Mrs. SOM just suggested a new iron or vacuum cleaner might do the trick. Bit pricey though eh?

    From the Beeb:
“A man called Vladimir told Reuters news agency he was a volunteer helping the group there, though he said he did not know where they came from.

“I’m with the People’s Militia of Crimea. We’re simple people, volunteers,” he said”.

Apparently he also wants to be known as Loretta and have babies.

slowoldman : That should’ve been my way of thinking but my caution and fiscal wariness got the better of me – Damn my Scottish upbringing.

Well I figured if I didn’t Mrs. SOM would demand mine.

I thought it was silly money for a bike bell. So I ordered two!

So I was sitting in a climbing hut years ago perusing a dog eared copy of “Baden Powell’ from the bookshelves. I read out loud the warning to young boys concerning the dangers of “troubling ones-self with one’s hand”. A voice from across the room said “it’s no trouble”.

I had shockingly painful knees some years ago. Doc couldn’t figure it out, sent me to a consultant who X-rayed and couldn’t see anything wrong. Physio had a quick tweak and said “skier are you?”. Apparently knackered cruciate ligaments.

    See a physio.

POD are very good sacs but aimed really at climbing rather than hillwalking/backpacking. I have several (!!) Arcteryx sacs (all secondhand or sale items) which are magnificent but expensive. Mrs. SOM has an Osprey which is a lovely sac – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend one. Oh you might have a look at Deuter too.

My standard ringtone is a Fender Telecaster through a ’57 Bassman. That grabs the attention and so far I haven’t heard anyone else use it.

Wonder how quick your brain would fry if we were exposed to the full depth of the matter that surrounds and binds us.

As Slartibartfarst said when entering hyperspace “it scares the willies out of me”.

Like Zed we had several wildly varying quotes to take down 3 large willows and lop a couple of other trees. We got them done by a very professional outfit for £400ish. They chipped the lot and left us a wagon load of mulch. It would have been extra to have the stumps ground down but we advised not to bother. Providing they are cut very low they will die off. They have.

I haven’t read the actual article but from the OP’s post it seems Friedman said “if you put the government in charge,,,” not “if you put the socialist government in charge…”

Let’s face it, if you want a country run badly, put politicians in charge.
