brentstyle, give free flow bikes a ring, they sorted me out with an amazing price on a 2010 supreme

a superlight really isnt my my kind of bike, too steep, light and short travel. having ridden one however i couldnt recommend one highly enough if its a suitable bike for what you do. absolutely brilliant handling and so much fast fun, made me feel like a singletrack god!

ive never tried a lapierre so couldnt comment on that one

i think its a hard bike to manual too, probably long stays and quite a low bike maybe?

2.35 maxxis fit ok, nowt bigger though really

its 7wt, i always stick to what they recommend cos i dont know enough to experiment. i found it hard to find 7wt so mixed 5wt and 10wt at a ratio of 3:2 and gave it good shake.

jedi's looks like a transition bottlerocket

ill have to take some pics of the transition dirtbag ive just built up for my brother; £360 fame and forks, £50 shock, then swapsies with parts from his old bkes and various donor bikes from friends and family. broke even once we sold what was left of his old bike too.

have you taken the cranks off and had a feel of the bearings? if you can feel it there then its probably worth replacing. if not then just nip it up. i used to be a bit blase about bb bearings but after my brothers seized and tore his threads in his frame i dont take any chances!

run your ardents below 30 and they will be alright, better on the back than front.

7 stanes trails tear schwalbes to bits IME others seem fine though. id go for dual ply minion f on the back, single ply 40a on the front if you are just freeriding, switch to a single ply if xc ing too.

do snowdon rangers instead. if you were planning on doing both do snowdon rangers twice!

i ran ardent 2.4's front and rear. ditched the rear and went to dual ply cos i pinch loads. not a problem with the ardent,it happens with all single plys. ditched the front too cos it washes out a little to easy. if i was aftr a single ply rear id consider one but not for the front if you are giving it some.

its one of those cheap ebay ones. i heard you can remove the timestamp but dont know how. that was my second go with windows movie maker and im still getting to grips with it. its good fun though, hopefully it wont take over too much of my riding time!

    alpin,

i did one today for my digi cam using velcro and some zip ties and the results werent bad. i think i move about waaaaay too much for a POV cam though

i got windows movie maker free on my lappy so use that. ive found helmet cams far too shaky for rocky7 riding so just put cameras in trees or get someone else to hold them!

definitely lyriks imo, van36 are brill but the u turn is useful and the adjustability and performance is spot on. some good deals out there too, freeborn were doing them at 500 last time i looked

zaskar thats hardly freeride, sounds like xc with teeth to me, learn to ride with a bit of finesse (if you dont already) and you will be fine. i cant do finesse so i overbike myself.

the climb isnt that bad, as long as its not a foul day! dont bust a lung cos you want your energy for the downhill. have a quick stop at the halfway cafe, a quick stop under the railway just after the first steep bit, then you only have about 20 minutes til the rangers turn-off. 2 hours is pretty comfortable.

its got a few cheeky rock gardens with sharp pointy bits but you can see them coming and get your game face on. its definitely not for a newbie or someone who just rides trail centres but its not got any 'do or die' moves. i rode it with my old man earlier this year and he got off for a couple of rock gardens and didnt do the awkward drop offs. as you get lower down its kind of like riding in a gulley and its not that fast so plenty of time to size stuff up and decide whether to give it a go. i love it!

i took one of those cheapo ebay muvi copies with me too. i had the angle all wrong though so all i filmed was my feet. maybe next time…

bintangman, i like that camera position, how'd you do that?

    geetee, parkin clough

ampthill, the steepness is the main challenge. nothing too massive, just silly steep in places.
