Managed a quick ride. Sadly no pictures as when I was thinking about taking them some militant old ladies appeared, lined up across the trails and started screaming about how they hated cyclists which rather put a downer on the ride……..

Now that is weird. The picture is sideways in safari in the Mac and the right way up on my phone……

Afan lodge really doesn’t feel like a YHA when you stay there. I’d say Bryn Bettws is more like that especially given the bunk beds.

Yes, it works. I’ve got one with bike storage at one end and a workshop at the other end. As stated they do get rather warm in the summer and if you are working in there you will need light even in the summer ideally.

This is mine – which for some reason the picture is sideways – sigh

I dunno jam bo – I bimble up there quite a lot – except recently where it’s been more like swimming than bimbling 😂

Dartmoor is OK but there’s very limited amounts of truly great riding. Keilder is lovely but I’d probably hit the 7 stanes out of your choices. If I wasn’t limited by your choices I’d hit the dark peak.

As far as I can tell it’s because the car park has T5s in it and there are too many people not riding Santa Cruz bikes but standing around in the car park with them or something…..

Or it may have been something to do with IT managers and golf – it’s easy to lose track TBH

My old steel cx bike had been sprayed matt black and then teflon coated by the previous owner. It seemed to make no appreciable difference to how much mud stuck to it TBH.

I’ve been to BPW 5 or 6 times already this year, and I’m going again on Sunday – that’ll be 3 weeks in a row!

The only issue I’ve ever had there is fellow riders not being terribly careful when loading and unloading bikes from the uplift! Luckily invisiframe has saved my paint from pedal scrapes and the like but it’s been frequent enough that I’ve bought a cheaper used bike to take on uplift days. And before anyone says it’s a mountain bike it’s bound to get scrapes, I don’t mind if I damage my bike riding it (annoying but expected) but if someone else does it because of carelessness that’s uncalled for.

Sure is daern. The dangers of sitting at home last year with a broken wrist – I ended up spending too much time looking at all the options then ticked all the boxes to cheer myself up!

Surely any route that goes round Bodmin rather than through it is a great route!

Mountain Bike Range South Wales posted yesterday that you would be mad to go to Cwm Carn.

BPW is closed until this evening at least.

    Yes, you’re mad ;-)

“Just for your information we don’t offically ‘close’ any of the official <span class=”_5afx”><span class=”_58cl _5afz” aria-label=”hashtag”>#</span><span class=”_58cm”>MTB</span></span>trails due to ‘weather events’ as we have many sites that are not manned and in reality it really depends on your level of experience and equipment etc. However, due to the Red severe weather warning that has just been issued this morning for the Cwmcarn Forest Drive area in South Wales we would strongly advise that you do not venture out on to the MTB trails for your own safety and the safety of o<span class=”text_exposed_show”>thers who might have to be tasked to rescue you in the event of an incident. Any response to an incident will likely entail very prolonged delays due to the weather conditions. <span class=”_5afx”><span class=”_58cl _5afz” aria-label=”hashtag”>#</span><span class=”_58cm”>Afan</span></span> is on the outskirts of the area and will more than likely be severely affected as well.”</span>

My KS Lev got a little slow yesterday in the snow (feels like -11 said the met office) but otherwise survived OK. A 2nd KS Lev didn’t even notice the cold today.

I’m hoping it doesn’t snow too much as I’m booked for Bikepark Wales on Wednesday. Mind you, I remember that on the same date last year it was snowing at the top of the uplift.

Only 1.11 miles but 160 feet of climbing all crammed into the middle half – down hill on the way in and up hill on the way home. I don’t usually ride though as the bike parking at work sucks and it’s quicker to walk than get the bike out.

Much like DezB it’s Hill rather than Hilly

Forest of Dean today. Drier than I’ve seen it in ages. Upper Sheepskull was getting decidedly tacky and grip was appearing by this afternoon!

No pics though – too busy riding!

My mum always uses the name Jennie but she’s actually called Miriam. Just to add to the confusion my dad and I both have the same name (Alan) but he called me George and I call him Sid – no idea why though?

Yes. Pedals are fine. They started making an odd noise one day and generally sounding like they were dry but they had recovered by the end of the ride and a strip down found them fine inside so no idea what happened there. Loving the fact they are so slim – makes a big difference on a bike with a low BB

Was this ride posted on Strava with the title “Half a ride. Need to get fitter”? The figures look surprisingly similar to something a friend posted……

magnum is a great fork if it’s a Pro which has the Dorado air system and the hydraulic bottom out. I’ve got one on my Stache. Manitou also make a Machete 29+ but it’s a bit anorexic for most.

I managed to run a 29×3.25 Vee Bulldozer in a Magnum Pro but you wouldn’t want a mudguard of any description as well! owing to not having much clearance,

I have one on a set of Carbon bars (Santacruz) and that’s fine. The other one was originally on a set of Superstar alloy bars and moved continuously no matter what I did but once I swapped the superstar bars for a set of Nukeproof Sam Hill bars it stayed in the same place no problem. It’s a bit of a crap design that only works on some bars……

Fox36 have similar holes – weren’t they there for ages before someone (Syncros) decided to make a mudguard that fitted?

the flange is unobtrusive. ive never really noticed its there

Good to hear – now if I could only find a set of standard diameter ones in black I’d be laughing. I can find slim black ones and any diameter I like in Orange at the moment.

The Ergon ones look interesting, not sure about the flange – I need to get on the bike and see if it will get in the way.

Those ESI ones are monsters! Not sure i could go back to non-lockon grips though.
