red looks alrigh wih green if you use some whie too. green and whie without the red looks better IMO, think CG.

wellgos are good, i got a pair with ti axles of ebay for fifty quid, the standard ones are half that.

i dont get cold feet, my mates who ride spd's do. i wonder if its the cleat and the subsequent holes? they said the coldness sometimes starts there.

i reckon as you are a reasonably big fella you ought to consider ditching some stem spacers and running a wider bar; it would balance your position on the bike better, letting you put some weight on the front wheel when you need to. slack angled, long forked, high handlebar-ed bikes are all well and good down fast, straight stuff but try carving a turn over loose or bumpy ground and you will will see why Dhers try and get the front end as low as they can (within reason).

nice bike, i run my brakes like yours too. those e13's are twice the weight of most other bash rings though. flatboys are brillant pedals but you can get some almost as good at half the weight. you could save a pound just changing those two parts! its your build though…

(say you have your e13 for bashing through rock gardens, it sounds more 'core)

i tried running 36's on my 4x a while back. its fun on fast open rough stuff but i found the pike suited the bike so much better, it just felt a bit too high at the front, slightly clumsy and wandery in steeper, trickier stuff. i tried it primarily to to raise the bb a little rather than add travel or slacken the already slack angles out and it really didnt make that much difference, it just didnt feel as balanced as before. id see if you cant try some out before you splurge any cash.

they arent bad, especially at that money. I used to have two pairs, the pair with big rotors were great initially, didnt fade even in the alps, aftet a year they did die a bit of a death, the pistons broke in to small pieces, maybe cooked? The other pair were fine, the adjusters kept winding out but a touch of loctite sorted that. The pads can rattle a bit and i ripped a pair out once but at that price id take a punt.

silver looks nice with white, could get a silver thomson post and stem too. not too 'flashy' then…

if i can distract you from your colour debate, how does the head angle thing work on a 29er? i mean, the trail orientated ones seem to run @71, where a normal wheel bike would have say 67/68. do they feel at all steep at speed compared to a trail bike with normal wheels?

s'alright that. i do think those kind of colour schemes suit dj/bmx bikes better though.

a route that would normally take you an hour will be plenty for a newbie at this time of year. as tempting as it might be to show them the best bits, keep it easy to the point of slightly boring, only include technical stuff that has a chicken route.

i took my daughters bf out recently and he was dead game but had very little experience. its easy to under estimate how hard and scary stuff looks for newbies. he had a great time just riding forest trails and flowy singlerack; stuff like roots, drops and switchbacks were real obstacles to him.

me neither, i meant the rotors tbh

stainless steel can still rust if not looked after. it just stains less.

use the automotive nitromors, not the household one, cant remember the exact names of either but one is definitely stronger. as said before, lay it on thick, then tape it in an airtight bag and put it somewhere warm. hope that helps.

i was looking at one of those XX cassettes now i run a single ring up front, 36t top cog would definitely mean id never need a granny ring again. saw the price of 270 justfor the cassette and didnt even bother looking at the shifter price!

your bike looks nice and fast fella, enjoy!

ah i didnt realise there were issues with adding to it, my friendly lbs has always sorted it for me and hinted that they probably shouldnt but i was too busy drooling over new bikes to pay attention.

why stick to the limit? just see it as £400 quid off a new bike/frame, i got an orange 5 frame and my wife got a rocky ridge. she uses it lots (ahem)

funnily enough they are a lot like their socks in terms of how they work. they are obviously chunkier than noermal mitts but not as massive as full on winter gloves. since ive had mine i havent used my proper winter gloves and that includes some peaks rides in the snow and ice last year. i do tend to 'run hot' (ooeer) though so dont necessarily rely on me to say they will be warm enough. i hate riding in anything thicker than normal gloves but these arent so bad.

using the same wheels just with adaptors ive tried qr15 and maxle/ 20mm fox. there is a definite difference when giving them a beasting but i suspect its not just the axles but the whole fork that is built for more heavy duty purposes.
