc article

We know we’re probably pitched £100-£150 more than other bikes with good carbon frames and Shimano 105 components but our customers being mountain bikers are used to…

buying our over priced mountain bikes

but seriously, I’m sure it will make a great bike for someone who wants to say ‘I’m really a mountain biker’ whilst on a road bike.

andrewh – I can only speak from my experience. I’ve had a two shite purchases with companies other are praising above. I doubt anyone’s perfect, but given the OP was just asking for pleasent examples of good customer service that folk have had, I just went with that. It seemed easier that trying to guess if random strangers have had a similar experience

In terms of great customer service when having an issue; fatbirds, Rapha
and crc have been great. In respect of ordering and getting prompt delivery; all the previously mentioned and wiggle, merlin, probikekit, planet x, shiney bikes, cycle bargains, sjs, high on bikes and bulkpowders always deliver as stated.

Whilst the sod off options looks tempting, I’d probably offer refund on return. Saves trouble and should be no trouble getting rid again, buyer sounds a dick.

My brother had a pretty thorough plan for making himself a wealthy and powerful man. To be fair he worked really hard at it and made many sacrifices to achieve his goals. He was doing pretty well for quite a few years, and making a bloody good living, far more money than I’m getting as a nurse. But his plan was making cash through selling drugs, and he currently resides at one of her majesty’s prisons and will do for some time. Not all plans are good.
As someone who spends his working life asking people why they have tried to top themselves; I’d say really rigid plans with unrealistic expectations and no flexibility are a bit rubbish, but so is having no plan at all.

Throughout recent history we have constantly sought a golden age where life was better and we all lived by good wholesome British values, but this time has never existed with each generation referring it back to their childhood or about 20 years ago. We have always also tried link deviant behaviour to foreigners. Truth is Cameron just needs a folkdevil for us all to be scared of, it will hopefully distract us from the fact he is shafting us.

I don’t bother with fluids for crits, I tend to find the adrenaline and hussle and bustle keep me more than engaged. Well hydrated and a viper boost bar 20 mins before set me up. If you are unsure just take a bottle with some fluid in it.

The generally poor quality of bike shop spannering I have encountered over the years, led me down the DIY route. Once you are into it, you will never look back.

edit – I did want to have a giggle about one of the most wet posts I’ve ever read. But there are clearly some issues in your life, that I’m not aware of. I’m not sure Benji was when he wrote that article either, don’t take it personally.
