the saint stuff i had off them recently was def oem, no problem with that and it saved me a fortune. Id have a problem with it if they sent me the old version though!

yes thats right. did you check your cranks were sitting right up against the bb?

    slowrider
    Free Member

that in itself shouldnt be enough to make the crank arm fall off. Id check if the guide was stopping you push the cranks on far enough, depending on your cranks the inner ring tabs can be quite proud so make contact with the back plate

lol i removed that but too late, i only mean in terms of the bunch of dicks we seem to have devolved in to

i know he has a bargain, i dont dispute its a good deal or a good bike. im just saying that i would put it on a frame that i really wanted and feel smug about the deal i got. im not saying he should do the same, just confessing my own inner bike tart. id probably choose an ibis tranny i reckon, with the build from the 1300 quid fs one. i know you pay more for the fs but you get the bolt thru reba.

i wonder what a 2nd hand 'new' boardman frame would fetch?

id get it on c2w too, thats another 400 quid off!

they do look good, dont they?

as a general rule though, dont be blinded by the spec cos nice geo and ok kit will always be better than shonky geo and great kit. my mate got a deal on a felt which was clearly too steep in the head angle and tall in the bb for what he was using it for but it had full xt at the price range of slx. needless to say he regrets it now.

from what ive seen/heard of those boardmans you have nothing to worry about though. id be tempted to buy one, sell the frame and put the kit on something nice though, it would be a great bargain then

the more pics and vids to share after the better i reckon

a winch to pull me up the climbs would be nice

i just sold a marin rocky ridge frame but id heartily recommend one. it felt almost identical geo wise to my old chameleon but had a bit more give at the back and no faffy ebb/slidey dropout.

i love my sovereign, with 130/140 fork it has near perfect trail geo IMO, 68 h/a, decent reach etc but is built to handle far more. its not the lightest frame though so could well be overkill really.

im getting a lift from mister p, still cant decide which bike though.

out of interest, the first climb; do you go up the road to just past the crest fo the hill or do you take the bridleway thats eroded to f***? not bothered, just nosy!

ive bust a few shimanos cynic-al, plus a ringle and a chris king, and yes a hope too, like the one above only three spokes instead of one. hope were the only ones i had any warranty luck with, they had it back to me fully built up and ready to go in 3 days.

i dont expect stuff to last forever, i break stuff all the time. its such a bonus to not have to pay for replacements though!

psychle thats mint. im not at all bothered by retro stuff but that is beautiful.

how much time and effort did it take to source the parts or did you buy it as a whole?

tyres, wheels, forks would be high on my list. you can get wicked deals on hope hoops if you look at winstanleys website. go for the standard option with stans rims and get a pair for £235. these will let you run tubeless with standard tyres which saves weight too. some great deals around on forks too, look at the revelations on the on one site, rebas on merlin i think it was, plus some good stuff on ebay at the moment too.

then sort yourself a nice cockpit out once you have an idea if theres anything you want to change about it, same with seat and post, then groupset as it wears out/deals come up

    jobs a good'un

its a large, full build weighs 30lbs ish, frame is around 6lbs i think?

the frame is £595 from crc, could only guess at the cost of thr build because ive funded it by selling stuff. prob in the region of 2k?

ive ridden a couple of times this year, my riding has never recovered from swine flu last october; took me two weeks to feel fit again, then got a chest infection but rode anyway which screwed me over bigtime. took a rest over xmas, had a couple of rides which felt ok then had appendicitis mid jan and am at the tail end of recovery, looking to join the peaks pootle this weekend.

i hate it, never been off the bike this much before. i love riding in mud!
