The road is where the big bucks and superstardom is.

Maybe he’s put away a few quid to allow him to be what he says he really is  – a mountain biker who does a bit of road riding.

He’s always gonna be more of a one-day, classics and possibly week-long stage race rider though eh?

    I agree.

As for Ineos they definitely seem to have lost the plot. I suspect that Jim, having got into football and yachting, has fallen out of love with cycling.

Also are you looking at Europe or possibly travelling further afield?

Well I’ve used wooden and plastic chopping boards at home and on camp sites, it would never have occurred to me to wash either between different veggies or salads. I have also used plastic washing up bowls, washed crockery and not rinsed it before drying with a tea towel (things which a while ago caused massive controversy on STW). In 70 years I can’t recall a single occurrence of food poisoning. Maybe it’s because I used to play in the muck and mud

Chipping Camden is a nice spot. The Volunteer Inn is a nice pub with the bonus of a very good semi detached Indian restaurant. If you can do a bit of driving around The Falkland Arms at Great Tew is a must as is The Fleece at Bretforton.

System 1 thinkers – fast, instinctive and emotional. See this article.

Also feeds into things like doping conspiracy in sport, i.e. “Pogacar wins everything so he must be doping, it’s obvious”.

    Five Days One Summer.

Though the DVD is still available, I don’t recall it ever being on telly.

    Great climbing footage.

FWIW, I tend to rely on LTHR for working out my HR zones for running.

I use FTHR for cycling. See this British Cycling page for details on how to do it.

    Or cider.

Hung parliament, Labour and lib dems coalition….

Well here’s hoping the LDs go with the right partner next time they are in that position. At the last debacle I was yelling at the telly “no you fools don’t go with THEM”.

anyonelse join the conservative party just to get a vote on leadership?

If I did I’d probably end up spoiling my paper so it’s pointelss.

I’ve used HRV4Training for years and see very little correlation between exercise, sleep, resting HR and HRV. I keep wondering why I continue using it. It presumably relates more to athletes than to slow old men.

I looked at the title and thought “this should be interesting”. Turned out much as I expected. I’ve not been out that way for many, many years (I went to grammar school in Worksop) and it doesn’t sound like it’s changed much.

Clumber Park is worth a visit (mine were enforced on school cross country runs so my memories are mixed). Creswell Crags is worth a look for archeology and in the village itself is the “Model Village”. No not a miniature, but an idea of what decent social housing could be.

Of course if the area has any fame to speak of, it’s coal mining. I haven’t visited either (since I grew up in a pit village anyway) but the mining museum in Mansfield or Pleasley Pit visitor centre could be worth a trip. Especially topical as the UK has just closed it’s last coal fired power station.

I’ve got loads of isopropyl alcohol in the garage. I just googled it out of curiosity and it appears to be a widely used method for dissolving ear wax.

I worked in Saudi a long tome ago and the pharmacist gave me hydrogen peroxide drops. I was dubious but they worked. Lovely fizzy sound whilst they did their work. I assume I have bleached ear drums.

It’s one of those things you usually have to pay for these days. I’m not keen on the vacuum cleaner, I don’t think it leaves your ears feeling sparkly clean like the old syringe used to.

I did spot in my GP practice the other day that the local ear cleaning place do free wax removal for over 70s.

It looks like Kemi is first out of the traps in the ‘can we be more Reform than Reform’ competition that Nige has lured them all into. She’s gone full Enoch.

She’s a nutter. That alone may attract many votes.

From the BBC article – “I am struck for example, by the number of recent immigrants to the UK who hate Israel. That sentiment has no place here.”

So what she plan to do with those of the indigenous population who hate Israel?

Why can’t you fry eggs in the omelette pan?

    That would be heresy.

I agree with @mert re. woks – “Heat, scrubbing and oil. LOADS of heat”

Works best if you start out with a cheap carbon steel wok from a Chinese supermarket. Similarly my carbon steel omelette pan is nicely seasoned and just needs a wipe out after use, No sticking.

However… fried eggs!! What to do those in? I recently binned my latest non stick frying pan and got a lovely Samuel Groves stainless one. It’s great for general frying, meat and stuff. But eggs stick like, well you know what. So do I go back to non-stick, try cast iron or get a small carbon steel one and season it like my omelette pan?

+1 for Trinity Sessions Cowboy Junkies. Very laid back Sunday. As was their earlier offering Whites Off Earth Now!!

OK, they’re just a laid back band.

    +1 for Solid Air too.

I would possibly also go for some “cool” country like Buddy Miller or some of EmmyLou’s output (Red Dirt Girl is a great album). Oh and some acoustic Richard Thompson.

cycle.travel uses OSM for routing. The background map default can be changed to OSM which does shoe boundaries, gates, etc. BUT… OSM depends on the accuracy of the person who has submitted the data. It can be somewhat iffy.

Quite a lot of the US population too judging by the comments here:
