There is a whole load of technique you need to employ on a FS that you dont use on a HT.

I can’t think of any, could you be more specific?

You use the suspension to gain grip / air / pop etc where a HT couldnt do

suspension can help with grip over rough ground, sure. Proper technique makes more difference though. Wrong on the air/pop thing though, watch some BMX if you need proof

Outstanding! I’ve heard mention of this guy, too funny!

Technique is the same regardless of ht or fs. Coaching and practice makes you a better rider, arguing about which bike is better makes you a true STWer

Was a great one Tony, so many folk progressing on to new stuff. Credit due for that air supply line, I never thought a 25ft gap would feel so chilled!

    Chamonix next weekend!!!!!!!!!

Longest pootle thread ever? There must have been a good dozen punctures, every descent claimed 3 or 4, even the linykyup nondescript ones.

Was great to have so many new folk along, cheers all.

I just bought this after mucking about at Corby with Jedi, absolute bargain! Changed the tyres and stem and put some metal pedals on. Lovely lil bike.

I’ve got to be up and back super early tomorrow for DIY duty but I’m riding Kinder Circuit in the morning- just incase I bump into you!

I miss the days when Hora used to make an effort with his excuses; ‘I cant come because I need too buy some mint sauce for my lamb’ was a good one, ‘I’m in Scotland’ when he was late for a ride he organised was a particular highlight too…

If you’re doing it somewhere fun I’ll come cos I like sessioning stuff. Not too bothered about taking pics tho, don’t have the patience!

You can be slowrider if I can be pook. I’ve always fancied dishing out lectures on responsible access, making shonky edits and nipping off for a struggle cuddle with hora in the bushes. Oh the perks of being self appointed keeper of the peaks 8)

It sounds like you are in a similar position to me, a couple of decades worth of bad habits to undo! Stick at it, make time to session stuff and practice the techniques tony showed you, it soon becomes instinctive. I’m almost 9 months since my last coaching session and still feeling the progression. The days of REALLY enjoying your riding start now!

Yep, you answered your own question: go see Jedi. It’s the same skills set for jumps, drops etc…assuming you’re doing it right in the first place :-)

My dads was a us import so wasn’t top of the warranty pile. Good of them to do it at all tbh. Jedi’s was turned around in days.

My old man wrecked his in a crash, still got it fixed under warranty FOC. Jedi sent his back recently and had a positive outcome too. I’d hope your experience would be similar.

^+1 reach and stack is what you need so you know how the bikes fit whilst standing.

What Mase is saying hob nob, is that the shock mount on the front end and trhe shock mount on the swingarm are now closer together. which is obviously true.

another thing to consider is how both options affect the rest of your geometry; angle headsets drop the bb slightly and steepen the seat angle whilst slackening the head angle, whereas offset bushing drop the bb and slacken the seat angle whilst slackening the head angle.

    decisions, decisions!

bellerophon, all of the skills transfer readily. Getting it right on the trail leads to being able to apply the same skills to other areas; north shore or dirt jumping for example. you don’t start by learning on the high consequence stuff, that would be daft

yeah, he’s good at what he does!

I’m a REALLY slow learner and still haven’t completely cracked the skills Tony taught me. I’m approximately a million percent more RAD than I was though.

firstly, this is purely a devils advocate post. im all for the pirate bay etc, make my evenings far less boring

    but..

    what if roles were reversed?

for example, if you did some kind of programmy computery thing for your job so needed the income, but some corporate giant owned by murdoch or whoever found a way to take it straight from your computer and use it for their own needs rather than pay you for it?

this isnt going to stop my piracy btw… yaaarrgh!

it was ok at climbing, with the exception of the zesty i havent ridden a bike under 35lbs in years and always with a single ring up front so im used to grunting my way up stuff. the spicy was stretched out enough for me to climb comfortably in the saddle without needing to shift my weight much.

i think a key element was the coil shocks, both spicy and zesty felt skittery with air shocks to me.

    slowrider

i had a ’10 spicy 316 and an ’11 zesty 714. spicy won for the fun factor, especially with coil shocks f+r.
