Mamadirt off here would be a good person to speak to, she made an art form of building little bikes that made everyone want a go!

I did this for my daughter cos she’s a shorty too. At the time merlin cycles were doing their own brand jump ht for about £75 in an 11″ frame. Because the geometry on dj bikes is based around a short travel fork, Low bb and 69 deg ish head angle it was perfect for keeping the bar height low enough for her to weight the front end, something she had struggled with on other frames.

So yeah, go for it. A really small Bfe might be a nice option too

Hell yes! Sweep the jumps and it rides like summer. Until the ice melts from repeated runs and it goes a little slidy….

Um yeah. Speaking of which…new frame coming today…

I had this with contis. Rode them for a couple of days with tubes then took them off and used washing up liquid. Worked a treat. Hot bath sounds worth a try too.

    Go and see Jedi

A year or more on and I’m still progressing to bigger and bigger stuff after hitting a plateau that lasted a few years

150mm bike is hardly ‘suffer up to bomb down’, the majority are specced as trail bikes and weigh in at we’ll under 30lbs. A long way removed from a mini DH bike.

Where do you see your riding going in the next few years? Big rides, natural xc type stuff, maybe some races? Or developing your jumping skills, maybe the alps, uplifts, snowdon, lakes etc?

I wish I thought ahead when buying bikes, learn from my mistakes!

Couldnt get down to Herts so just a local play on hemlock hill. There was a yoof in a track suit pulling crazy whips, often landing on his face but still going back for another go. Couple of guys in full Sam Hill/ Steve Peat replica gear who were bimbling round too.

I had a good session, hit the step-up on to the cliff a half dozen times and had a go at the new jumps that have sprung up over winter. My mate who is fairly new to mountain bikes hit the 18 foot step down double and loved it, proper pleased for him!

We had a dusting of snow last night but we’re heading back with a brush in an hour for another go! Have a good one all.

errm, isn’t the Magazine called “Singletrack”? Well I ride singletrack on my CX bike as well as my MTB’s so isn’t it well within the remit of the magazine? Actually it’s a lot more relevant to me than reviews of the latest 160mm travel machine which is pretty irrelevant for most UK riding.

160mm bikes are pretty relevant to all my uk riding, its all i own

i cancelled my subscription a few months back because i dont see any articles about what i like to ride that dont sound like ones ive read before

Scamper you’re right they do have servo wave, just had a look inside mine. Wonder if its the caliber design that feels different or if its all in my head?!

Just get it booked. If you want to improve its the logical step. You can’t put a price on skills, confidence and most importantly fun!

My recommendation, like so many others, would be Jedi. I’ve been to others but he clearly has a far greater understanding of the fundamental skills and how different folk achieve them than anyone I’ve met.

Deores are good but don’t have the servo of the xts. I’ve got a pair of both and it’s hard to tell the difference until it gets really steep and you need subtle modulation under heavy braking. The deores are fine at this but the xts are even better. Worth the extra £50 for a pair from rosebikes IMO

I showed you (and others) all the cheek in that vid. You’re the only one sharing it on a public forum. I’ve learned my lesson, shame you haven’t really.

You argument is a mix of “they did it first” and sticking your fingers In your ears and screaming. Not that ironic really, perhaps moronic was what you meant?

    slowrider

Hora you twonk. It’s fine to share cheeky trails but if you want them to last then you do this in moderation. Take folk on a ride and show them, or let folk find them on a map. Don’t broadcast them all over the net or they quickly become not so cheeky motorways lined with annoyed rangers/ countryside users. As a rule, cheek is midweek, preferably after dark.

It’s a bit like your ‘bully me please’ bike build threads, your need for attention overwhelms what little common sense you might have.

Rant over, see you on the Xmas ride we aren’t telling anyone about over the Internet yeah?

This one still confuses me. How does taking a dump make your bike lighter?

Best tyres I’ve used in the peaks IMO. Shame they are so pricey! Anyone seen a deal on the 2.4 tubeless ones?

That frame colour confirms it. You definitely push back.

Setup is certainly a massive factor! A lower guide is good in the rocky stuff though, particularly if you back pedals quarter or half turn (cornering etc) as that’s when you tend to lose the chain at the bottom, particularly if your chain line isn’t the best

    slowrider
    Free Member

I would’ve thought you’d want a full guide if you’re charging round the peaks Sam if you bounce your chain off with a mech the chances are you’ll do it with a top only guide.

E13 ones are definitely worth it if you’ve got the cash

My other bike is bolt through and that has one threaded dropout too which is what made me think it might work?

Cheers for the input though :)

Bit ethe bullet and go mavic crossmax. Either st or sx depending on your priorities. The mp3 replacement scheme is well worth it too.

+1 for the tubelss puncture kit.

ive patched the inside of tyres before, a hairdryer to tacky everything up helped it bond properly. i just used to take a spare tube to get me home.

however, since seeing jedi mend a tubeless puncture in the alps in the pissing rain in about 30 seconds with one of those kits I am a definite convert! he’d never used one before either so it could be even quicker with a bit of practice. I’ve not had to use it yet but its in the bag ready.
