If you stray in Norfolk don't go to Dereham… the armpit of the western world!

With the XBox you get kill after death, resupply after death and heal after death which is all good IMO.

Hmmm… looks like hardcore will be worth a try. For some reason I have never ventured into it.

If anyone is on XBox3 I'm SaxhamWarrior (my son chose the name) 😳

Just had a go at lunchtime (Rush) and came away with an 8,500 and a 13,500 score. All down to hitting lots of big bonuses at once and healing a lot of people! Usually it is much lower than that.

    Sorry, why the hardcore recommendation?

Online, it beats COD into a cocked hat. The graphics aren't quite as good but things like squad play in Rush make it much better. Games are longer too so you don't keep cycling through scenarios every 10 minutes.

Campaign is a bit easy and short so I zipped through that in a couple of days.

thebikechain – my nephew and niece go there. Can't remember the name but next to Alton Water?

+1 for the Fox and Goose.

If you go to Southwold or Aldeurgh on a sunny weekend, mind out for the ****ts in massive 4x4s who come up from the smoke and think they own the place. If you are into birding, there are some quiet reserves to visit. Later in the summer you can see skylarks really close up if you walk along the scrub just behind the beaches at places like Dunwich. I have lived here most of my life and am constantly blown away by the quality of the light (at certain times). You'll know it when you see it.

If you head north a little, there are some great beaches (look on your OS map for access to a beach near Horsey Pump) here it is miles of sand, hardly any people and if you are lucky there are often seals on or very close to the sand. Yes it is Norfolk, but it is well worth a visit. (The beach is dead tricky to get to and the car park os just a clearing in the reeds but so worth a visit.)

Despite the lack of hills Suffolk is a great place if you want a quiet break.

    Hi Sam

I was sort of inspired by the Pegasus article. I love the bike (Swift) as a rigid but wondered whether it would be as nice as a HT particularly for long days in the saddle.( BTW I can't afford a Pegasus and barring a stroke of extreme (financial) luck I don't think it is going to happen either more is the pity. I'll just have to drool!)

If you look at the grass in the background of the OP it seems to be pretty vertical which suggests to me that he has popped up over a rise and is shaping up to take the next section.

But I could be wrong……. probably am.

I cut down to 4 bikes recently and have ended up with a (road) fixie, a road race bike, a swift and a superlight. I instantly regretted dumping my 1×1 and my scandal but I ended up enjoying what is left rather more. At the drop of a hat (and a massive injection of funds) I'd sell the swift and the superlight and get a Pegasus but it isn't going to happen this side of the next General Election.

The road bikes stay, I am flexible (in theory) about the mtbs, but only if I get shed loads of dosh to spend on a Ti29er.

I have just found myself without a SS for the first time in maybe 10 or 12 years*. It is a bit of a culture shock and I may well have to buy another frame to build up for the winter.

I ride Thetford mainly so it probably explains why I get on well with it.

I have got a pair of their crap wheels and all I can say is they are bloomin' fantastic so far (several months of constant use).

I also have 4 sets of pads but as none of my old ones have fully worn out yet… I haven't used them!!! 🙂

You should see the damage that rabbits do. I do some "rabbit control" for the farmer who lives next door. On some fields last year I'd say a couple of acres of crop was ruined per field and I have 300+ acres to look after. At the end of the day, it all translates to higher food prices even for veggies!

Anyway, rabbit is tasty and 70% of the ones I erm… "control" are for the pot. I eat some, my mate gives some away to old age pensioners, we sell some to a game dealer and the rest (30%) are left for M. Reynard whose presence always gives me a lift or sometimes we give the smaller ones to a chap with ferrets.

Grey squirrels are just a different form of pest, they may look cuddly and cute but they aren't, especially when they get in your loft and like all pests, they don't go away if you trap and release them elsewhere, they'll either come back or give someone else a problem – not really a solution.

Someone must have done a sketch/mockup of Pap Lazarou and Callmedave. Labour have missed a trick if they haven't thought of it already.

I think they muttered something just before they met their maker!

What? Something like "Don't you disrespek me man, I got rights innit"?

(i bet some of them are cat owners so therefore forfeit any argument about killing things as they choose to have a wanton killing machine in the house as a pet)

[rhetorical question]Is this the same disconnect that allows people to eat meat too because someone else does the killing in an abattoir/fishing boat?[/rhetorical question]

One of my distant relatives was a judo black belt, and did his judo thing all over the world, in the 1970s. He's built like a bloomin' bear but nevertheless three guys tried to mug him. He is actually as meek as a lamb but nevertheless suggested they back off as he was a black belt. They laughed and went for him anyway. He walked out of the alley, they didn't. He wandered off to the police station, reported it and told them where to find them. The cops said they weren't bothered as they had received a good kicking for their trouble and probably wouldn't do it again. A case from the Gene Hunt from the plods then!

We are all entitled to our beliefs/concepts of morality

…as long as we keep them in our heads! 🙂 Once you let them out however…

"Squirrel rights" come from the same place that yoof's "respect" does.

We are all entitled to our beliefs/concepts of morality the trouble arises when you try and justify them on an internet forum. Some people will agree with you, others will think you are bonkers. Some will try to shame you into siding with them, others tell you the first bunch are bell ends. It is the same as religion, only more "right on"! 🙂

Jimmers… thank God this is the internet or I'd have thought I'd gone mad.

In view of the opinions expressed on here I think the best thing for you to do would be to invite the squirrels round to yours for a drink and a nibble. Explain your position, make sure they know you are offended by their constant digging and appeal to their better nature. If you are firm but fair I am sure they will see your point of view and agree to dig up someone else's garden then you will be happy, the sqizzers will be happy and there will be no point for precious moralising with everyone getting hot and bothered. 🙂

The distance you have to worry about is 50m from the centre of a carriageway but you can ignore this iirc, if it does not cause distress to other people. Having said that you are allowed to discharge an air weapon (non FAC) within your garden but you have a statutory obligation to ensure the pellet does not leave your land.

Squirrels have exceedingly tough skulls and pellets (.177, .20 and .22) will sometimes just bounce off them (even guns up to the legal max). The best way of despatching a squirrel is through the chest (under the foreleg passing through the heart etc is best). If you haven't shot animals before don't be surprised if they run about, jump up and down, twitch etc when you have shot them it is just their system shutting down. To be fair to the squirrels though, you do need to be able to take them out cleanly. That usually means being able to shoot to a standard where you can put several pellets through a kill zone maybe the size of a 10p piece (for a squirrel) before you even try and shoot it. Then you have to be prepared to mess it up because of nerves when it comes to taking the shot… many people lose concentration and fluff it, either missing the quarry or wounding the animal which is unacceptable if it could have been avoided.

It isn't just a case of borrowing a gun. Oh yes, and beware ricochets and grumpy neighbours.

I got the 705 in a package with UK maps (not the road). TBH they are pretty pants but I'm not using it for any serious navigation so it doesn't really matter.

IMO the 705 is a training tool with additional GPS facilities as opposed to a GPS with HRM etc.

I had a really poor experience when I used it.

I thoroughly degreased the chain, hung it up and let it dry for a couple of days. Wiped it down with a clean rag and applied as instructed. I then repeated for good measure. When i came to fit the chain it was coated, plenty of evidence of wax all over the plates links etc. Went riding and it was ace, nice and quiet. Shifting was cr@p but that's probably because I was riding singlespeed (sorry Monday morning attempt at levity). Anyway, the ride was wet but not that wet if you follow me. I got home, put the bike away and went in to thaw out, etc. Next morning I went to clean the bike and the chain was solid with rust. Very disappointing. Anyway, I thoroughly cleaned the chain and went back to my old lube.

I had some sort of well matured children's cough remedy a little while ago. It was maybe 5 years out of date but was the only stuff we had in the house and my cough was terrible. So, I took a good glug and went on with my day… for about half an hour when I started to feel exceptionally fine! Didn't make the connection so later on I had some more (maybe 4 hours later) with a couple of generous hot toddies. Apparently I was rather "jolly" that evening. I planned to repeat the dose next day but my wife had thrown it away and replaced it with a bottle of new stuff.

I could have sworn the giraffe on the label was talking to me you know! 🙂
