Chicken curry or chicken and spinach curry. Mmm.

I thought it was enjoyable, enthusiastic and exciting. It matched the sport. On the contrary, much of the commentary on other sports is turgid and boring. Pointless even. The sliding sports – “My Gunness” the commentary is dreadful. Skiing – despite Graham Bell’s stirling efforts once the race starts the commentary is the customary bland dross. Oh and as mentioned by earlier posters, the less said about Hugh Porter the better.

Come on Beeb, lets get rid of some of the old guard and bring in some of the young enthusiastic knowledgable sportsmen and women who understand what they are commenting on.

Have a read about what Gordon Pirie’s view was on training shoes and running technique.

More realistically, first hand evidence appeared 43/44 with the Auschwitz Protocols written by escaped prisoners. Before then there’s reason to believe intelligence was that this was going on but there was little hard evidence.

Indeed. The “final solution” as a policy wasn’t announced until late 43. Had the allies known earlier you can bet your life it would have been used as propaganda. If the German public had known, the allies would have known.

Snowboarding was the real winner today, great to see the level of acceptance that it has received.

Yes I agree. They put on a great show. Beat the hell out of figure skating.

Tbh the Germans were lucky. The Russians were pissed off. It could have been much much worse for the scum.

Well actually it was unlucky for many German civilians. My German auntie was raped by Russian soldiers in Berlin.

But back to the original post. I think “indifference” is a reasonable summation. I just wrote out a great deal of blurb based on my meagre knowledge of the situation from a mother who lived close to Belsen at the time and a father who was part of the occupying forces in the area after the war. Then I deleted it. It’s my personal knowledge based on what I have been told and things I was taken to see as a child. It isn’t definitive.

Do mogul skiers have long careers?? Looks hard on the knees to me

Well apparently Aiko Uemura was competing in her 5th consecutive Winter Olympics – and just missing a medal AGAIN.

Absolutely glued to the hd slow mo slope style. As an old skier who tries not to get more than foot of air, this is awesome!

As an old skier who never rated snowboarding… I agree!! Brilliant stuff, I loved it.

Of course once upon a time I didn’t fancy mountain biking either. Those baggy shorts and stuff.

+1 for sunglasses. Not just for lunch. I’ve always worn them rather than googles unless conditions are really horrible. I.e. snowing

But do not be intimidated into speeding up just because somebody is right on your back bumper. Instead, create an additional stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front so that you when you do brake, you can do so smoothly.

    Erm. How?

A mate of mine in the pub was rocking around on the barstool, slurring quite a lot then came out with “I can’t keep my equilib… equili… equi… balance”. Then fell off.

    Sounds like it’s not detected.

Shouldn’t be necessary but… try connecting the projector, switch it on, reboot Macbook.

Also, test with any old VGA monitor.

“Bongo” I like to think I am down with the urban slang, but thats a new one on me. I shall use it liberally if thats ok (the word not the material)

New one on me too. At first I wondered what was wrong with watching drum solos.

This is probably because to learn that way you need a load of extra equipment to keep changing ski lenght which is expensive

I would be inclined to agree.

and it produces skiiers who can “get down” steeper pistes but can’t actually ski so are f’ed once the conditions aren’t perfect and can ski at speed but not in control.

I would be inclined to disagree. Certainly the group I learned with skied in control. Sideslipping was also heavily integrated into the course with the result that most of us could get down reasonable terrain slowly and safely even though at that stage we hadn’t learned to snowplough or stem. I didn’t see anyone abandon skiing in favour of taking off the skis and walking down which I thought was a good sign.

It may well be that modern compacts are easier to come to grips with without the need to be “eased” into them with shorter ones.

I don’t know if any resorts still offer it but I learned to ski donkeys years back by the “Ski Evolutif” method (or graduated length or direct parallel)in Les Arcs. You start on 1m skis then increase every two days (to 1.35m and then 1.6m) doing parallel turns from the start.

I do agree though with an earlier post that snow plough (and stem turns) are valuable techniques in certaim circumstances but they are pretty easy to add in afterwards.

I never fancied snowboarding, largely because I don’t like trousers which look as though you’ve pooed yourself.

But who is doing the annoying? The guy driving along on the speed limit or the one on his back bumper?

I apply the trick (said above) of slowing down, gradually decreasing 30..28..25…20……….

    My approach too.

    From the article
“They claim this shows that text in the Bible was compiled long after the events described in it…”

You mean that Adam and Eve stuff isn’t a contemporary account? I’m shocked. I felt sure they kept diaries.

Yes I had a summer job in a factory when I was at school. Daily fry ups included.

Years later working as a resident engineer on a project at a colliery (remember those?), I had breakfast every day in the pit canteen. Brilliant and I particularly liked the little cakes of yesterday’s mash potato fried up.

There was always Hendo’s on the table when I was in digs in Sheffield. Brilliant on meat n tatie pie.

At home it was this one (courtesy of German mum). Great in soups:

I have both in the cupboard – with the Maldon Salt of course.

Supermarkets throw away food because customers won’t buy the last item on the shelf.

That doesn’t account for 40% of bagged salad being thrown out (unless there were only 2 bags on the shelf to start with and then the maths don’t quite add up).

I agree with your overall point though – a lot of arguing from ignorance on the religion threads. It’s almost like people who don’t speak French discussing Balzac in French.

Ah so, Atheists can’t discuss religion because we know nothing about it?
Hmm, perhaps the OP was right.
