Luckily I stocked up from the public grit bin last week when we had no snow so nobody gave a hoot 😈
Last night we had a foot of snow and there has been a queue of squabbling folk at the grit bin all morning
SmartyFree MemberThanks TurnerGuy that’s a little clearer. I understand your first post now, the bit about waiting for it to flop then freesat can improve, I get that now but will that happen?
really not sure about going for satelite, next door had terrible problems with sky and was told it was due to our location. The wind and rain, which blows strong and almost constantly up here would rattle the dish and the signal dropped off making picture freeze and lock up, I don’t know if this can/would happen but I know they had it taken out.
We’re near the top of one the biggest hills around here, facing southwest with MILES of clear views, i.e. no shelter from the wind at all (a still day is like gale force up here). This actually seems to help us for freeview tho’ as we have a clear line of sight to the mast, about 3 miles away, I’m looking at it from my window now. Freeview signal strength and quality is right up at the top on our tele. Also semi rural location means we have no cable services, I checked Virgin TV website and it confirmed that we cannot have it. Only really leaves freeview, which is fine as it is but as in OP just wanted to know if HD was worth having and I would like a recorder.ton, I’m interested in that Triax box, I’ll speak to Mrs Smarty tomorrow.

HD is stunning. But watching SD after it is awful. That’s what I wanted to hear.

can you get freeview hd in your area? most areas you can’t till 2012Yes, since 18th feb 2010.
TurnerGuy – Member
Don’t get freeview HD, let it fail as a commercial disaster and then they might stop crippling the freesat HD channels to bring them down to the reduced quality of freeview HD…On the Virgin V+ box there is not a huge difference to the SD channels when the source material behind was original filmed in HD.
I didn’t understand a word of that 😳

got some triax hd+ freeviews on offer at £199+vat
very reliable unit. we sell loads of them.ton, from reading your prevoius posts I think you’re local to me. So, what do you do to ‘sell loads of them’? Do you have a shop? Work in a shop? When do your sales start? 😉
SmartyFree MemberWee in his shoes, he’ll appreciate the warmth after he’s been walking barefoot in the snow
SmartyFree MemberSorry AndyRT, I didn’t know where you were.
Could have been a plan if you’d have been local to me.SmartyFree MemberAndyRT, where are you, there is such a thing sat in my shed. BMX scooter thingy, brakes front and rear, black mag wheels etc…..
Like this one but in red/blue/black. It could be yours for £25 if you came for it, good condition, hardly used just needs a good dusting off. Pendle area, Lancs.
SmartyFree Member5’9 1/4″ (the quarter is important 😛 ) on a medium Superlight, inline post and 90mm stem, perfect fit.
SmartyFree MemberThis was done recently
read through thisSomewhere in that thread I posted a link to the DVLA form that you need to do the job, just print it and fill it in.
Good luck.
SmartyFree MemberMy Wife is a self employed cleaner and has had many vacuum cleaners
Dysons don’t last more than 6 months – got 4 dead ones in the garage
Currently running a Henry and a Vax Mach Air 2 which is still going strong after 12 months of use.
SmartyFree MemberTony, which part of Gizzy are you building? Put an extra brew in your flask, I’ll come and visit 😉
SmartyFree MemberDunno but let me know what it’s like when you get back, I might go Sunday morning.
SmartyFree MemberWith the Hope ones you need to cut off the braided part at each end to expose the plastic hose underneath The steel shroud is actually different for the braided hose as it has a bigger hole through to accept the braided hose then fit the olive onto the exposed plastic hose. put it all back together and bleed. Job done.

as it is 210 square metres so fits all the family around a big table.😯 😯 😯
SmartyFree MemberThe traditional way to do it is to drop a chicken down the chimney 😯
SmartyFree Membercnud, I think when itunes installed it created a destination folder for the files to be stored. I’m a fair nooooob myself so I would have just clicked ok to the default location which on my comp is
C:/users/smarty/music/itunes/itunes media/music
I just copy the contents of that music folder onto the external HDD
Just the same as with photos and documents etc…You just need to find the folder on your comp with the files in it, simplesSmartyFree MemberGood luck! This happened to me last year and what was said to me by itunes was that purchases are only available to download ONCE. As you have already downloaded them once that’s it. I lost loads of stuff. I did argue that they have a list of what I have purchased so where’s the problem in letting me download it again. I back up to external HDD now so I’ll still have everything if it happens again.
Unless they’ve changed their policy I’d say you’re screwed.SmartyFree MemberNo boblo, your vehicle will not NEED inspecting but MAY be inspected.
This is the quote directly from the DVLA form V317-application to transfer or retain a registration number
The DVLA local office may want to inspect your
vehicle. If so, the local office will tell you the date
and place of the inspection. My plate has been on 5 of my cars and never had one inspected yet.
PGreen here’s the link to the form that you need, just print it and fill it in. Just a point, read the bit about the grantee, the person you bought the car off may own the rights to the plate, which opens up a new can of worms. Good though
Form V317 – Application to tansfer or retain a registration number
SmartyFree MemberWhy not leave it where it is, it’ll cost you nothing and may even add a little a value to the car if you ever sell it on.
SmartyFree MemberIME don’t deal with anybody other than DVLA. All you need to do is apply to put the plate on retention, it’s about £104, it think, and a simple form to fill in, V5, MOT and photo copy of Tax will have to be sent to DVLA or can be done in a DVLA office in person. The car having never had an age related plate will be given one with random letters, new V5, MOT and tax disc issued with new reg and a certificate so you can get the plates made. Only thing, if it matters, is when new it would have been area related as well ass age, e.g. our new car would have been PN60 ??? (preston north) but as we put our plate on it will be given a totally random one if we ever take it off E.G. YK60 ???. Once all that is done it easier to sell the private reg. This can be done at one of the many DVLA auctions, you will be advised by them on reserve price etc. Out of interest without giving the full reg what are the initials?
SmartyFree MemberRight across from our house is a quiet lane that accesses the fields and I see this guy every day, about late 40s, not sure he’s all there, doing running on the spot and sprinting between 2 posts, star jumps, running backwards etc, he looks a proper knob! I had a chat with him one day while walking the dog and he said he was an ex-footballer (nobody famous) who gave up through injury but liked to keep fit without paying for the gym, so he goes for a walk, finds a quiet lane, spends 20 minutes running about and walks home, simples.
Just getting out there and doing something is the key, I suppose. Try the local park or any open space.
Me, I’m gonna make another cuppuchino and read the paper 😆SmartyFree MemberTimber off cuts from the local wood yard £10 for a HUGE load
Crosscut saw in the shed to cut it up for kindling £180
Ifor Williams trailer to transport wood £850
Towbar fitting to new car to pull trailer £280
Seasoned hardwood logs per cubic meter bag +fuel to collect it £35
Tanalised timbers and roofing slates to build log store £230
Chainsaw £200
Hydraulic log splitter £310
The look, smell and heat from a real fire……………PRICELESSSmartyFree MemberAnd yes, birds are just about achievable for foxes, but very rarely so
I’m sure my chickens would be comforted by that thought 😛
SmartyFree Memberoldgit,
I’m not sure I get it 😳
I’ve read the OP over and over and what I read it is that this ex employee has optained mobile phones fraudulantly by using your company name, please correct me if I’m wrong. So where’s the case against you? Or is it that they obtain these phones by claiming to BE you, in which case is it not a case of identity theft? Surely you only have to prove that this ex employee had no right to do that and I’m sure that could be done without the expense of court action?A couple of years ago my Wifes company(sole trader) received a letter from the local courts asking her to provide details of wages for an employee. This was strange as she has never, ever employed anybody 😯 So she filled in the form provided explaining this fact. A few weeks of nothing heard and a letter arrived from bailiffs forcing my Wifes company to provide these wages details. Again she filled in the forms provided explaining no employees, ever. Week later a phone call from the bailiffs just to say that they had called at our house that day 😯 (i took the call) very nice lady at the bailiffs said she was shocked to find a private house when she called, she was expecting a company premise/offices type place. I explained to her on the phone that Wife’s a self employed cleaner and has never employed anyone ETC ETC…and we couldn’t understand why we should be getting these letters. Bailiff said not to worry as she could cleary see that and had the all paperwork she now needed and we shouldn’t hear anything again. Turns out that some ramdom bod has obtained finance by claiming to work as a cleaner for my Wifes cleaning company and the finance company had taken court action against this person. We never have heard anything since.
Begs the question though, how easy must it be to obtain finance/mobile phones/whatever by just giving some random job details or someone else name.I do hope you get it sorted oldgit, must be worrying.
Do you want me to bake you a cake with a file in it? 😛SmartyFree Membervery lucky escape by the sound of it. It seems YOU are ok which is the main thing.
SmartyFree MemberHarry, I like the ‘Jam Cams’ I’ve never seen them before. It doesn’t look too bad around there right now and I expect it’ll be very quiet at midnight, I was just worried about the snow.
SmartyFree Memberquote]We just bought two doors like Smarty’s for our project house. What did you use to treat/coat/whatever them?
[/quote]
Very lucky with our doors as every door in the house is original with the backplates and knobs too.
Miketually – after stripping I just made sure they were gently dried at room temp, lots of sanding, lots of clear wax and lots of buffing of that wax. Took apart the backplates polished the brass internals, sprayed the body matt black and french polished the knobs on my lathe
[SmartyFree MemberI wouldn’t say that stoner, not much up to your handywork but still with my own hands 🙂
Here’s what I did with the other fireplace, not quite a stove but…….

and 2 after
SmartyFree MemberYes very good, BG weren’t very good at setting our direct debit at a sensible level. I told them it’s not rocket science, last years usage plus whatever for price increase and divided by 12 but they always wanted to set DD at a lot more than this.
Went onto the energy smart tariff early this year and it’s great, get a text message and email each month reminding us to submit a meter reading, log in to account on BG website, submit the readings and they bill us for exactly what we’ve used that month and take it by DD on a set date. It does rely on you being honest and obviously the bills will be more in the winter months but at least you don’t have to pay them too much during the summer and end up in credit (which we found).
It’s like the old quarterly billing method where you pay for what you’ve used, only monthly, simples 😆SmartyFree MemberI was having a look at the Fiat equivalent to that Blipper thing – it doesn’t look long enough to take a bike and if I’m being honest I suspect you’d need to put all the seats down in the back and get the bike to go across the available space…great idea just not big enough to take a bike usefully – I ride an 18.5″ framed 26″ wheeled 120mm full bouncer – not the largest but not the smallest.
You might be right, although I have had MTB in (medium santa cruz SL) with front wheel out and only the smaller portion of the rear seat folded but it was at a diagonal angle. From inside of tailgate to back of rear seats measures 58 inches and floor to ceiling 45 inch, with the rear seats out I recon it’ll take a few bikes in as long they’re not XL MTBs with 150mm. I’m useing tow bar mounted carrier so never tried it.
SmartyFree MemberPeugeot Bipper Tepee – Small but big inside, good MPGs £30 a year to tax, sliding doors on both sides, huge tailgate opening, back seats fold split or come out completely, STUPID NAME!!!
