How much is the Shan no.5? That looks nice

I had this issue with my new bike. Completely broke the collar recently. My local bike shop went through their ‘every axle we’ve ever taken out of a frame’ box and surprisingly few fitted, though even with a read tap lining up the various axles it was hard to tell them apart. In short, be careful what you try to fit!

A saint 150mm fit my threads lovely so I used that with a spacer while I ordered the newest maxle; the ultimate. This ain’t cheap but it is a far superior design; no collar or twisty lever at all. Pretty much like a ‘proper’ QR, really can’t see how it’s going to fail now

    Jedi, aka Tony @ ukbikeskills.

He’s not the cheapest but he is the best. Guaranteed to progress your riding in a chilled out, confidence boosting way no matter what level you are at.

If you’re put off by the cost then book yourself on to a public day, you’ll still learn a huge amount

Just ask around, you’ll see what I mean

Sounds pretty decent price! They seem to be £250 new with the standard remote

Got mine from wiggle for £60. Seems to have gone back to £110 now

That’s reassuring, maybe I need to stop overthinking it and just use it as normal

Hope you like it bud. I just went for a medium kona process despite trends saying I should ride a large. Fits like a glove

I never even knew bar rotation was a fix for pressure points, been riding for decades and just got on with it. May try this now…

Seat angle may steepen a tiny bit but the extra length in the fork may just cancel that out

Whilst it is new I’m blaming user error. I’ve either lined it up badly or got some grit in there I reckon. Save my warranty karma for when I actually need it! I’ll check it out hit the reverse components one, like idea of a bolt up jobby

Good call, think I’ve got some of them in the shed

There’s not enough axle sticking out to get any purchase. Think I’ll take it to a shop before I resort to hitting it with something.

What did you replace yours with?

Not that I can see. That would be a good idea though. Take note rockshox!

I plumped for a kona process 153 dl. Really like it

I understand the pain of your wait joe, ordered my new bike last Friday for an early mid week delivery. Courier damaged it in transit and had to take it back to the shop. Still got it turned around to arrived yesterday though, winner!

I would add kona process 134 and Devinci whatever their 130mm travel one is. Bargains on last years models to be found on both. Free on had the Devinci and triton had the kona I think.

I reckon you’ll be fine on a medium looking at the geo. I’m 5’11” and I’d happily go for a medium. ‘Chuckable’ has fallen out of fashion now all enduro bikes have to be stable at warp speed. I just go down a size and enjoy the extra standover for the reach I know suits me

Just pushed the button on a 2016 process 153 dl. Can’t wait!

That stumpy is a 3.6k bike, better value than a jeffsy as long as the size is right

Yeah that’s top of my list right now joe. Cotic have never floated my boat and whilst I loved my five, the noise from an orange still puts me off!

Flaps, what size is your cube and how good is it? On my list of potential bikes

Definitely bomb proof, of all the bikes I’ve owned that’s one of the few that neither me nor anyone I’ve known have broken. There were dozens of them in our riding group.

Surprisingly good all-rounder if you’ve got the legs too. Rear suss ain’t the most sophisticated but it does the job. I’ve seen them fitted with dual crowns but personally think 160mm is where they are best. If you can get a cheap slackset it would be worth messing about with. Enjoy!

    Great work singletrack!

Salsa looks like it’s £3k for the frame? That’s my max budget for the whole bike.

Radon looks like you get a lot of bike for the money, thouh I’d need to tweak some bits n bobs (no big deal)

Banshee spitfire is a good call! I had a rune and loved it, some old stock at good prices available

Devinci Troy looks good! Not a bad spec either considering the carbon frame

Commercial v4 looks great (apart from the colour scheme). I think the 4.2 enduro gnarpoon is going to be overkill for the riding I’m likely to do and make me miss the riding it’s designed for!

Thanks all, keep em coming if you think of any others

Yeah, 2550. Not sure if I’d be medium or large though. On paper I’m probably just a large for most makes of bike, but every time I’ve had a page it’s felt too big and mediums have always worked for me

Not bad sambob, found it for a bit less than that though

Chilled, that tapered clamp might mean you can run a dropper without over tightening it?

I had a gravity dropper ages ago and ran it in a frame that everything seemed to slip around in. I tightened it proper tight and it was fine. Really really agricultural by current standards though.

Some interesting experiences, really appreciate the feedback.

The bike I’m looking at is last years Scott genius 710 plus. Reviewed last year in single track and can now get it for about half price.

Just not sure about whether I’m understanding the purpose of 27.5+; is it fat-lite or (I’m hoping) the evolution of when I used to run big volume dh tyres on my screen bike to avoid pinch flats in the rough stuff? I really just want a fun mid-travel trail bike that can be thrown around and survive as my riding style has always been more ‘charge’ than ‘finesse’.
