my strava for my last ride told me my max speed had been 116kph. I run strava from an android app and I did drop my phone on a stop when out on the ride so I’m guessing that was the rate at which my phone hit the deck .. I’m sure I would have remembered 116kph otherwise.

Pre Strava days my old phone registered 342mph during a crash (caused by picking up a branch through the front wheel) on iBikeRide. I’m pretty sure none of me was moving at that speed or I’d have been hurt

If you need to refit an olive then you need to leave a bit extra (10mm should do it). Next cut off the outer and the braid leaving just the inner. Thread the olive onto the inner and it seems to go over the outer more easily. It’s still a tricky job but much easier like that. Obviously after fitting the olive cut the end as you would do normally.

As a middle aged IT person with a bling bike or 2 this has made me realise I need to up my game a bit in the van stakes to generate true frothing at the mouth

Headed up to the Forest Of Dean again yesterday for the 2nd week running. Getting to know a new bike which made me have a fail on the roll out to the fire road above Launchpad. Plenty of helpful folks offered encouragement but it was a complete mental block. Went back to it later once I’d got a bit more used to the bike and nailed it first time – it really isn’t anything complicated either.

    Obligatory new bike pictures

a pint of bonfire with hot dog juice in it
What? Marzen is supposed to be a fairly normal german lager.

It’s literally just beer brewed in March with a recipe designed to last the summer in a cellar (back in the days when brewing in summer in Germany was banned) so a bit maltier and a bit bitter-er.

    Not in this case……

Despite being a cider drinker I seem to have developed a taste for Schlenkerla Brewery – especially their Marzen which is kind of like a pint of bonfire with hot dog juice in it. Whatever unpronounceable name the green one has is even better as they left out the bonfire and just appear to have made beer out of sausages but I’ve only ever seen 1 bottle of that and 4 of us shared it.

I also recently had cigarettes and coffee beer which did indeed taste like dirty ashtrays and coffee. For some reason I didn’t like that one

Devon this morning was odd. Very humid and still when I walked to work then it got progressively darker until it looked like the world was about to end. Then it got lighter but the weird orange light other have described. Now sunny and breezy.

Although I didn’t ride in the Enduro I went up to ride in the morning and watch the enduro in the afternoon. Looked well organised and the atmosphere was great. Trails were as always a good laugh.

I can confirm that at times there were big queues for the toilets but there were an awful lot of people there so I guess that is only to be expected.

Excellent day out all round 8)

A straight left ring finger, less dodgy knees, the ability to eat what I like without getting fat and a breathing system with no allergies would be great.

Where’s a good place to watch this? We are planning on getting up early to drive up from Devon then do some riding in the morning followed by a spot of spectating in the afternoon.

Does anyone know if Santa Cruz bikes come as complete kits from SC US or do Jungle/the dealers source the forks in the UK? Just wondering if there will be yet more delays to my new bike?

Had my ear pierced whilst at Uni. Took it out when I left. Still have the hole because it never healed up which comes in useful about once a year for fancy dress parties.

The off piste trails were slippery last night up at Haldon but the official trails were fine. Have fun folks. I’ll think of you all as I’m slithering my way round the Quantocks.

was told they couldnt get one till end of November maybe December!

At least they were honest. ETA on my bike (from a different manufacturer) that I was told would be a couple of weeks has slipped to the 3 month mark in the 3rd ETA slippage since placing the order back in July…..

Riding with a wrist brace is horrible – couldn’t get on with it despite trying a few different ones. Get yourself something to strengthen your grip (I got some rubber eggs from Amazon) as it will be weaker. Do your physio as much as you are able to. You will know when you can ride again because before that it will hurt even when you move the bike let alone ride it.

Which bit(s) did you brake? I broken my distal radius and could ride again at 2 months (after injury) but not for long. At 3-4 months I can now do longer rides but if it gets cold and wet it aches like a git. I’d probably still only just be thinking about DH as opposed to technical XC though.

**EDIT** I also read some research which suggested taking vitamin c to reduce the likelihood of chronic pain syndrome so I did that just in case.

Mount Gay XO (Over budget unless on offer though)

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is only £36 a bottle in Waitrose at the moment and is amazing.

For a much pricier but much nicer Rum. That one I’ve forgotten the name of from last Saturday that was £35 a shot 8O

It doesn’t necessarily mean it hasn’t been sent. Once the pre-advice is received by RM the next update should be when it is scanned into the local Deilvery Office. The last package I got from CRC never got this scan so it went Preadvice received, Scanned into Exeter, Scanned into local depot, Delivery notification, delivered. So it would appear that the issue is actually with the local depot in NI.

**EDIT** I’ve spent the last few months battling with Royal Mail IT systems to determine why an integration wasn’t working so this is a bit of a pet subject at the moment!

It’s more an unfettered expression of joy, tinged with the sweet sting of anxiety.

Sounds a lot like buying a new bike to me. The joy of placing the order, the disappointment of your multiple “sorry but your new bike has been delayed” phone calls then the anxiety of will it actually turn up on the current latest agreed delivery date…..

Dartmoor – just as you come over the bridge on the M5 near Exeter where it becomes the A30 and A38. I always feel like I’m home then even though I have about 15-20 minutes of driving still to do.

I got soaked every day last week riding in North Wales. Came home Friday after riding the Marin trail and just about managed to dry everything out and got soaked up on Dartmoor again today due to torrential rain and large deep puddles. In addition to this my new bike has been delayed – apparently due to the wheels not being available.

They look perfect for riding some bits of loop 2 at Penmachno. Of course you will still need a lifejacket so you don’t sink and some chicken wire plus some wood to repair the rotten boardwalk as you go round but at least your hands will be intact.

See when people say these TVs are obsolete, I’m assuming you mean the software no longer receives updates but the tv still actually works?

The TV still works of course. Some of the apps may work but there will often be a whole load of apps that don’t. Vimeo and Red Bull TV no longer work on my Sony for instance. Also, YouTube whilst still working has started always giving subtitles with no way of turning them off that I can find. Thank heavens for Chromecast!

Mrs slowbloke picked up a 909 on Monday. Hers is a small and as I’m 6’4″ I’ve only had a little play but it’s like a big BMX although I suspect that has more to do with the size than anything.

And you definitely don’t want to end up in A&E at the Local hospital. The 2 hour wait for triage seems to defeat the object of triaging anyone.

Thanks ton and Bigman – some good suggestions there from a quick look. I’ll check them out.

soobalias – I know what you mean, it isn’t ideal so ideally I’d like something with a little more movement. I’ve got full movement back in the wrist and it’s mostly OK but could just do with a bit of support while the muscles get bulked up.

If you’ve broken it, wearing a brace so you can get back on the bike soooner is just stupid

Obviously the consultant looking after my wrist who is medically trained doesn’t agree with you

I love working on bikes. Used to do it for a living and so got taught well by an old hand. Having a nice workshop to do your fettling in makes it so much more pleasant that trying to work in the kitchen/outside when the weather is so nice you should be riding. I’ve just converted a shipping container to use as a workshop which is actually very nice to work in.

I’m happy to beta test. I’d like how far am I from my weekly goal/annual goal.

Even better would be “how far do I have to ride each day/week/month” to hit !y annual goal IMHO. Although !y view might be skewed by getting massively behind due to injury.
