No photos alas but I used to have one of the early Gary Fisher X-Caliber – the very yellow one – yellow frame, yellow forks, yellow rims. The Hayes disk brakes were woeful as was the Manitou fork but it did have short chainstays and a longer top tube with a shorter stem – god knows why that never caught on

I have fond memories of wrecking the rear mech near the start of the Newnham 90 and doing the whole thing with 3 gears selected by the front mech

Can’t you just bend them out a bit?

They don’t appear to be terribly bendy – the welds cracked on the one I tried so I just ordered some new ones (£10 each so fairly cheap) – 2 individual ones this time to allow for more flexibility in placement.

Another new bike with GX owner here with roughly the same experience as richmtb. I put the feeling better than the 10 speed XT on my old bike down to it being new and not a few years old though. SRAM GX shifter took all of about 10 minutes to get used to after years of Shimano due to the “double thumb push setup”. 1x took more getting used to as the gears are farther apart and so my “instinctive shifts” were off for the first few miles.

Not the same van – but this is what we do in ours – just need to replace the bike rack with a slightly wider spaced one as the tyres I’m using now don’t go in the rack

It also looks like the bikes need washing and the van needs tidying – that’s tonights job.

Looking at those pictures of the Peak above I’m really looking forward to a week Friday when we had back up there for a week of Riding :D

This weekend we rode at Woodbury Common – a slightly disjoined ride as someone had just got a new camera and wanted to take pictures for once. Some of the pictures were better but alas it would appear I pull all manner of silly faces when riding

We started with some of this

And then spent an hour sheltering in part of the forest due to a sudden hail storm.

1 working fine and has been for years. 1 needs bleeding or something as it only goes down slowly on maximum speed and is locked out for the rest of the adjustment range – LBS are going to look at it when I’m next over that way as it’s new.
