One of them was on the goggle box last night. Let’s say she was a little peeved at the loss of her right to bare (almost) all for Messrs Murdoch & Co

A bit like Rubber Buccaneer but with a company called Falcon….windsurfing. OMG it was 1985!

There were lots of frogs crawling over the streets in Nidri….like a carpet!

I got ‘lucky’ on that holiday! Sighs

    No relevance for today then!

Funny how we are all different. I had one, hated it, couldn’t get shot of it quick enough. Same with a Scandal and a Cotic Soul. Wasn’t really happy until I got a Swift, but that is a different kettle of fish!

Don’t go to a chiropractor, chiropractic is nonsense.

I have always had good results from my chiropractor, equally from the physio I use. Ho hum….

Not sure I totally agree with you. IME physios tend to be really good with soft tissue injuries but less effective with skeletal problems. I use both, as and when required.

    Is this sad?

At least during the week, I tend not to ride because I can get better results (fitness wise) by an hour and a half on the turbo. There’s no cleaning, no extra kit to worry about and it is all over and done with once I have finished. For some reason, night rides have just lost their appeal atm.

At weekends, it is back out on the trails…or the road, seldom the turbo.

I threw a football back to George Best once – at a throw in. Us kids were allowed to sit round the touchline during the game. We kept trying to trip the linesman up.

Haven’t read all the posts but for me it is the useless plastic bags that rice comes in. However careful you are the bags split and rice goes everywhere.

Two things…..investing in a SIPP may not be that bad an idea. With the new pensions regime coming into effect from 2015 the case for pensions (over ISAs) can be quite compelling (particularly if you pay higher rate tax).

Commission – doesn’t exist any more so footflaps must be after something else! 😉

There are limits to the pension contributions £40k pa iirc…but I could be wrong.

    LOL

You can get a Hi Mod frameset (2014) at a little under £1,500. The 105 Evo is about that for a complete bike.

Stiffer is quite important, lighter, not necessarily that fussed. At about 6ft 4 and 191 lbs, a slightly lighter frame isn’t going to make as much difference say, as a decent set of wheels.

It all sounds good to me. A lot cheaper than new cranks! Hopefully no creaking either!

The ride where they died turned into a slog through wet sand and mud of epic proportions (65 miles). My mate was having transmission problems on his single speed Krampus so the fact there was anything at all left at the end was a bit of a result I think! The bearings were fine….the teeth had disappeared!

I had some KCNC aluminium ones. They lasted three years but went from being fine and dandy with little apparent wear to totally destroyed in one ride.

No worse or better than nylon ones IME.

Have had a look at the Exeo. It seems to be a lot of car for the money. Have organised a couple of Skodas to have a peep at too.

A mate of mine has had issues with Mavic hubs which seem to be quite common i.e. rusting, components falling apart etc. He had to bodge repairs with biro springs and zip ties as they don’t do spares kits for hubs. (This was on a pair of wheels that cost £800 a year ago).

This has put me off Mavics specifically and some factory builts in general. I’m after a new set of wheels for next year and am debating whether to go for Dura Ace C24s or a set of handbuilt Archetypes.

Rotor….recommended by my LBS. Too expensive for me though I dipped my toe into the brand with a few BBs. Let’s just say they didn’t last many rides before getting rough and grumbly.

Hope have proved much better, especially in the mud.

Don’t forget, if you withdraw your pension in full next year and beyond, you will pay a voluntary tax on 75% of the fund. So instead of it going to the financial sector…it goes to Georgie boy in no 11.

Funnily enough, the countries cited by the Government as leading lights in this area (USA, Australia etc) have all started to take steps to return to compulsory annuitisation as the system failed big time. Many pensioners blew it all too quickly and simply ran out of money and were thrown back on the state as the provider of last resort.

The rules regarding automatic enrolment are that the employer has to provide a scheme to which you are automatically enroled. You may however, opt out.

    Hmmm

I saw a 150 mile road route and sort of assumed it might be similar.

Anyway, not my idea and I sort of agree with you.

    Consensus then is bonkers!

    @binners, fair comment.

No offence taken. The difficult bit was working out how to get quite a complex message across in about a minute – which I have done.

The visual side just seemed to ‘fit’.

I’ll give it some more thought. I have worked out my own animations etc and thinking about it, I could build on that to develop something that is ‘mine’.

I noticed a difference moving from alu to carbon but I don’t have a specifically ‘aero’ bike.

I broke the hour many times on a steel bike and if you look at the old timer’s times for given distances, they were pretty damned fast, faster than many folk today on fancy kit.

I’d say it would make a difference though, but only if you are really good/fast to begin with.

Re the post above where the ToB went through and smashed all the KOMs. There is a long drag around here which was one of the ‘climbs’ in the women’s ToB. It is interesting to see how much quicker the women pros are than all the local hot shots. Sort of puts ones ‘ability’ into perspective.

I was refused a mobile phone a while back, as was my wife. It turned out that, as mentioned above, despite having a mortgage and credit cards which we use all the time – but effectively as debit cards, theuy just didn’t have enough to go on (to satisfy that particular firm’s requirements).

They recommended we go next door to another firm, and try there. We did….and the applications went through without a hitch.

FWIW my Experian score was only two or three percent off the maximum

Then you’ll start getting bitter about all the people who use iphones and similar which have different sampling rates to Garmins etc which makes them (artificially) quicker even though they are no way as quick as you ever……

‘Tis a long and slippery slope.

Personally, I love it, it gives me some focus so I don’t just do ‘dead’ miles.

The carbon Flash is the sort of bike that wrings all the energy out of you but leaves you with a big grin on your face. It is pretty much a race bike and not a general purpose machine.

No idea about the Anthem tho’.

The comments about folk buying stuff and then offloading it unopened/unused sort of reminds me of a conversation with an American chap who came over here for a couple of years (USAF).

He said his brother was an investment banker but gave it all up because he realised there was more money to be made by sourcing iMacs, iPads, iPods etc that people bought just to say that they had one. They were rarely opened and practically always unused.

He ran ads in local papers all over the US and paid scrap prices (because a new version had come out and ergo, the old stuff was crap now) then promptly resold them on ebay. He loves Apple launching new stuff because it always ended up in his getting a new source of goods.

At uni I only ever shopped in charity shops for clothes etc. Buy lots of s/h books now.

I won’t mention the TMTBR rider who stopped to pick up an adder in Thetford Forest and got bitten then. Nor the fact that he carried on riding and didn’t got to hospital for >24 hours when it got a bit painful!

    Silly Billy!
