I have just had a corporate hospitality type invite from the Pru to come and …..watch!

In solidarity with all those on here who didn’t get a place, I shall not be going! 🙂

    King Harold’s been shot???????

Yesterday’s stage was brilliant, just what the TdF needed. Really enjoyable to watch and most of the usual suspects conspicuous by their absence.

In a way, Froome’s departure makes the race a bit more interesting. Sad for him but one man’s misfortune and all that.

    Try your lbs first off.

If you spend hours and hours in the saddle (on a roadie) it really needs to be comfortable. It is such a personal thing, what works for one will probably not work for another.

My mate swears by Flite but I think they are the work of the devil. ironically, the best saddle I have come across recently (for my road bike) is the one that came with it! I only found this out after trying lots of others ad getting nowhere with any of them.

Hydration is better. Long rides are up to 4 litres.

Still eating gels/bars and scones (at the obligatory roadie coffee stop)

I have a very good diet, lots of all the right stuff (fruit, veg, fresh fish, meat etc) and practically no junk – I can’t tolerate fats or sugar which helps. According to my wife, I am looking like a scarecrow but the thing is, I am getting stronger and stronger as every week goes by, though I consciously have to eat more during the day to keep the weight on.

I’ll look like Chris Froome soon! 😯

Going to ride out from Bury and find somewhere quiet along the route, possibly near Finchingfield.

I have an old Contour HD.

I experimented with camera height and angles etc and found the best overall (compromise) position was to fit the camera to the head tube. You got the impression of speed and most of the steepness of the trails etc.

The best overall place was on the fork leg but it used to get covered in mud so I had to move it higher up.

So, how old are you stoffel?

Mid 50s here and no problem with storing/losing fat. I have increased my mileage to circa 200p/w and my problem is eating enough to keep weight on.

I had a quick 27 miles last night. Easy trails, nothing tough or challenging. Riding out to the trails the roads were empty, there was no one in the forest…no horsey folk, no dog walkers, no bike riders, just deer and hares and birds. On the road ride back there was one roadie coming the other way (cheery wave and a hello for ‘roadies don’t wave’ types) and one car. That was it….full stop.

The trails were dry and hard, the sun was out, it was warm and practically ideal. The only downer was a stiff wind on the out leg. Still, it helped when I turned for home!

You gotta love the World Cup and fine summer evenings.

    Cool!

    Congratulations.

Now, after a slow start when sleep deprivation kicks in and every minute seems like an hour….life will begin to whizz by and in five minutes it will be ‘Yay! I’m a Grandad!’ :o)

I would be surprised if it didn’t.

Cannondale have a good reputation iirc for ally bikes.

Re the porch…it has been like that for over 150 years so not much I can do about it!

They will be putting a gutter up on the porch which will be an improvement.

I guess it is time to talk to the building inspector then.

    Thanks for all the input.

@dooosuk – no I didn’t see it fitted, though I saw the raw material floating round the drive.

Yes they are cladding the external walls with Celotex.

DenDennis…. I’ll dig it out again and have a look.

They didn’t have a surveyor….just his Dad who used to be a long time ago.

Excuse the crappy paintwork (was a job for this summer) the front elevation

    slowjo

@dooosuk The only reason I can assume the roof is higher and it doesn’t fit flush, is that they have laid celotex on top of the battens.

Otherwise…..your guess is as good as mine.

Looks like some difficult conversations in the offing then.

Maybe the chicken way is just to get building control out……

Rain…..not lots but this is still very much a WIP from their perspective, the builder is still on site.

If it helps, this is what they are using as the ‘secret gulley’

    Wotchyer Cock!

Used to be a more or less standard greeting back in the day.

    Nowadays….depends who it is.

    Friends….variations of ‘Hi’, hello etc

Family – peck on the cheek

Business – handshake, and a formal/semi formal salutation – depends what ‘side of the desk’ I am on if that makes sense.

I got mine. Basically paid the fee for fitting and got new tyres and tubes in return. In effect….a bargain.

    Nice.

Rigid is good. I have a HT but run my Swift rigid and it is still my ‘go to’ bike.

Can you get a 2.4 in the back?

Stooge…. a bit slack IMO….especially as Suffolk isn’t overwhelmed with hills! Oh yes, and it would need to be an XL too.

I’m not surprised they were surprised at you asking that.

Maybe if the rim crumpled as you rode it away from the shop otherwise….

My Swift has been a SS and geared. It is currently geared and, as always, rigid.

My ‘Go to’ bike, I have ridden it (predominantly offroad) for just under 4,000 miles in the last 18 months. I reckon my total mileage on it must be nearer 5,500. It still surprises me and frequently puts a smile on my face.

The paint is a bit messed up in places but I just love it to bits.

Thought about a new one so I could get 2.4s in the back and SS the oldie but I’m worried it won’t ride the same.

    Anyway, thoroughly recommended.

I had one of those a few years back. It rode really nicely especially around Thetford and the environs. The problem came when I decided 34:15 was a good ratio. I hated it, persevered and then sold it. I could easily have changed the gearing but life had moved on by then and after many years of riding a SS I decided I needed to give gears a try again.

    I kind of miss it….and then again I don’t.

Best to insulate yourself from it. Pay off your debts, save for when your out of work and keep riding your bike.
