I have a copy of my records on an external HDD so can have try. Now to find out how to scan into the Mac using TWAIN. I am sure it is simple……

I don’t do much with them, simply storing scanned dox as .pdfs and viewing them within a fairly conventional hierarchical folder structure. What I find most useful is the ability to view the documents as thumbnail images.

Had an interesting afternoon on Saturday. The kid in question came over, with his mother. It seems that they are due to see someone on Tuesday who is a professional counsellor. It was interesting to hear that he has stressed how important it is that lines of communication are open and that these must be maintained at all costs.

Meanwhile, we spent a constructive hour or two bringing his mum’s bike back to life so he could ride it to work (KP in a pub).

Apparently he had never seen anyone working on a bike before (his Dad has zero practical abilities) and was quite interested in what I was doing. He reckoned he might be up for learning (limited) spannering – and we briefly discussed doing a build project where we source s/h bits (to complement what I have in my spares box) and make him a ‘cool’ bike. I left the ball in his court. It would give him a bit of focus and give him something else to think about apart from getting his next score.

It would involve a reasonable journey for him and his mum but at least she would be able to sit and natter with my better half and he could learn some skills. Fingers crossed!

(Apparently, he has had some unpleasant issues with his waterworks already. Hopefully it is an early warning and not too late.)

I’m no ‘innocent’ but I know things have moved on since I was at uni. I too have had friends who were ‘totally in control’ and then went on to….erm nothing really, just a totally messed up life until it all ended badly.

The thing is it seems to be a different ballgame nowadays.

Peterfile has talked a huge amount of sense on this thread. +1

As I said before, thanks to everyone for their input.

‘Good news’ in depth discussions with his mother, who has been talking to him a lot, reveals it is not Crystal after all. Methadone or Methadrone….

WTF has he got himself into?

More constructive criticism. Check your copy, there are too many mistakes – spelling and grammar. It does not look professional.

Nice idea about bringing old bikes back to life – never a bad thing IMO.

@peterfile I am going to have to check. Someone at his school was done for crystal not that long ago so it isn’t impossible.

I’ll have a word with his mother.

Bottom line then….not like having the odd spliff?

I’ll chat to his mum later to get this clarified. She is more than a little anxious needless to say!

He has admitted to using it a couple of times a month but I suspect it may be more…

he’s smoking it apparently….is that possible?

The latter it seems… ‘crystal’ was the term used.

I will have a word with his mother and find out however.

You’ll probably be fine. My hate is all about speed…or lack of it. Jump on the pedals and nothing much happens, it is also a bit heavy for the few climbs we have round here.

I have put some better wheels on it this winter (CXP22 instead of Fulcrum 7s) and it is a bit more lively but nowhere near as responsive or speedy as a carbon roadie.

Long off road rides are a bit painful though you can push hard and go pretty quick on fire roads. Singletrack becomes a bit more exciting but…you have to do some pretty radical unweighting over roots etc. Get it wrong and you have a flat on your hands. I haven’t done a successful ghetto tubeless conversion yet.

I run a Jake the Snake with 105. It spends more time as a winter hack bike than anything else now, though I did do a road/off road ride of around 100 miles on it in the spring. Despite 700x32c tyres I was a bit beaten up by the end.

I alternately love and hate it. When the hate sets in (usually late spring) I jump on my ‘good’ roadie and all is well.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but why not simply use Open Office instead of Office?

My iMacs at work used to have Fusion and it worked fine….still does on one of them. I took it off the other machine so I could see if I could run everything on a Mac. I could, so I left it. The only reason Fusion is still on the other machine is so I can run my old iMagic!

Have a MBP (retina) and it runs Win7 64 bit just fine via Parallels.

TLDR the whole thread, only the last two pages.

My sister in law sees a lot of overweight and obese people. She reckons that they all tell her they hardly touch as much as a lettuce leaf yet still put on masses of weight.

Part of her task is to make them accept they are living in denial, failing to admit that they actually spend all day eating. Once they accept they are in fact their own worst enemies, and start to restrict their food intake, as if by magic, they begin to lose weight and their general health improves.

This sort of backs up the oft quoted relationship between weight loss and food input.

But there again…what do I know?

I received a series of cheques for a home contents claim, many years back…think it was Eagle Star. Kept the first one and rang them up about the rest (all for the same amount which was >£600).

Got a nice letter back saying thank you. It appears that the way the cheques had been issued, they would never have found out anything was wrong even if I had cashed them all. They said they would be changing the system in light of their new discovery!

    OTOH…*

*I am not a doctor either

I landed on my elbow a few years back. Massive swelling and it had to be drained a couple of times. I have ended up with a fibrous type thing on the sharp bit of my elbow. Dr says it ain’t going to go away. It only hurts sometimes.

I’d pop off to the surgery to have it looked at though…best thing all round.

I did a holiday job in a chicken factory once…that’ll put you off, brainless chicken or not!

Not to say we didn’t have fun getting tiny little chickens and injecting them with so much water (with added vitamins of course) that they got to football size, and watching while the full timers chucked them through the bandsaw and got soaked.

No wonder we were called “****ing students” and despised by all!

They did get their own backs though, by making sure we got most of the really horrible jobs every day.

Had to look at mine again as bloomin’ electricity supplier is trying to put my monthly bill up to £170. I calculate that we actually use about £90pm including standing charges. Will be speaking to them soon.

We have been monitoring our electricity use taking readings daily (splitting between economy 7 and standard). It is strange that when our next door neighbours are away, our readings drop by maybe 20%.

I have no reason to believe they have fiddles anything. We moved in maybe 20 years ago and their house was only renovated maybe 3 years ago. Before then, it was mainly empty but as they were farm cottages, I wonder if somewhere along the line, the supply was split…or something.

Anyway, we are getting the supplier out to check our meter. Meanwhile, we continue to live like hermits in dark caves! ;o)Roll on summer.

I got a £2 pen from one job. Hadn’t been there long, hated everyone, I think they were glad to see me go so they could return to their mundane existences. I didn’t fit….kept asking ‘why’ and ‘if this is a better way to do it, why don’t we do that….?’

Mmmmm Elite. I can remember playing that at work during lunch breaks, then at weekend. Quite phenomenal for the time. I copied a friend’s version, iirc it came on one 5.25″ floppy.

I am the same height as the OP and had an XL Soul (one of the few they made). It was a bit too flexy.

If I were you, get something like an XL Swift, you will never look back, particularly if you are riding around BSE.
