2nd loop of Penmachno in really bad shape at the mo’. Totally overgrown and broken boardwalk. I’m a fan, but would give the 2nd loop a miss

Bugger! Guess who has a cottage right on the 2nd loop the week after next…….

No idea but I’d be interested in this. The anti glare coating on my specsavers glasses seems to symphonic grease out of the air onto the lenses where as the uncoated ones seem fine but erm glarey.

Hmmm, maybe I should take my bike for Exeter Pirate Day in September then I could ride like a pirate. Might get more money for the Arrrrr NLI :P

Was he a hippy guy in his 50s on an old fashioned bakers bike? I only ask as one stopped and sung a sea shanty for my mate and I at a festival earlier thus year.

I know where you’re coming from though Spawnofyorkshire. Just left the fracture clinic having a cast removed and a splint instead and I’m already thinking of ways to not get injured instead that don’t involve riding on flat surfaces for ever. I’m guessing the feeling will go away when I’m ready to ride trails again.

Oh, and ironically I was wearing full protective gear including a full face, back protector, etc.

I’ve got the 1.9 which could barely pull the skin off custard but for bike duties it’s great. 3 bikes in standing up with both wheels in place and shelves either side for gear, tools, lube, etc.

Plan to upgrade the door speakers if you listen to anything with any bass.

Broken wrist = no riding. On top of which Mr Drunken Idiot decided to stumble into me last night at an Ocean Colour Scene gig which has made it feel worse.

I broke mine a week ago Monday and was advised against vigorous exercise as it will stink, could cause skin issues and even soften the cast.

@Alex – sorry, couldn’t find my settings and can’t really find out what they are due to a broken wrist. Just off to the fracture clinic alas.

@Alex – I’ll get the settings for you over the weekend. You’re sure you have the Magnum Pro and not the comp? Just checking.

@Dearn – the Fox 32s must be stiffer. The Manitou Machete 32 I had you could see them twanging backwards and forwards on rough fire roads.

What Don said! There is so much adjustment on the Pro it can take a while to dial in. Mine are the 120mm ones. I actually prefer them to the Pikes on my other bike. The hydraulic bottom out is awesome when set up right and makes them feel (to me) like a mini DH fork. I upped the pressure in the front tyre to maximum in order to set them up and then tweaked the settings a little once the tyre was back where it should be which seemed to make things a little easier. No idea what my actual settings are – I’ve got them written down at home but I’m at work.

@andyg1966 – I’m with you on that one. The 32mm Manitou Machete that came on my Stache was incredibly flexy. I replaced it with a Magnum Pro (a very different beast to the Magnum Comp some of them came with) as I couldn’t get a 29+ Pike anywhere and at the time nowhere seemed to be able to order them either as they were OEM only.

Yes, that was me and my odd shaped wrist. I’ve ridden there before without issue as well.

I’ve just remembered I have an unworn pair of Orange Bikes special edition Endura Singletrack shorts in XL. At this rate they will be worth a fortune

Don’t they just. I managed to have the front wheel wash out on the way to the uplift for the 1st run of the day at BPW on Monday (sill no idea how it happened), dislocated my finger, distal radius fracture I’ve got to wait 2 weeks to see if it needs surgery, 2 cracked ribs, torn shoulder muscle (on the other side to my wrist) and numerous scrapes. I wasn’t going fast and I was only about 100 yards from the centre :?

The 1x remote comes with a bleeding edge adapter (well, mine did). If you don’t already have a bleed kit then you will need to factor in the cost of this as well whichever option you go with.

    Highlights:
    Dropkick Murphys
    Hacienda Classical
    Dead Kennedys
    Major Lazer

    Disappointments:
Standing in a queue outside a tube carriage for ages to watch Glen Matlock only to sober up, get bored and wander off just before h&s gave the stage clearance

Napalm Death – not as good as my 17 year old self remembered them

OP, If she went to Glastonbury then she missed out the drug most of the young people seemed to be taking. Come 11 PM it was like being involved in a zombie movie as the Ketamine Kiddies took over – they didn’t even look like they were having much fun!

Some of you will probably call me a heretic but I missed out on the Foos in favour of the Dead Kennedys

Got an elbow to the face in the pit

If they show the Hacienda Classical set that would be worth a watch. There were a few “surprise guests”. Watching Bez pulling faces whilst grinding up against Rozalla as she tried to sing everybody’s free was comedy gold. There was an amazing atmosphere there!

The Orb were also very good last night but Napalm Death were a bit meh. I’m looking forward to A Guy Called Gerald and Stanton Warriors later.

You will be fine with a big tent at Beautiful Days it’s a pretty chilled out festival compared to something like Glastonbury. The walk from the car park isn’t too bad even if you are right on the other side of the site – less than a mile I’d say – we normally do a trip with tent and rucksacks then head back for the other festival essentials (cider) later. We also leave our fancy dress for the Sunday in the van and pick it up Sunday morning when we drop off some things we don’t need any more to make Monday morning easier.

**EDIT** Also, thefts from tents only tend to happen on the Thursday night when at Beautiful Days and curiously they happen mostly in the Family Camping area.

Only a short ride owing to having been at a music festival for 2 days in the rain and being quite frankly worn out. Went out to Drewsteignton and rode around a few bridleways coming back on the Hunters Path.

Well, there was that little band from just across the river. Muse I think they were called. Currently the biggest band from the locale is probably Mad Dog McRae who do well on the festival circuit but there’s an up and coming group of teens called Ethyrfield who have what it takes to be a big thing in the next couple of years.

Is the front maxle as hard as it reads to undo etc ?

I assume we’re talking Manitou forks here – no, it’s dead easy once you’ve done it once or twice but is a bit fiddly the first couple of times. Anyone who struggles really isn’t trying, is looking for an excuse to buy a different fork or has only done it once.

I ride Haldon a lot. It’s close by and convenient. Some of the off piste stuff is very good and the trails aren’t rubbish. Is there better riding locally – yes. Will it be hellishly busy on a bank holiday weekend – very much so

I’d download the gpx for the MBUK big ride at Woodbury and follow that. A mixture of heathland gravel tracks and woodland single track. Either that or head to Dartmoor which for once isn’t in a liquid state. There was an MBUK winter ride which started at Hound Tor and takes in some reasonably interesting trails.

Drove up to Cwmcarn and did a lap of the Twrch. Had to use the Stache as my 5010 is at the LBS having the reverb swapped. Regretted not swapping back onto the Chupacabras as the Vee Bulldozers seem to grip everything except the Cwmcarn rocks and dragged like hell on the climbs. Good ride though until first the back brake decided to stop working (leaked most of the fluid out over the pads and disk) shortly followed by the front deciding it too was not going to play on the final descent which made life erm, interesting!

Polly of Wales – vodka, gin, blue curaco, snakebite and a dash of Orange Juice. Looked like A pint of fairy liquid.

Judging by the state of a bloke in the pub the other night the new death “drink” is gas chambers.

I was wondering this myself. I saw adverts everywhere for it a couple of weeks ago when I stayed in Hope and was considering it for next year.

Didn’t ride yesterday as I’d ridden every day in the peaks this week on holiday. Took the Stache out today at Woodbury but for some reason my Garmin decided to lose over half the ride there’s just a straight line on the map and it looks like I went up a 300 foot cliff.

I gave £125 for a brand new but removed from a bike 125mm KS Lev Integra with aftermarket southpaw (metal clamp) from a bike shop. No idea if that was a bargain or expensive though.

Santacruz have no weight limit. The linkage setup on the hightower gives something like 305 psi for 20 stone and the shock has a max pressure of 350psi IIRC. Assuming he has a lot of vouchers of course.
