they just need to start making small frames with long top tubes so you can chuck it about but still climb well. low bb, steep seat angle, slack head angle, longer tt to allow short stem and a maxle rear end would be nice though…

your stem is longer than your seat tube

ive been having a sneaky go at parkin clough all summer mid-week when ive been out on my own. gonna wait till ive got it all without dabs before i take my mates along. got it all in sections but had a couple of hairy tumbles just after that pic. if you follow the line that guys on its a smaller but more awkward drop and snags your bb pretty easy. if you get to the other side of those slabs then its a much bigger drop but with a straighter landing, its still a bit 'huck-slam-grabthebrakes!' but it works for me…sometimes…
i loves it, bit gutted it will soon be too wet to ride it…

they probably will put it up, they usually do after each round. i think the dvd is a sort of round up plus some extra footage. ill be buying s copy to keep freecaster on the air after having to watch the eurosport coverage yesterday cos i got in too late. bloody awful it was!

living up to your username there al! though i have to admit, it doesnt look half as much fun going that slow when you know how good it is to tear down there on the absolute limit

ive rescued the odd noob on cut gate, it lulls people in to going real quick then throws some hefty rocks at them. it probably doesnt help with the likes of MBR saying what great singletrack it is whilst failing to mention the remote and rocky aspect.

hope he is ok, though its damn selfish of him to crash when bikers are passing, makes them feel obliged and responsible to help!

the last bit would only take 10 mins to walk at most so should still be quickest. nice excuse to walk after that climb too!

the least cheeky of the options and imo the most rideable is best done if you are coming down the hagg farm descent first, though you can access it by going over the ladybower dam.

if you come down hagg farm, cross the snake pass and carry on down to the bottom. follow the trail over the bridge and round to the left and it starts to climb up to the bottom of the beast. at the right hairpin, go left through the gate which drops you down to the path that runs around the edge of the res. theres a bit of logging going on here but the guys are all friendly and will let you by without any hassle. follow the trail until you see a steep, straight trail heading up as the res path carrys on round. this is a bit of a slog but brings you out just down a bit from where you would be joining win hill the way you come up. take a right to hope cross.

like i said, you can access it from the dam but its a bit of a trek round the res, possibly still quicker than the road way though.

sorry i cant give you any features to look out for, i just know where it is! its not too hard to spot though. i think it may be a footpath but ive passed foresty people and rangers on my way up and they have just said hello so it may be unofficially allowed?

the other options as stated above are parkin clough and other similarly awkward climbs.

+1 for cleaning it all. got it first time on flatties, went back a couple of days later on spds and found it harder. went back again on flats and got it all, then had a play making up my own lines. il ike the chute at the end, is it the ridge or something? dead easy but looks ridiculous when you first see it.

which bit exactly round the back of mam?

my own personal solution to this situation is to trash as many Peak footpaths as possible with wanton skidz so the budget gets spent on repairing them.

    keep the Peak lumpy!

my understanding (which ill admit is limited) is that there are two offences; trespass or trespass with intent (or something like that). one is accidental and they would have trouble saying anything more than 'dont do it again', the other is a deliberate act and means there is a possibility of charge, fine etc.

so basically, if stopped by a ranger or whoever, say you thought you were on a bridleway and tell them you dont have a map!

a lot of people with spds hop by pulling up on bars and feet at the same time. its a lot easier on flats to pull the bars up first then push them out and away from you, scooping the pedals as you do so. once you get the hang of these you will be able to work on getting the back up quicker for those situations where you need to do so, but TBH i find getting the front up first much more useful, hoik it roughly to the height you need and then just bring the back up to match. works well when jumping stuff at speed too.

    enjoy practising!

winston lee is crackin if you get mates to hold the gates. the top it is a bit puddly but no big deal. i think i just did lockerbrook to death a few years back.

not bad ROFL, id go down the beast rather than potato alley though. id also skip the loop down to fairholmes cos i dont rate that descent much and instead id go right at bottom of the beast, round the res, over the dam, up to winston lee tor, down to fairholmes, then pick up your loop again. id be tempted to add a loop up and down win hill on my way round the res but that might get a bit cheeky

tyres are the bane of my life! i cant run any single plys ive tried (so far) without tearing them as soon as i start enjoying myself. dual plys are so heavy it makes me cry. havent tried any ust ones yet, quite like the look of geax dhea's, or maybe schwalbe fat alberts. anyone know how tough either of these are?

kyle straits are a lot comfier than veggies, better protection too. as above, use youth sizes maybe?

my personal view on knee pads is that if it doesnt have a hard plastic cup then its not really that good at protecting you. even at slower speeds an awkward fall on to rocks could do you some damage. i use tomcats for this very reason and have actually found them to be comfier all day that the kyle straits, seems that the plastic cup on the knee holds them just off my kneecap so stops them chafing.

sounds like flooks! they arent the worst forks in the world to tinker with though, give tf a ring and talk to them about what needs doing, see how comfortable you feel about it. i did this when i needed to replace my negative air chamber as i broke the valve off on a rock and they were great. i wouldnt have minded sending it to them normally but id only had them pushed 2 weeks prior! parts arent cheap but what is right now?!

flows. still lightish, great width = good tire shape and plenty tough for the riding you describe. you can also get them as one of hope 'hoops' options which saves a few quid. winstanleys had the best price last time i looked but that was a month or so ago.
