I was told to give it some time as it gets better. I’m on Ep6 and it’s utter tripe. Can’t take any more.

Little Will’s acting aside, he’s quite good. CGI? It comes across as a cheapo production to me.

Sorry for dragging up a tired thread, but I have to add, WoD in Brooklyn was easily one of the best shows I have ever attended.

If you are on the fence over seeing them anytime soon, I strongly advise that you do!.

I even got to chat with Adam’s mom & dad, who were right in front of me in the VIP area (perks of a pregnant OH).

I was struck by how they sounded even better live than on recordings, Adams vocals are much clearer and more distinct, and watching him own the guitar breaks whilst he wrings impossible tones out of it really is something to behold. A sublime band.

Also some of the best lighting I’ve ever witnessed at a show. To the point where I felt obliged to thanks the mixing guys after the show. Good feels all round.

just caught up on this thread, some genuine lols, thanks guys.

Several of you mentioned a few of our top picks so far.. the front runner being Lochlan, for which we would use Lochie, or Lucky (cause this is a one hella lucky conception).

Since arriving in the states this week we’ve found ourselves adding Woody to the top of the list, which has recently been demoted by… Arlo.

How does Arlo fit into the modern hive mind?

I love it. Typically, it doesn’t fit our initial criteria, but it is apparently of Anglo Saxon origin so he should fit in nicely to President Farrages society when he grows up.

    Dave/Rodney :)

I like the acronym game – last letter would be B, so tricky to make a good one with P as the middle name. Might need another middle name.

Dougal / Dougie have previously piqued my interest.

BTW – middle name will likely be Peter.

Adolf – IIRC its one of the few ‘banned’ names at registry offices. Bit Nameist if you ask me.

Dirk. Dirk is a cool name.

Cousin is called Rory so OH won’t have it (shes a teacher so it’s hard to get any name past her, based on her experience of satanic namesakes)

Barnaby is also taken (great name), and Toby is our dogs name :)

Miles is a maiden name in our family, but OH doesn’t like it.

Jude, hmm not considered that one before, i’ll see how it settles.

I like Milo, alas, OH doesn’t.

Awesome recommendations still flying in, thanks again folks! I will certainly be frequenting a few of them.

london_lad – forgot to add that your map looks to be pretty useful, cheers!

Edukator – I love to cycle cities, alas, OH is very pregnant this time around so it’s looking unlikely

Haggis – Didn’t you get the invite in the mail? Its actually on the 4th, at Brooklyn Bridge. We dine at a nearby restaurant that was home to several scenes in Sopranos. Capisce?

Bangaio – lots of great sounding ideas, I like the sound of Zinc!

Mahalo – La Esquina sounds like a great idea – thanks

Thanks for the suggestions folks – i’ll certainly be looking into a few of them. Korean BBQ you say?..

Haggis – you free between 1st and 4th April ? The big day is going to fall on one of those :)

It turns out (we didnt even realise) that our sister-in-law in NY is an Officiate – so I guess im getting married by my sister! (weird).

Saxon, i’d be very keen to hear your top recommendations to help fill a couple days.

Say, your best experiences for food/music/nightlife/culture/views etc.

Not looking for Michelin restaurants, more authentic and ‘oh-my-god-thats-good’ street food style.

Sounds like Toronto may not be worth the trouble then? Unless we combine a real quick trip down to Niagara falls.

phiiil – I see the base model Zoe costs around £14.5k, but what are the actual costs to purchase after the hidden fees, battery hire etc? Say, over an ‘average’ ownership term of 3 or 5 years?

The cynic in me is unwilling to believe that ‘the man’ would let you own a cheaper form of transport without paying for it in another form of tax. But im willing and happy to be proven wrong!

Haggis – im going to hold you to this.

Tonyg2003 – From 29th March to mid April – would be ace if you guys are nearby and want to say hi! We also have a gig lined up in Brooklyn on April 5th – so if you like The Black Angels, be there (they are simply awesome live).

    fasthaggis – ‘lol’

rocketdog – I love her parents, and they are elderly practicing Catholics, and we know it’ll bring them much joy if we tie the knot. My partner and I are also both aware that marriage isnt exactly a burning desire for either of us – but we love each other and it will also be great to make it official for the sake of our kid. The financial reality and convenience factors are wining over my austerity principles.

So yes, perhaps not the most romantic notion – but in a way, I think it is.

l_l_liam – I like what you said – life really is too short to dwell.

skink2020 – thanks bud, you may well receive an email from me

Anyone else want to witness the occasion and make it a (first?) SingleTrackWedding? I need a best man

On the contrary, It’s fantastic they they’ve been forced to actually think about a narrative and challenge their norm.

On the other hand, if they respond with their feet – then Hollywood closes the door on any ‘arty’ film projects again for a few more years.

Granted, I may have over-egged the conclusions drawn, and painted them with very broad brush strokes.

I’m merely a frustrated cinema fan. And there are a lot of very, very easily pleased folk – whom I hold deeply responsible for the death of modern cinema.

    Yes, fair comment.

I’ve been thinking about priming him a little less directly, as in ”what do you think your mum will feel about this?”

and if he says ‘she’ll be happy!’, then perhaps offer him a slightly alternate viewpoint with reasons why.

If he’s able to acknowledge any reasons that could make her feel sad about it, I can then approach how we he thinks he should react around her.

Yes, the plan is to tell him to wait in the car whilst I have a quick word with mum. My main concern is that she reacts badly (for whatever reason) and accuses me of backing her into a position where she has no time to respond.

I’ll give her more credit though, and hope for a decent outcome.

Not really sure what to say to that one, which is why I ignored it first time round.

I think the implied thought process is that my son is the important one if this dynamic. I’ve spoken to several divorcees on this point, and i don’t think its coincidence that they all tend to tow the ‘tell your son and don’t worry about her’ line.

Yeah, I think people are going in to this with way too many preconceptions – and imparting them on to the director/producers. Maybe y’all were expecting Batman to pop up and take out a few gun towers?

The only preconception I go in to the cinema with these days is ‘this is almost certainly going to be complete shit’ – and that way, when a director dares to try something different by NOT churning out an atypical Hollywood zit fest, I can sometimes be pleasantly surprised.

Dunkirk falls into the ‘made a fair stab’ category – which is probably better than 80-90% of releases these days. It’s not great, its not shit – it has several moving moments, some good tension ramping techniques employed, a nice palate and an excellent soundtrack. More worthy of the big screen experience than most. Tom Hardy was a complete miscasting though, he’s quickly become a parody of himself.

I made a poker / two-pronged fork with a Rams head. Loads of techniques employed, my arms were utterly shagged by the end of the day.

I now have one of the fanciest fire-pit-sausage-forks in Sussex.

    Lard-Ass – Stand by Me

‘I dropped the comb’ kid (also from Stand by Me)

    The Truffle Shuffle

The toothless chunk from Stranger Things

The Baby Gap joke from Superbad (in fact most things that Jonah Hill has done)

Fat kids are HILARIOUS! Just watch them wibble as they ‘run’ !

Branagh was just about palatable this time round. Just.

I must admit, I did find the lack of numbers on the beaches odd at first, and found myself wondering if it was a budget constraint, or a conscious decision to add a ‘close quarters’ feel to the movie. I suspect the latter was driven by the former, as the Ben Hur days of 20,000 extras are obviously long gone.

One day a studio will be brave/silly enough to cut the CGI and go pure old school on a mega-epic war movie. Until then, we have Captain America VIII.

Or, directors will try to eke out a bit more clever. A-la Revenant battle scene. Proabably the best use of CGI I can recall.
