    I’ve found this: http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/hope-pro-2-evo-xx1-xd-qr-drive-side-spacer-135mm-id83626.html

I’m assuming the EVO axle is fine and I’ll just need one of these drive side end caps and a standard 9mm non drive side end cap. Can anyone confirm?

Good news for those interested, Voda will unlock for free providing you are at least 12mths into your contract. You have to follow and online form application and apparently they will action within a few days

I should add, I’m currently out of contract having gone 25 months into 24 month deal.

I’ll see if Apple or Voda are feeling generous

Weirdly I found my old large 26″ Soul ever so slightly short. Wider bars helped, would probably try the same on 45650b.

Can’t stretch to a Soul 275 full build (and they are still knocking out the dodgy painted frames at the moment which I’m not keen on).

I’m figuring, give the 45650b a chance to prove itself, if I still hanker after 853 next year then simply switch everything on to a 275 (with proper paint) when funds allow and flog the spare frame.

I also think Magura is an obvious option. I’ve always liked the modulation on offer across their range. Easy enough to work on too.

    Bargain for £79.
I’d rather pay the little bit extra for SLX for the advantages listed above

    slimjim78

I agree, value wise the 45650 looks best bet. I can’t see anything close to similar spec on the X01 version for the same money either

Full SLX set inc. rotors for £99 on CRC at the moment. As above, I’d have gone for them if for nothing other than banjo adjustment.

I’ve been told in store that I can buy whatever I like with the voucher. Which is nifty

Im now looking to beat/match the spec by building myself – any tips on where to source bargain components greatly appreciated.

Currently considering: X01/X1/XX1/X0/XT/Saint/Zee drivetrain (trying to decide if I HAVE to have 11sp or not)
    Revelation or Pike
    Reverb
    Controls and Wheels sorted

With my cycle to work voucher of £1000 I can nearly squeeze a full X1 group, Pike, and Reverb – which I would in theory end up with a 32% discount on (after paying off through salary sacrifice), so £680 all in.
Plus, Evans will give me £50 cash back and £50 on accessories (which will hopefully cover the Reverb purchase).

So, groupo / fork / reverb for a total of £580. Cant be bad, right?

News flash, just spotted discounted x1 xx1 and x01 groups on Evans website.
I’m due to take out a ride to work voucher with Evans next month so if I plumped for one of these, I’d in theory saw at least another 32% (plus additional cash back), whilst spreading the cost over a year.

Might be a go’er for me. Pending XD driver suitability and cost. Now I just need to workout which version(?!) . I’m not a ‘gravity rider’, so I should exclude xo1, right?…?

    Thanks for the info.
I’ll admit, I’m out of touch. I didn’t even realise until this week that you could build hybrid drivetrains.

    Being a SRAM fanboi, I’m currently tempted by a 1080(?) cassette and X0 1×10 groupset, with maybe a set of them on-one xx1(?) £99 cranks and b/b.

I realise it’s a bit heavier than 11sp set up, but when I smack myself in the face and come to my senses I realise that I can’t justify £200+ cassettes no matter how lovely.

What’s the consensus on the current x0 range?

Njee, I see your point. I guess I’m refering to ‘is there an XT or Shimano deal that is so good it simply knocks Sram outta the park’?

In essence, I’ve used a 1×9 SRAM X0 set up for several years and loved it. Not overly keen on looks (not performance last time I used) of Shimano gear. I did however fall in love with XT disc breaks on a trial run last year so could potentially be swayed.

I’ve seen what looks a cracking X0 (v2?) 10sp groupset deal at CRC for around £240 and am wondering why everyone seems I ignore X0. Is it suddenly inferior to the likes of XT? I’m now thinking of going for X0 plus a t-rex 40t expander to give the range id like. I’m new to 11sp arena but judging by groupset prices I don’t think I can justify the outlay.

I guess my question should really be, barring a bargain 11sp deal, what’s the very best value/performance 10sp set up?

(might be a good time to admit that the 650b wheels I have a deposit down on have Hope hubs with I believe a Shimano freehub?)

Yeah. Mouth/foot interfaced on this one I think

    slimjim78

    haha.

yeah, a bit of fraud never hurt no-one

In essence, you are buying a voucher in order to sub-purchase ‘goods’ up to the value of £1000 in order to get to work by bike and/or become healthier. My understanding is that you don’t even need to buy a bike, but instead could blow the lot on, say, gloves. If you wanted to.

So if I used the voucher by proxy to buy a bike elsewhere?..
Plus passing on matthews recommendation of £100 discount to another lucky punter.

I’d be paying back the voucher to my company. And i’d be riding to work. I’m struggling a little bit, maybe its my criminal mind. But is it actually fraud?

I guess youre not paying the tax on the voucher, and so if went and spent the voucher on a knees-up in Ibeefa… Hmm. Ok. maybe a bad idea.

I too am looking to be pointed in the right direction for the best Shimano/SRAM 1×10 / 1×11 pricing

So far on this thread, the On-One Xo cranks at £99 look spot on, but is there a better all round groupset deal for say, XT or similar?

All threads are leading me to bike-disount.de.. any other shouts?

apologies to OP if pinching thread..

I don’t agree with hoping for long prison sentences. It costs a bloody fortune to keep someone in prison. Only for the majority to reoffend upon release.

I hope for karma. And if karma doesn’t deal a fatal blow then I at least hope they learn to regret what they have done.

The pressures of an ever bulging population being these side effects. There’s always been knife crime and violent attacks, there’s just bundles more people to commit it – in the same small space. There isn’t a budget to contain it.

MSP – I think you missed my point – I’m not in the TDF, and I doubt you are – heck I’m not even usually on a road bike – but I am out on local hills and trails, passing geared bikes, uphill. It’s fun. You should try it.

Other than Jedi teaching me how much grip is available from my tyres whilst cornering, the biggest revelation I’ve ever had in cycling was realising I could do it all in one gear.
I defy anyone not to be hooked after passing a geared up sucker on a climb.

Mine is a scruffy mess, but from time to time I snip off the stragglers after a shower.
I can’t stand well groomed beards. It’s all or nothing for me, don’t see the point of letting your face grow a natural rug, but carefully preening in a neckline. Looks too much like The Jones’ front lawn/picket fence.

My hair is naturally very curly though, so it tends to clump into ringlets, especially around the neck. A good conditioning in the shower seems to tame it pretty well.

Rather thin tache here though, can only look on in envy at postieriches mane.

I never managed to get a tubeless tyre to seat with my track pump – got hold of a super cheap compressor – have never failed to instantly seat a tubeless tyre with it.

Plus serves me well for motorbike, car etc. Best bit of kit in my garage.

I totally get where the OP is coming from, although if bling also means durable then I do draw a line.

About 5 or 6 years ago I stopped fiddling around with Retro bikes (my dream bikes from the early/mid 90’s) when I realised that modern geometry and forks had come on leaps and bounds – and massively increased the fun factor of a ride (the advances in technology of modern lights for night riding also takes a lot of credit).
I then found myself fitter than ever and riding a Inbred 853 single speed – something I tried years prior and just didn’t get.
Eventually I found myself on a 1×9 Soul with 120mm of super reliable Reba travel and knew I had found more bike than i’d ever need – and promptly stopped lusting over new bikes and bling.

Money has a habit of flying out of my wallet faster than I can ever make it, so I am super happy to have dialled in to a couple of bikes that I love.

Unfortunately I had to sell the Soul last year during a financial crisis but am now rebuilding my SS Inbred and cant wait to get back on the old reliable girl. I even dig the battle scars and shoddy paintwork now, to me the bike not only provides great times but also looks like it been through great times! – its liberating not worrying about scratches to paintwork etc.

So in summary – i’ll buy bling brakes (for example) IF they are known to be super durable, and I know i’ll get years of good riding out of them. Otherwise I stay clear of the super bling reviews.
I do keep half an eye on new tech though. My riding has improved in the last few years mainly on the strength of certain advances in the industry.
