Haha -i’m getting mixed messages here..

10 mins from the coast so seems daft not to try my hand.

Ro5ey – I have literally no idea what that stuff is worth, but I know how much (little) I have in my wallet. How low is too low?..

I bought the blue on one stuff, horridly thick, it settles in one spot in the tyre and doesn’t budge. Had to thin it around 50:50 with orange sealant to make it usable

Not complaining of a deflating tyre

This gave the impression that you were:

Pumped like a madman only to then examine why my jumbo Jim’s weren’t going up.. There the non tubeless ones!

    And this:

I wouldn’t put the valve stem back in (Step 7). You’ll get air in the tyre faster without it.

Always easier to inflate, or at least, seat the rims on the bead (your initial goal) with core removed. Some soapy water around edge of rim helps to pop the bead up, on troublesome tyres I somtimes add a little sealant to the tyre before adding air, helps to create a seal on the first desperate tyre dance/shake off.

    Have you actually tried one?

Just seemed weird that you complained of a tubeless tyre deflating is all. Just trying to help

Even on TL tyres, without sealant you’ll lose pressure in the event of a puncture

    Ha!
    A fine counter.
Granted, every friday/sat night I do crave a real ale and a Wispa.

Hand on heart – I won’t touch the delicious stuff until im at goal weight (or the significance of an occasion dictates that it would be incredibly rude not to) – but, in the future I will be looking into suplementing longer exercise sessions with carbs and hopefully learning the fine art of balancing intake v exertion. At least, better than i’ve practiced it in the past.

no real chemistry between the presenters, although that might develop

I’d bet a million dollars that MLB has zero interest in ‘getting to know’ his co-presenters any better. In fact, i’d also wager he’d rather pull a Clarkson and deliver a bunch of fives upon said presenters faces.

I’m a bit worried about Mat Le Blanc though. He seems to be a bit of a passenger when it comes to the studio set pieces. He’s not bad, but just needs to relax into it a bit.

He is most probably too busy imagining how he should spend his enormous fee to be worried about actually taking the series seriously.

Things brake. It’s just how it is.
Personally I wouldnt consider standing and cranking a hire bike, with its millions of user miles under its belt – i’d consider them a city bimbler.

I’d take an apology at face value and if you’re really that keen (you seem keen), follow it up to see if any retro-action is undertaken to help prevent a similar issue in the future – then put it down to a lesson learned.

It’s a hire agreement – and we all know how many people treat items that are hired.. It’s not unreasonable to assume that a previous hiree could’ve totally abused the bike and left in worse for wear on your turn.
    Hence, use with caution.

i don’t know how those particular bikes are put together but whenever i’ve neglected to tighten my cranks properly I can usually feel when something has worked loose prior to critical failure.

Why do people think low/zero carb is unsustainable?

by eating less, smarter and matching intake to exercise

Thats pretty much what I am doing. But theoretically, my metabolism could take me to Timbuktoo and back fuelled on my fat reserves – not on carbs.
What’s not to love about that?

    Eating less and losing weight?

Who said anything about less? You shouldve seen the size of the rib-eye I demoolished last night, along with lashings of cheesy broccoli.

(to be fair, appetite is surpressed to the point where you do tend to eat less than normal – it’s just not so much of a struggle)

In contrast I lost 3kg in a week by eating a bit less, laying off the midweek beers and riding more.

First week results? Water loss, exercise and less food in your gut would’ve made up most of that weight loss. Would you have lost 3kg week on week?

you either need to stick with something that may not be healthy or sustainable long term or find a balance that is.

My body couldnt be telling me any clearer, no blood sugar crashes, no crippling cravings, far reduced aches and pains, clearer skin, less tiredness and more energy.
Which part of the balance have I got wrong?

Despite the common (mostly mis-)placed concerns over Atkins – My health is undoubtedly in a better place than it was just a month ago.

The long term plan is to move off stage 1 Atkins when i’ve lost a total of 5 stone and introduce small amount of root veg and possibly dairy a la stage 2.
I’ll certainly be following a keto-diet in the long term.

gobuchul – those reports you linked on the SS Montgomery really are fascinating. The imaging on the 2014 report in particular is incredibly detailed.

I just hope that if/when it goes off, someone captures it on film..

Brakes done, grip done, gotten muddy done.

I can confirm that 40mm tyres are a MAX fitment on the Escapade (on the rear), certainly if planning to ride in muddy conditions.

I couldn’t make it past the Kazakhstan piece, it’s so painfully contrived and dull. Matt does his best but is clearly in it for the money, the other two are as likeable as Harold Shipman.

These also may be worth considering for £10 a pop. They may well be crap, but could serve as a cheap back up or something.

Incidentally, what fat tyres for mud? Sticky gloopy South Downs mud, after all these showers I’m going sideways as much as forwards at the moment on my Floaters – and it’s a matter of time before I lose the front end

OP – im probably the heaviest rider here and have been riding carbon cars for 15 years with zero problems. Stick a bit of carbon paste around the stem plate – fit and largely forget.
I dig the fact that they weigh less than a Cheryl Fernandez fart.

The On-One bars mentioned earlier are great value – I use the stiff version but I should imagine the ‘chewy’ version would serve you well for comfort.

For peace of mind watch some vids of people hitting things with carbon frames/bars etc really REALLY hard without causing any immediately noticable damage. (obvs always replace any bar after a heavy crash).

I have no actual facts but based on assumed sales percentages, i’d reckon Alu bars out-fail carbon significantly more frequently.

All RockShox did was take a Rev and make it wider – not much development there, and it’s been a solid banker for them ever since.

I hope the bubble hasn’t burst as I’d like easy access to tyres/cranks/hubs as I continue to ride one over the next 20 years.

But if I ever end up using it I’ll bear the 10% comment in mind as it’s a legitimate point.

Too right – no more tips for waiters from now on.

Excellent write up egb81. I still remember my biggest tip as a 16yo pizza delivery guy, £4.50 from a kind chap in Twickenham (£1.50 more than my hourly rate)- and I still recall the stingy regular customers that never tipped – plus the guy who pressed 10p into my palm expecting me to jump for joy.
Over 20 years later it seems you never forget those halcyon days!

2x tyres, for a bike I haven’t ridden for best part of a year, because they were cheap.
I’ve promised myself I’ll try and get round to fitting them this year.

Only 42? That would make her about 16 during her Word heyday?

Anyone remember the live Puckric interview with Beastie Boys? That was weird/fun.

I also recall her tripping over during a live feed and flashing her knickers at the camera.

For anyone contemplating Atkins/HFLC – I am now convinced on its virtues – my energy levels are up, morning aches and pains significantly reduced and even my 4 year bout of fingertip eczema (yes, fingertip) has virtually disappeared in the 2 and a bit weeks I’ve been on the plan.
I can only put this down to the ‘inflammatory reduction’ that I’ve read elsewhere is related to sugars and grains.

Sustaining higher intensity exercise is certainly a challenge, however. But the way the weight is dropping of me I should be able to counter that negative aspect within a few weeks/months.

Most people I’ve heard on it or spoken to see to have the complete opposite view

Turns out my other half really is a perfect match for me then, she reached virtually the exact same conclusions.

Interesting to read how much Ridley doubt there is out there, I really did think I was in a minority there also.
American Gangster – great soundtrack (they kind or relied on the soundtrack,no?) but I too can barely remember the plot. It’s not up there with Goodfellas/Heat/Godfathers/King of New York/Departed. Heck, I’d rate it below Donnie Brasco/Carlitos Way

    The Martian was one

I hugely disagree, the soundtrack alone was nearly enough for me to switch off.
It was a massive missed opportunity to portray sci-fi isolation in a relatively believable context, instead it felt like a jolly-up. There was almost no concept of the time scales involved. Plus having since found out that storms on Mars are fractionally as violent as portrayed kind of kills the reality for me.

I still hope Scott has some quality to offer, Bladerunner 2 will be defining for me.
