I’m staggered by the lack of anger towards the lorry driver.
Yes, the car driver appears to be a numpty of the highest order, but to use a lorry as a battering ram in order to vent frustration?

Rise above, carry on driving and arrive content in the conclusion that there are numpty drivers about – and always will be – but you are thankfully not one of them.

Its such an unbelievably dangerous thing to do.
It’s a shame that so many people need to experience this kind of thing first hand, either themesleves or via family/friends, before they realise the sheer danger and risk involved.

I cannot condone the idiot car driver for a moment. But the lorry driver is far far more guilty of any crime, and far more idiotic.

slackalice – I note that one of our previous projects was based in West Sussex, which is where I happen to be.

If you are local do you have recommendations for particular timber merchants in the area?

brilliant – thanks you lot! – many useful links. I must say, the western red cedar conforms to my minds eye – the Russwood link has loads of great finishes though.

I’ll post a picture later of the (modest) porch area in question – happy to take your thoughts on board orientation. I may-well have over-estimated meterage required, hoping my bill won’t be eye watering.

I was envisaging using horizontal batons to hold the boards, and half a mind to leave a gap between each (vertical) board, say, an inch or so. This of course leaves the wood open to better aeration but would expose the ‘building’ behind. Does anyone have experience of how to best hide the interior surface from showing through the gaps?
I guess that membranes or natural matting of some description are used?.. or black paint!

Way back someone posted this. I can’t believe it’s the incident I once saw as would be far too much of a co-incidence but I once saw identical behaviour by a truck on a UK motorway.

    T’was I, leaving M25 jct14, morning rush hour about 3 to 4 years ago.

First time the Lorry crossed into my lane it was half way past me and I instinctively assumed the driver had lapse of concentration as it moved back into the middle lane. 2nd time he swerved over to me I had to take evasive action and hop into hard shoulder. Then he moved back over again, so I shot ahead to get in front of him, as I passed cab he took another swerve at me and I saw him making various gestures and laughing at me.
I genuinely have no idea what the hell his game was, but I was almost delerious in protectant dad rage.

Tried my best with highways agency but despite being busiest stretch of road in Europe, they apparently had no footage.

I can’t blame the trucker for getting frustrated

Frustration simply has to be handled. (I just un-capitilised HAS, as I needed to control my frustration).

Your anology, and several other sympathisers here seems to be wanting to excuse the truck driver – because he was having a bad day, or something..

He is a professional driver, at the wheel of a massive, heavy, easily lethal vehicle. his actions were literally fractions away from squashing the other (bell-end) driver like a bug, possibly leaving a further trail of destruction behind him as other innocent parties pile into the carnage infront of them.

But at least the truck driver would have got his point across I suppose?

Stop and look at the desctruction these type of drivers cause to families every single day, empathise with their position, and come back and say that it’s ok to swipe a car with an HGV if they’ve been really naughty and wound you up.

Similar analogy for frustrated tree surgeon with chain saw in hand:

‘whats the fuss? he only lost a bit of his arm. Besides, he was really really rude to the tree surgeon’

    etc

There is absolutely NO excuse for that threatening driving behaviour, I don’t care how ‘frustrated’ the driver of lorry was. No One deserves to be twatted by an immovable object, even 56mph middle lane hoggers.
The lorry driver needs the full extent of the law thrown at him. Personally, I would ban him for life. It’s a fine line between aggressive driving and attempted murder when sitting behind wheel of 10 tons.

I had a lorry driver try to pull a similar move on me whilst I was driving on inside lane once, my 18 month old son with me in his child seat. I had to pull into hard shoulder several times as he repeatedly tried to side swipe me. The highways agency were unable to locate footage, so in this case another unbalanced professional driver got away scot free.

Bruce Dickinson rocked a mullet for 30 years, he’s barred.

    I’d probably second Tom Hanks

Obvious, but Steve McQueen sweated cool from every pore.

Prof Hawkins is pretty cool, the universe theory chomping, multi-lover pleasuring, wheeled genius.

As a winter bike specifically I can really imagine a Fat bike would be fit for purpose.

My trigger finger is poised over the Hesperus now its dropped by £200, but there’s bound to be another xmas reduction or two elsewhere also..

shimano are yet to produce a 190mm hub afaik

Yes, Deore level ideally, somewhere around that quality/price point

I’d rather pay 500 for a dune and buy brakes than buy a used on one fatty. Infact I did

I’m not so keen on the sound of quality of rear hub/freewheel on the dune. Plus a fatty would likely always be worth close to £500, the dune will probably drop to what, £350 after first ride?

As a big lad, I’ve ridden them before for several seasons and loved them. Super stiff, excellent tracking (if wheel is well built). Looks brilliant too.

The best thing about the Dune is its super competitive price point.

However, i’d still be purchasing a bunch of drivechain gear that has almost no value to pass on – therefore to get me buying one i’d need to see the low price maintained as much as possible, but inclusion of Deore level components (including rear hub).

A carbon fork would be great, but would probably up the budget by at least £50 so not a deal breaker.

Frame details like hidden cable runs (see Rose Tusker) would be sweet.

Large frame size for 6ft plus riders, plus the above, and keeping price under, I dont know, £650? That’d be hard to turn down.

Otherwise the price is too close to a mint higher spec 2nd hand Fat bike.

The USP here is the perceived low starting price.

I can imagine a UKIP Nirvana scenario where borders shut super tight as resistant strains begin to export.

There really is a scenario where hospitals are literally unable to treat serious infection. I can only imagine how horrid that scenario would be.

Still, there are simply too many people on the planet – which is effectively the main cause of the issue. Every time I put my grey matter to the test it comes back to doomsday scenario. We need a good culling, unfortunately.

    Happy thursday everyone!

Has anyone ever had a case of ‘acrid roasted peanuts & burning tyres’ farts?

Like, it’s such a distinct warm flavour it would almost make you heave if you weren’t so proud of your production.
Have had this several times in my life, still can’t tie it down to a particular ingestion. My dad genuinely nearly fainted when I released in his car once. He was so angry, the hypocrite.
