There was a Viking Saga type game on the original Spectrum that I really enjoyed, sort of RPG, then came the first version of Lounge Lizard Larry… we had loads of laughs with that one…not the gameplay but it was just so corny.

About the time I w3as playing Elite first (286 processor time folks) I was also playijng Starglidewr which was cool (then).

Maybe that’s it… understandable has become confused with acceptable. Once the anger has died down I guess people will revert to their normal selves. It depends how close you are to the ‘action’ though and I for one, have the comparative luxury of being an onlooker from a very quiet rural location so in reality, have no conception of the tensions underlying both the rioting/criminality and/or the response.

    Fence…meet my bum! 🙂

How many of us here have a pension, an ISA or even life insurance investment? They all come with tax breaks to basic and higher rate taxpayers. Are they morally questionable? No.

When the super rich do what they can to avoid tax then it can seem wrong to the majority of the population but, and it is a big ‘but’ if they make no call on the financial support system funded by NI, taxes etc, maybe they aren’t so bad after all? Is it ‘wrong’ to work within the Law to enhance (or protect) your financial position? The answer has to be no.

The tax breaks they utilise are available to everyone, the vast majority of us just can’t afford them. The fact we haven’t got the cash to make use of the facility doesn’t make it wrong. To a degree, calling it ‘wrong’ is the politics of envy, just to a different degree than the OP.

I am not an apologist for the super rich but relating their actions to theft is of spurious value. If you steal, destroy other people’s possessions it is illegal, it is morally indefensible. Using the system to maximise your financial security (to whatever degree) isn’t illegal, it may be difficult for ordinary peeps to come to terms with the fact that we don’t have as much money as a banker, a footie ‘star’ or whatever but if we don’t, we don’t.

Should the system be changed to tighten up on the use of overseas banks etc? That is a different question altogether.

Not sure there is any correlation between the tax breaks and stealing. One may be morally questionable, the other is illegal.

I have found money/wallets in the past on more than one occasion, and have returned them intact to their owners (or the local plods). As said earlier, it is what I would hope people would do for me.

If we all had a developed sense of social responsibility it is what we would all do. Suggesting that poor people have a different set of moral standards per se, is insulting. Being poor does not predispose you to crime or lack of moral compass. There is something else going on here and it isn’t simply poverty.

I live in Suffolk and have done so most of my life. It is a bit limiting with young kids tbh but if, as others have said, you like ambling round villages, going for long walks, village pubs, good food etc then it is great.

North Norfolk….very pleasant but if you go to Burnham etc it is a bit Chelsea by the Sea. Full of affluent folk from the Smoke who take over the town(s) etc. We love NN but generally only go in the winter when it is quieter.

Lots of bird watching if you are into that, loads of reserves in Suffolk and Norfolk, there’s Pensmere (where they did Spring Watch), Minsmere etc, the Otter Trust at Earsham, and several market towns in the west of the county (avoid Stowmarket and Needham Market though and don’t go anywhere near Haverhill).

Riding – Thetford and of course Tunstall/Rendlesham.

If you get really bored you could always go Stobart spotting on one of the bridges over the A14 😉

I remember my first road race. I was a reasonable tester at the time and had done a lot of circuit racing (in a group) so felt I was well prepared. When we had finished the roll out and racing started I was well up there with the bunch (no breaks yet) and was pretty confident. We hit the first slow bend in the course (90 degree left hander) and I couldn’t believe where the field had gone. The acceleration was more than I had ever experienced before and I was off the back in a matter of seconds. I rode myself back to the group in time for the next bend, repeat performance of bend one but this time it took me longer to get back on and within the first two laps I was pooped and they got away up a hill into a headwind and I was out there on my own. Time for an early cup of tea I thought, race over.

Yes, still putting in the miles round Thetford. Sometimes I get bored and spend time on my crosser exploring trails and bridleways further afield but if I need a singletrack fix it is back to the old stuff!

Clink… I don’t know tbh, my ones are uber tall and noodly.

It is interesting to see so many with the original forks. I found them just too tall. I put a pair of On One carbon forks on it and the bike was transformed, it is fast, handles brilliantly and rides like a dream. I found that the more weight I put on the forks the better the thing rode. Whereas I used to use mine for mile munching on fire road type trails, it is now a singletrack eating monster.

    Fantastic bike!

    Budget… £50 or thereabouts.

He was into peaty flavours whereas I prefer the cleaner lowland whiskies. In view of the occasion, I’d be happy to see him out with his preferred tipple.

There never was one scotch in particular, we just kept trying as many as we could.

Yes I have got one, had it for several years. Bear this in mind as there have been several hardware upgrades since I got mine.

Easy bits first. Storage is easy, they aren’t really any bigger than a normal turbo.

Set up is a bit of a faff the first time round but generally, once you have done it once, that’s it.

The rides on the standard software are ok but can get a bit dull after a while. If you go here http://www.virtualrealitycycling.com you can download other people’s rides and ride their courses, or even race against them, enter leagues etc all of which make it less of a dull experience.

I have trouble staying on a standard turbo for much more than 25 minutes; my standard sessions on the iMagic is one hour plus and I manage to work that hard I can hardly walk afterwards.

I love mine but would really like the upgraded brake mechanism however, I can’t afford it.

One thing though, I understand they don’t work on 64 bit machines. Check before you buy if this is going to be a problem.

    OK I’ll bite!

I have a pair of Superleggera hubs. I have had them almost a year.

The bearings on the front hub died remarkably quickly but the rear is fine. The front hub, new bearings fitted, is fine.

I am more than happy with the hubs. They aren’t as good as my DT240s but they are priced slightly differently. At yet another price point are the A2Z hubs… silly light and about £145 a pair. No idea how long they will last.

Oh yes, the Superstar hubs click/whizz a lot. it is only good if you like that sort of thing.

I have just been through this on a 1×9 build and it took me ages to get it right, even now I am not completely happy. I ended up with a 36 on the front (same combo cassette) and it is a workable compromise. A 34 tooth chainring just left me under geared most of the time and I ended up using 7th and 8th gears and then spinning my nuts off on road sections. I kept looking for another gear but there wasn’t one to be found anywhere! At some stage I could be tempted with a 38 but not just yet. I ride in the hilliest part of the country if it helps get a handle on my gearing issues… my riding is primarily up and down the cols de Thetford 😉

I loved the bit where that guy was saying that Ayn Rand had told him it was perfectly rational that they should have an affair and so they did!

Ayn Rand – the Godmother of yuppies. A bit like Thatcherism really, look out for no 1 and **** anyone who gets in your way,

I could be wrong however, as I had been objectively imbibing a bottle of fermented grape juice and my rationality circuits were a bit befuddled.

About 12.5% working by the OP’s table. My great grandfather was posted to County Cork. He moved over with his wife (called Minnie) who died pretty quickly to be replaced by a local girl called Minnie. Good thinking really, he didn’t have any of those embarrassing moments when you call a new partner the wrong name!

Can you check the length please? 210mm is within a mil or two of what would (just) work for me.
