    differences? where to start…

whilst both are designed for a similar purpose they achieve it quite differently. for me the chameleon would be worth the extra because ive never got on with the on ones ive tried and i loved my cham. horses for courses though…

if you are thinking chameleon then cove stiffee is its nearest competitor really. id look at the marin rocky ridge personally, i had one and if anything i thought it was a better ride than the cham; slightly more give in the rear and no faffy dropout/bb design.

if you are leaning towards the on one then as said above the ragley would be worht a look. dialled bikes prince albert or even the alpine if you want something tougher still. then you move up to looking at stuff like cotics and whatnot. the genesis steel hardtails look good too.

we had the same trouble on the stw peaks pootle yesterday. at times it was just brutal, blew a few people off their bikes on the old man tor road too (there's no polite way to phrase that is there lol)

good effort chris, not an easy one to film with just one static camera, must sort my helmet cam out for the next ride so we can combine footage.

i certainly wouldnt say i was rad to the max but was a regular chain dropper down rocky stuff around the peaks. i was running double and bash and usually dropped it down to either granny or on to the bb. tried one fo those bottom roller things but it didnt really make much difference so now run a full chain guide. never drops and stops my bike sounding like a bag of spanners too so im happy.

i wonder why it happens on some and not others though? i always thought it was cos im quite clumsy, especially at speed but maybe its to do with chain growth etc? but that wouldnt explain it on my hardtail…

oh well, maybe i am rad to the max. if so im disappointed, i thought it would feel, well, radder. 8O

mines probably a higher spec but not perfect condition. its well maintained and all, just nearly a year old.

did think about splitting, got someone interested in the whole bike though which would be nice and easy.

    thanks

i like bestwood for a night ride, just about the ride time to fit in before my lights run out, taking in the 5 best descents. theres also a cheeky little gulley down the side of the railway bridge that drops off the old railway trail down to the road. not sure how else to describe it, it pops out near that little road that dead ends at the tram/railway crossing.

ah wicked, a few bits i dont know.

had to re-fit the dual ply back tyre again, bloody tubeless pinch flats!

ive built a few bits in annesley; a skinny little trail that switchbacks and drop-offs its way down a bank, a ladder drop off to sketchy roooty landing and concreted the skinny bridge in over the bog of doom.

    your welcome lol

hemlock is fun and sees an influx of 'you uni types' (becky) but is really only a playground, not a ride.

bestwood is the easiest to find some fun stuff and make it in to a ride, i link it up with annesley, moorgreen and plenty of cheeky bits to keep the interest up. its never going to be the peaks though, just a razz when the drive isnt worth it.

i used to ride local almost all the time, you can make so many variations on the rides out towards mansfield cos theres endless trails in loads of little woods. i just got a bit bored of it not being scary. good for fitness though.

back on the tubeless subject, its still worth running dual plys imo; i regularly pinch flat single ply maxxis at 30psi run tubeless, same with the lust versions. i ride a 5 and a sovereign wihich whilst great bikes, may not reach the same sped in the hectic rocky stuff as that beast of yours.

dual ply big bettys are good, perhaps one of those on the back to avoid pinch plafs and something big and single ply up front?

ditch the spacers, you will want to get some wieght over the front to muscle it about a bit.

    it looks great fun, congrats!

depending on what you are using, probably nearly a pound. i took off an xt shifter, cable, xt front mech, xtr granny and straitline bash and that all weighed @ 450g. i think those mrp things are about 60g.
