Juan I don’t understand. Winking at the end doesn’t make it any clearer.

I’ve been using the urge for the past 6 months. It’s fairly light and comfy and doesn’t get too hot. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it though; the liner isn’t removable and falls to bits pretty quick.

For a budget lid you can’t beat the 661’s for the odd ride here and there, they last ok and can be found at good prices. I’d go for a Kali if you use it a lot; cheaper and lighter than a troy lee but on a par for performance.

The contradictory advice on these threads always worries me a little as the OP has no way of knowing how good the person giving the advice actually is! Great to see you are already planning on getting some coaching, hopefully they will put right all us lot have made wrong

Go see Jedi. You’ll be flying in no time!

So amazing you haven’t bothered with the bmx since? You’ve failed the bmxer test. Sorry. there’s that arrogance again

I’d say arrogance was claiming there’s a test we have to pass to enjoy BMX.

Again, I’ve had MTB coaching and found it amazing. I went for a play on BMX, no formal coaching as such but learned a great deal from a guy who is a natural coach. You know the type; gives helpful advice and encouragement to anyone who wants it rather than judging if people are worthy of passing the BMXer test…

You can’t do something? The options are:

    a) give up
    b) pay someone to show you how, then give up
    c) have a go at it anyway. You never know, it might be fun learning (slighlty different from being taught).

You sir, appear to be a b) all day long.

I’d say I was more of a d) get invited for my first go on a BMX with a mate who happens to be a coach. Have a wicked time and learn a heap load of stuff.

You could start by reading what I typed and not rearranging the words and adding in some of your own. Where did I mention I had nothing to learn? Where did I say I was too arrogant to take input from someone who knows…

I did read what you said and disagreed with it. I found coaching amazing.

That is AWESOME! My lad can’t ride a bike due to his cerebral palsy but we just about get by on a tandem. I need to learn to do man stuff like weldying….

Mountain bike coaching is bad enough, but bmx coaching is a step too far. **** OFF bmx coaches.

Don’t quite know where to start with this. People who think they have nothing to learn are bad enough, but people too arrogant to take input from someone who knows what they are talking about is a step too far….

I’ve had coaching before I went to Tony so know the standard is varied to say the least. Don’t tar them all with the same brush though.

Jedi does BMX coaching, great fun! I’m still pants though, only because I haven’t given myself the time to practice what he showed me

Haha love that Danny Hart run. Always worth a watch before a muddy ride.

As above, Jedi ain’t too shabby. Following him over a 25 foot gap and him looking back to make eye contact is a bit unnerving…

+1 for Scott rockets. Neoprene so the Velcro doesn’t tear the pad apart. Hard shell is a must, everything else leaves you vulnerable to sharp rock strikes, including d30 jobbies. They fit rally nice and stay in place, plus have cutout over the knee cap so no friction burns.

The age thing never occurs to me, ditto responsibilities; that’s what credit cards are for.

If I’m tired or not riding well then I’ll have a break but I still feel like I’m learning and don’t want that to stop just because I’ve got a mortgage and a family, they completely get what I do and quite like it really. I’m a ‘rad dad’ innit? :P

I get scared of stuff but that’s half the buzz for me, i still can’t quite get my head round the fact that we are jumping gaps that you could park a truck in and riding ladders as high as a house. Make me laugh out loud every time I get something new. :D

that was self diagnosed though wasnt it hora?

if you try to protect everywhere that you might hurt while riding your bike then youll end up riding in an inflatable sumo suit. as said above, knees and hands often hit the ground first so it makes sense to protect them in some way if you are prone to a tumble or three

I don’t remember him ‘teaching’ us much stuff, but he did spend a lot of time encouraging me to unlearn a load of unnecessary stuff that I was doing.

maybe he taught you to just do the necessary stuff?

I’m with Rob Hilton. Bike are great but don’t inspire emotion on their own. Its the riding that gets me, much more attached to places i ride rather than the bike I’m on.

I’ve just joined a fairly large club (50+?) this year for the first time. We meet every sunday (and any other day possible) to engage in topical, non-offensive debate, not drink beer and not set fire to stuff. sometimes we ride bikes a bit.

You get @£200. You can chose to have a motability car with that money or not. I guess it’s about giving people the means to be as independent as possible without being restricted by the increased costs of day to day living wih a disability.

What qualifies is quite complex. Fox example I work with many children who have no physical disability but are awarded high rate mobility due to their behaviour as part of their condition. There is no way their parents could manage them on public transport so taxis or their own car are the only option if they want to get to school, go out and about etc.

    @mrmo,

High level mobility component of DLA is roughly £200 per month. You have to receive high rate to qualify for the motability scheme. What car you have dictates how much of this allowance per month you pay in to the scheme. Not every disabled persons family fit in to a micra :P

There seems to a lot of confusion over what DLA and ESA are. My 12 year old son receives DLA and has done since the age of 2. Obviously this has nothing to do with his ability to work! it is, in our circumstances, to help with any additional care, transport etc. that we need to provide.

It is made up of 2 payments; mobility and care. the mobility component can be used for a mobility car if you choose to do so. We have to re-apply regularly and give in-depth information about his daily life. the DLA then contact his school, pediatrician and other specialists to confirm the information we have provided.

DLA is a great help and having a reliable car that gets regular services etc is great peace of mind for when he needs to dash to hospital. However, I’d give it up in a heartbeat and everything I earn too in exchange for him being able to lead a life without all the difficulties his condition causes him.

If the benefit of something justifies or outweighs its cost and maintenance regime then I’ll give it a bash. I guess this probably applies to everyone and their own personal take on bikes though.

second the seat position. my personal preference (and yours may be different) would be to avoid compromising handling when standing which is how you should ride all the good bits anyway
