yeah, its the blackbox you want, not the motion control (though motion contol is fine). i heard there was a damper upgrade available this year though maybe im getting confused with the new lyrik dh?

the v8's/v12's/wellgo copies are pretty good. personally i prefer a bigger pedal but maybe thats cos ive got biggish feet. the shape of the straitlines is nice but the bushings are naff in my experience, though others will say different. the easton flatboys as mentioned above are great. pretty meaty and heavy but really solid feeling unerfoot. my absolute first choice would be burgtec penthouse flats though. yes they are pricey, heavy and there are prettier pedals out there but they are such a great shape, really confidnce inspiring and are easy to service when you eventually need to. a big initial outlay but a worthwhile invstment imo.

pretty 'ardcore', the only concession to saving a bit of weight being the single ply front tyre.

coil lyriks i reckon, push upgrade later if you feel the need but the mission control is pretty good imo.

having seen you ride though hora, some sids would be fine…

i like the sound your tyres make on really really dry heathery moorland singletrack, the ground sounds almost hollow. small block 8 skids sound wicked too, they proper scream!

smell has to be burning discs, as above

i dont meen to be an ar$e, but…

isnt the whole idea of a new bike thread to show off your new toy and get some ribbing, some 'nice bike' comments and give us some 'want one' ideas?

and isnt the idea of a just ordered a new bike thread to show pics or tell people about what you have ordered but cant wait to tell everyone?

and isnt it incredibly arrogant to assume that people will be so interested and excited about your recent order that they will play 'guess the bike' all night?

either tell what it is or dont start a thread.

    i demand a witch hunt.

you cant beat the hope hoops for value, especially if you can get your lbs to price match winstanleys. any of those rims will be good. i personally like the stans but mavics are ace too, as is tubeless.

shouldnt think the snow will last long this late in the year, its pretty rocky up there too so doesnt really get muddy until you are pretty much all the way down.

at least thats what im hoping, got plans to go in 2 weeks!

which bit of the rangers path do people struggle with? is it the bit where it narrows in to a gulley and the slabs are at awkward angles? thats the only hard bit i can think of and with a bit of sessioning its not bad at all.

where the noise? ive always managed to get it runnnig alright with a bit of patience. fiddle with mech height and angle, limit screw and cable tension and you will get there!

fork juice is good, you can actually feel it reducing the stiction on new forks too. dont jet wash/ hose the seals either!

go demo some stuff in your price range. if you like it more than your current bike then give it some serious thought. after 4 years you have definitely got your moneys worth!

just sounds like you need to add a little tension to the cable, going 1×9 shouldnt affect your shifting in that way. the only problem i can see from 1×9 isi f you cant get a good chain line so it rubs the guide at the top or bottom of the range.

i reckon it makes a difference if you ride flats or spd's too. try spinning at 80/90 on flatties and your feet will be all over the shop wont they?

ive never ridden the black box stuff but i like the motion control system. i had set of old pikes pushed a while back and liked the difference it made but it only really came in to its own on proper rough stuff and at decent speeds. you need to be honest with yourself and think if you need these upgrades IMO, if you are a smooth rider or dont see ragging it downhill as your forte then maybe the cash is better spent elsewhere? if thrashing it is what you are all about then its probably money well spent. i like to give it some on the downs and the 2010 revs ive got are flawless and thats with the standard motion control. they dont seem to spike like my old pikes used to or maybe im just running them set up different? i dunno!

can i just skip the foreplay and go straight to willy waving?

alpine 160 w/ccdb, coil lyrics or van 36 rc2's, full saint, hope pro2's on stans flows, 2.4 tires dual ply rear, burgtec pedals and bars, 50mm thomson stem, i beam seat and post, e13 lg1+.

just cos ive got to ride it all day doesnt mean im going to take it easy on the downs! light and fast is all very good but it really frustrates me having to back off cos i might break stuff.

i think its a combination of factors; bb height, wheelbase, head angle, stem length, handlebar height etc.

what zokes said, its easy to miss on the way past with a bit of speed, its not too far to walk abck up from the switchbacks and its easier to spot at slow speed (duh).

rangers gets my vote any day, give yourself time to session anything you dont clean first go, its over before you know it otherwise.

heading there in 3 weeks myself, cant wait!
