Suck it up would be my advice but the last time my fil was at my house (he lives on the otherside of the world) it ended up one night with both of us screaming at each other in the rain.

I lived and worked in B.C for a year and I would have to say I found Canadians a bit odd. Alot of them grow up in quite small communities and have pretty bad social skills and can be quite small minded.

But the landscape and opportunities for sport are amazing and the few open minded Canadians that I did meet where pretty cool.

You will be fine if its one ride downhilers lose the oil ring seal to improve the feel of the fork at the expense of extra servicing.

Some motor bike fork oil has seal swelling agents to improve longevity of the seals and to stop leaking. The extra friction this causes is over come by the weight of the bike and rider so no not all fork oill is both suited for motorcycles and push bikes.

What brand of fork is it someone here may have a good oil to recomend which has worked well.

Just to throw a spanner in the works I am the same size in shimano and sidi I have narrow ladies feet apparently and swim in most other cycling shoes. It might be worth going to a shop and paying the extra.

My pet hate are the cyclist who have zip ties on there helmets in Oz to stop magpie attacks. I alway ask if they can get the world service on them.

RS recommend 15wt but you can run lighter weight oil, I mix redrum and 5wt 50/50 which gets you to about 10wt and it works well it allows the oil to circulate a little more than straight 15wt does. It helps to also puts some slick honey or o-ring grease on the bush’s of the lowers. As to oil levels in the lowers don’t stress too much a little more is better than two little you have to really fill them to get them to hydro lock (hydro locking is when the lowers are filled with enough oil to stop full travel)

I still like vinyl as lots of music I collect never made it to cd or any digital format and it’s alway nice to walk into a shop and browse the racks but good quality wav files (granted that you have a half decent dac) and CDs are always more convient to use.

37 don’t ride hard enough or often enough to justify an expensive FS sitting there, espescially with how tame the terrian is where I live.

The simple problem would be just that the lockout mechanism needs bleeding as mentioned before it could also could be hydrolocked. My moneys on the lock out though, push it all the way in and hold using the most of the pressure in the system and push down on the fork if the fork opens up it just needs a bleed.

If you had the moco cartridge out you would see how the system works when the x-loc is pushed down it pushs a rod down which opens the gate on the loc out mechanism. Without any pressure on this gate the gate stays closed hence why a bleed may fix the issue.

I have only seen that as part of a complete air assembly chances are the air assembly has failed anyway if you are getting air by pass into the lowers. It could be the seal which stops air getting into the lowers or the crimp which holds the air assembly together.

You could try the oil level it may be a little low it’s best done with the lower legs off as you can test for hydrolock. Dna mo-co’s I have found need a little more oil and the lockout is not always superfirm. The silver dail is low speed compression and inderpendent of the lockout. I ride my sids almost always in the middle setting.

If your not sure take it back to the place of puchase for some advice.

Do it in my exiperence working in shops all brands and have warrantied there chains and I have seen them all do it.

How do think they improve them if they don’t see how they are have failed in the real world.

Especially considering it was not at the main link.

Go stainless steel or be prepared for a big bill ceramic bearings in my oppion are only good if you spend the big bucks and get the special harderend races. Otherwise the the super tough ceramic balls smash the less tough bearing race to bits. How much riding, conditions did it take to wear out a set in a year it might be good going for the design.

The link above will only suit pf bb30 not pf to suit 24mm axels the only issue with using them is that made of plastic they require much less torque to fit the actual bb.

    Edit

My bad Just checked I see that the white is pf bb30 so the above product will work with care.

As a mechanic who has done a few seasons doing neutral support for cross events I would be wary of 2nd hand cross bikes they get ridden very hard. Seeing the same bikes season after season and during the seasons they deteriorate pretty quickly. I would also be looking at basic Sram groups the sl’s tend to put up with the dirt a little better and the 1 to 1 pull ratio can be more tolerate to the poor conditions. If your on a budget you could think of a 1 by 10 system more options for cheap cranks one less sl one less mech.

Sounds like the op was so annoying that the garage was happy to get any compensation for the damage which was caused by negilance.

Good quality motorbike oil of any brand will do the job, I use silkolene as I have acces to it in large quanities.
As for the 15wt for the lowers I tend to mix a little 5 wt in so that it migrates around a little more the only downside is that more will show up on the upper legs but if you clean these regularly you will be fine. If you can get some slick honey put that on the bush’s for a super nice breakaway as well as the air assembly o-rings.

It’s probably just a single Bearing that has failed, it happened to me with new some pro two’s. I just replaced the bearing myself as it was easier than sending the wheel away.

Good fork there were some hiccups with the early 35mm boxers but being coil with a basic damper system you can’t go wroung.

The trick to modern boxxers and all rock shock forks is regular lower services.

If you own the van I would make or buy something that secures the fork to the floor and then remove a wheel.

    Using something like this

    Fork Grip 15mm x 100

In the ten years of being a Bike mechanic I have seen more alloy cranks fail than carbon and no catastrophic carbon crank failures this of coarse may be due to the popularity of alloy cranks.

Two of the three bikes I own have carbon cranks this is because of my preference for sram xo and xx having said that shimano make lovely alloy cranks and I would be happy to ride them.

just ride what’s on the bike you want and remove the tin foil off your head.
