Aye, the controltech is 5mm shorter, but 43 offset should balance that. Put a post up on velobuild.com, someone on their may well be able to point you in the direction of a Chinese seller.

Controltech lightenings are a good price at crc for a full carbon fork. Light and i find the quality of controltech carbon always good. Quite understated looks wise which might suit a steel frame imo.

Yes I do; I do stop at a lot of red lights, but do jump some.

Edit – always stop at zebra crossings if folk are on then.

Issue with some dodgy brakes, it dragged out for a bit.

Or limit the use of the classifieds to those who are premium members? This may also entice more premium members in!

But there has been one scammer who was a premier member, and any mention of this gets deleted by the mods. Rather like diplomatic immunity!

I’m sure this thread will resolve this debate, once and for all.

I can’t afford £331 either (just becasue I have a bike worth £lots doesn’t mean I’m wealthy, quite the opposite in fact, I’ve blown all my money on a rather expensive bike.[/quote

I always enjoy an all eggs in one basket approach, good man.

Watsontony is real? I thought he was the new markdatz….

Still; mtb’ing, i suppose it’s better than sniffing glue.

When i started riding a hardtail i instantly became an awesome rider, became more attractive to girls, got a promotion at work and am now immune to HIV.

Was up there for a weekend in June, and had a blast, but i must admit i wasn’t looking for a bromance or ‘owt. Seemed friendly enough to me; sorry to not join in the bed wetting.

Despite the ongoing debate, I’m sure we can all agree that the only real losers are those that wear pro team kit on their Sunday pootle. What do they think they look like? the knobs.

Yep, all roadies are cocks, and become bigger cocks linked to the value of their bikes.

You would have have none of this fuss from a salt of the earth mountain bike riding an entry level hard tail.

Shocking stuff you should have evoked the spirit of Clarkson and mowed through them all listening to some pile of shite soft rock cd.

Bad luck is not a warranty claim, it’s just difficult to swallow.

Not yet, but will now. Still in the early planning stage, so probably be about 3 months before i go.

Cheers Angus and Shorty – I’m looking at being there for 9 to 12 months so could stomach £500 to get one there and back, it’s about £5k worth of bike (race bike and spare wheels). Was going to buy a cheap road bike for training/ commuting when I got there. Employer paying flights etc, but will check out air NZ. Thanks again.

Kuco – yes he did, if Cav were to be happy riding with a team with a GC/ yellow jersey focus (well, plan of total domination). So I guess we can all speculate as to the message Cav has taken. Not wanting to argue with the experts on here, but no sure i would be happy as one of the worlds best sprinters and be essentially a domestic with some perks.

Disappointing result, but hats off to Vino and all the riders who hit that break. I had money riding on Boonan and thought i could have been in when he was in the break, but he just came out the back, i assumed he had a mechanical or nuked. Bit gutted for cav, particularly as brailsford said he was welcome to bog off from sky.

I use road id; carries my name, dob(i think), emergency contact and DNAR. Thankfully, i’ve not had to find out if the paramedics will oblige yet.

Rsx rear mech, circa 1996, was originally on my race bike, but still going strong in daily use on my commuter.

Yep, last week the bastards made me buy some new carbon bars for £58 down from 199, they delivered them promptly and i fitted them last night and rode today in the glorious sunshine. It’s an outrage.

I know there is no point debating this with the experts.

I have really enjoyed Tommy V’s return to form mid race.

Sky will grind away until everyone of any slight threat is ‘neutralised’, and let anyone else go. Compelling yes, but give me two drug filled cheats attacking each other like rabid dogs up the hills any day. I’ll be chuffed for brad, he and the team have earned it, but other than the result and sagan it won’t be a tour to remember for me.

Dura ace wheelsets for racing and dry miles, cartridge for the wet, training, commuting and on the mtb is my general rule of thumb. Works for me, mainly as i’ve decided that’s what i’m happy with, and i’ve always had a soft spot for dura ace.

    I get these from Germany

Edit – equally the rs30’s are nice, but bearing change in the fulcrum’s is a doddle .

Contador used an apex rear mech and 11-32 in last years giro for the really steep stages, iirc miller had 11-36 and some xx mtb bits, and now wiggo. Obviously if they were as hard as some stw’ers, they would be on 53/39 with 11-23 out back.

    Buff……cool look….???

A buff is a great piece of kit for a variety of activities, but a soon as you stop doing the activity it makes you look a douche.

There are a lot better places to upgrade an mtb in my book, I use the cheapest chains on my mtb for lesuire and racing, changed regularly i’ve never had an issue. But this stw so many may beg to differ.

Rickos – fair enough, but the chap who stopped had no idea how serious it was and just stopped to ask if i needed any help. In fact, i tried to tell him all was in hand, as i’d nearly pushed my way into buxton, with the intention of picking up some clothes and a hotel room, and going to some outdoor event type thing as it was a glorious day, and i could get a wheel sorted in the morning. But he engaged me in further conversation and in no time were heading back to manchester.

I trashed my rear wheel on a road ride in the peak, a bloke in a van stopped to see if i needed any assistance. As my rim had split in two there was no saving it, but he offered me and bike a lift back to north manchester, and wouldn’t take any money for petrol etc, he said he had nowt on and was happy to do someone a favour. I’m glad he didn’t mind the fact i was on a pricey bike.

Hope they don’t have a blue P before their user name, there seems to be a diplomatic immunity scheme for one member whose name and reference to the incident cannot be mentioned without the mods deleting the posts. I wonder if this post will last long enough for you to read it……

I thought i’d love my cx bike, i’m a keen roadie who enjoys a regular blast out on the mtb. But i found it a drag on the roads with cx tyres and i was too upright compared to my road bikes, and less fun off road than my soul. So in short rather than it combining 2 things i love into something awesome, it combined them into something not quite as good as either for me. I think cx bikes are very capable bikes, and i’m sure they are spot on for some riders, just not me.
