That flipping “It’s all part of being a pirate” song. It’s been a constant companion in my head (riding or not) for the last few weeks since Exeter Pirate Day.

I’m looking for a deal on a 19,5 now, can be a 5, 7 or 9 but they seem thin on the ground at the moment.

Anyone seen a good deal at the mo?

2016 models very thin on the ground as far as I could see. Not many dealers seems to have the 2017 but they can all get it fairly quickly but there isn’t much (anything?) in the way of deals to be had that I could see.

All compressors in a small garage are noisy – especially if you workshop is metal!

Was the difficulty on the 2016 Mulefut or the 2017 Duroc? I’m considering asking the bike shop it’s being delivered to just to go straight ahead and set itup tubless if it’s the 2017 ones

I gave in an ordered a 2017 Stache 5 last night. Should hopefully be at the shop by the weekend according to Trek :-)

I managed to justify the purchase of a Stache last night with the words “It’ll save my other new bike getting ruined in the winter mud” – luckily she’s a cyclist too so understood perfectly. She did however say that it is now her turn to buy a new bike though

It threatened rain earlier when we were doing the Gunneraide Gill loop and thundered once but the lightning now is continuous! One hell of a storm!

It was stupidly hot earlier though.

Yep, got a surface pro 4 that I use for my mIn work machine. Just a shame windows is so bad at display scaling you have to log off and back on when docking and undocking (if using external monitors) unless you want icons half the size of the screen or so small you can’t see them.

There’s a great article on the Strava blog about what the numbers mean. Most people perform better when “slightly fatigued” apparently. I use it as a kick in the butt to try and get the fitness number up and I notice the more I do that the more the fatigue seems to die off quicker. I’m not using a power meter though just HRM.

It’s a fair few years since I’ve used a conti tyre but my last set of verticals failed at the bead whilst the bike was in my van. Tyre held to bead by just a few threads. Mind you, as I say this was a while ago – the tyres were designed to have something called tubes in them and were in a weird size known as 26″

Yep, ordered a bike from them that said “In Stock”. Delivery date came and went, range them up to chase only to be told that it isn’t in stock and they have cancelled the order

Camped Thursday to Monday at Escot Park for Beautiful Days. Got a bit wet (but nothing like last year) but the wind made a couple of trips back to the tent each day to hammer back in tent pegs a must.

You could always use the Viz recommendation of a 50/50 Mix of Jam and Prozac* so they are less aggressive

dangerousbeans I went for blue pins on my vaults, 2 weeks riding and they’re pretty much silver, barely any anodizing left.

Wait another few weeks and unless you’ve already taken them out and threadlocked them then some will fall out and you’ll have to put the spare pins in which will be blue again – either that or I had Friday afternoon Vaults as mine also came minus grease!

Aha, makes sense. I’ve always steered clear but have seen groups cycling it in the past.

That bit isn’t a bridleway though is it? Basically unless it’s a bridleway, RUPP or BOAT then Dartmoor says “no”. Apparently it was originally the commoners council who decided this would be a good thing even through the NPA always get the blame.

Yeah descent from Water is always wet but this was one of the drier bits (left hand turn by the stable after the really wet bit pas the 1st gate. I’ve watched the gopro footage and I’m still at a loss as to what really happened – one minute I’m turning and the next “understeer” And then it digs in and catapults me sideways. I’ve got some lovely footage of the forest canopy though :-P

Heh. Same experience here – I just had to limp out of Lustleigh Cleave with a mashed ankle after losing the front wheel on the descent from Water. It was of course completely the fault of the tyre and nothing to do with running out of talent :-P

Woodbury as already said but take a route (or a local) or you will probably end up spending all day on sandy double track.

Good news if they do those proposed changes. How the hell did that entry point make it black – have they never been to Wales?

    slowbloke

deadkenny – Member There’s is the black, but the less said about that the better.

The black (such as it was) still appears to be closed after the last lot of storms. They’ve built a wooden fence over the entrance now. I would imagine that will be the last we see of that. Besides, it only made that god awful boring fire road climb longer!

Check things like stems etc. are standard sizes before you start. I started doing up an old Peugeot only to find out it had a non standard sized headset and stem. This would have been OK if the stem wasn’t known as “The Stem Of Death” due to its propensity for snapping 8O

I’m hoping that it’s to do with Android Pay NOT being launched today but I don’t think it is.

I would say not as it’s working fine here on an Xperia Z3 – although I’ve yet to use it to buy anything.

Not sure if Amici used to be Rotunda – that would have been before I lived in the area. TBH I don’t frequent Torquay a great deal as I live nearer Newton Abbot although I am out there tonight.

If you haven’t been on the new bypass yet you will be amazed at how quickly you get to Torquay.

Yes really it is till there – not sure I’d class it as half decent though!

Of course if you used to live there you could always go to Jingles (yes, it really is still there) to relive the memories of dodgy cocktails and average Mexican food!

    Bistro Pierre (French)
Legends at Steps (Best steaks in the bay)
    Or
    Amici (Italian)

All suitably romantic – Legends or Amici would be the most intimate smaller venues.

almost.. the geometry is tweaked to suit the ladies. shorter top tubes IIRC

Really? Everything I had read suggests that there is just a smaller frame option – not that it matters greatly as she picks up here new Furtado tomorrow.

**EDIT** I’m not saying you’re wrong as I’m no expert – I’m just surprised.

last two pics are of mk3s? identifiable by the curvier rear swing arm, and the welds around the top tube. the mk4 (2011+) looks almost the same but the extra welds are gone.

I’d never even noticed that till you pointed it out – every day is a school day!

OK, so technically it’s a Santacruz Juliana but that’s just a re-badged Superlight so I’ll post a piccy of my girlfriend’s bike anyway. She’s picking up her new bike tomorrow but as of yesterday this was still in full time use. Pikes are normally run at 110mm but she ups them to 140mm for longer descents :-)

Of course the plus side of budget tyres on performance cars is that they protect your drivetrain (due to less grip causing less strain) so you be sure that your gearbox etc. are all working fine as you slide through the fence and into a field :P

Sometimes. No on the road but yes on the track, but then only if it’s the difference between just avoiding the limiter and another gear change. A lot depends on what your cars dyno graph looks like though. The higher you rev an engine the more stress it’s under (unless you’re really labouring it down low).

Can you see Strava/gps info live?
    erm…
    Heart rate/zones/etc?
    erm…

Some Strava data (at least on Android Wear watches) but nothing that useful. I got one to use as a “remote” for my phone when starting and stopping rides on My Tracks – then I switched to Strava that does it automagically. Then I bought a Garmin and don’t use my phone for that anyway

The only time I use mine now is when I go to the pub – a gentle vibrate on the wrist when someone is trying to get hold of me is more discrete than “ring ring” or a song no one likes playing.

**EDIT** You can follow an arrow indicating direction on Viewranger but it’s not that easy riding one handed on some terrain in order to look at the watch……..

I’m astounded to hear of a phone that may be slipperier than the sony Z series glass front and rear phones…

I doubt there is – even a greased piece of teflon can’t be as slippery as those. Mine used to wander off my desk on it’s own till I put a case on it.
