erm.. Its a 40 year old design, and it sounds really good.
You’ve listened to a well set up one?

It must be hard to accurately aim at AJ’s tiny pin head. A genuine freakish advantage.

So, somewhat unintentionally, I have ended up with 2 of the buggers..

And I can confirm that they are indeed rather bloody good.
In fact, with fairly rubbish cartridges they still sound 90% of the way towards my previous £1200 turntable.
Plus they are much more tactile in use, and look so darn good.

Picked one up fairly cheap and have fully serviced it including new lid and hinges and a good polish of the paintwork and its now looking 9/10 – so am going to sell it to fund the second one which subsequently popped up locally – a genuine 1 elderly owner in absolute mint condition. It’s a thing of beauty.

Well chuffed. Great machines. Having taken one apart to grease the tonearm height adjustment mechanism I can happily testify to their incredible build quality.
    Am converted.

Binners – couldn’t resist, bought the Tee..

Simon – currently running Neat Mytique floor standers

Rusty – have had a half an eye on DC6s for a while now..

As above, I’m going to try one out – as I can hardly lose money on one, they are seemingly a rock solid investment.

I’m lead to believe their bass response and timing is excellent, as well as the robustness factor.
I used one during an stay at an apartment in Berlin a while ago and based on tactile response alone, it was really cool to fire up and cue the record – lots of flashing lights and instant response.

Personally, I’d avoid Virginia Water and The Great Park, there are no good circuits, there are thousands of walkers on a nice day

It does get busy at peak times around the main entrance off the A30, But generally not if you venture further into the park than 99% of walkers are willing to walk, which is generally about 500 meters.. I’ve had literally dozens of wonderful rides there, particularly if you arrive in the afternoon and catch twilight, which is when the deer, owls, pheasants and even kingfishers tend to venture out to the path/lake edges.
Heading north into Windsor Great Park also takes you onto nice wide relatively secluded paths with often few other users. I’ve ran a half marathon literally within the park itself so would say there are several good circuits available via a mixture off on-off road paths.
You can escape parking fees at the main entrance by parking on Wick Lane at the extreme lower east gated entrance (which would start you off on the best wooded off road section) or there’s other entrances to the North east (saville garden) and north west where you can usually find a pace to park on the public road.

If you like good views and things to stop and look at it’s one of the best parks in the London area IMO, a man made waterfall, woodlands, gardens, huge totem pole, ancient roman ruins, royal polo, Windsor castle (via the long walk) and even an adventure playground. Not to mention the stunning lake itself.
Great place to hang out for a few hours.
If you get up to the horse statue at the far end of the long walk, the view to Windsor castle is fantastic, and you can look across to the London skyline, and on a good day make out the Wembley arch.

For a 4yo rider, there’s plenty of scope for fun.

I used to run around Eton Dorney, a nice location.
Or if you prefer to head east, Epping Forrest. Often see Grayson Perry riding his mtb there. Loads of good trails and mainly flat.

Or potentially Virginia Water near Wentworth/Ascot – mainly pathways but incredibly scenic and can be easily extended into windsor great park.

So how do I overcome the ‘want’ of a Jimny over the ‘need’?

Vitara or other soft 4×4 may well suit me better, but I find myself, convincing..myself.. that the green lanes and hilly roads around my house dictate that the 95% normal road driving i’d be doing be overlooked.

Curse that cute little bastard Suzuki.

yeah, the stig dialogue is just plain stupid – nowhere near enough time has passed to develop that kind of phrasing among a group.

Yeah, but, that daft ‘king’ shouting
”Alexandria shall not fall on this day! huzzah!”

    I mean c’mon..

Did anyone else notice Daryls fancy rail gun (or whatever is was) completely changing in firing sound between action scenes?

As with most shows I watch out of interest of where/how the story meets its conclusion – but I tend to agree that the budget constraints and plodding nature are getting a bit long in the tooth.

I really want to see Rick grow a bigger pair and the group to spread their wings a bit. Sitting around in Alexandria cowering is d.u.l.l.
I get that Negan holds (held?) the power trip cards, but the show is sorely missing in tactical assaults/booby traps. and Zombies.

Still, at least Sasha’s dead. Been holding out for that one for years.

And whats with Jesus? He arrived as a stealth ninja dude with an interesting personality, now he just hangs around in living rooms looking a bit trampy.

IMO – they need to jump forward in time about 5-10 years – to give a real perspective of how their fragile society has changed, how the younger kids developed, and if the ‘Z’ situation ever eases.
Adding contact with another country wouldn’t hurt either.

Mind you, If I see another car started up on first attempt after a 4/5/6 year standing period.. I may just declare poppycock.

5000 miles per year? I’d have a V8! Fill yer boots

Great advice above, thanks guys. Glad to hear it’s a popular choice despite its road manners. Surely the sign of a good (off road) car

Going to list in the classifieds.

Nice paint job on that APB.

Just picked up a Raleigh RSW Compact – their daft little folding answer to the Moulton, looking forward to first ride on 2″ ‘balloon tyres’, and clown bike comments from members of public.

Still, if its good enough for Ringo, its good enough for me

So, without hanging around im collecting a local Kingpin this evening after work, and a Twenty tomorrow morning.
Pocket money biking, and smart old bikes to boot. Will be used for family and friends as a great retro scenic tourer for sunny rides to the local brewery/sea front.

Just need a RSW16 and Moulton F to finish the collection..

ontor – I meant to check the Dawes Kingpin out – they really are close to the Twenty design arent they – what was different about the tubing?
Also, the folding mechanism is much smaller – do you know if it is as rigid an interface as the Raleigh version?

I feel a collection coming on.

I’m enjoying the stories, alas, i’m also concerned about the regular mentioning of fork strength issues – imagine doing the stairs test 40 years later, weighing twice as much.
Visions of swallows and amazons whilst freewheeling along a sunny stretch of river – before my front teeth and face suddenly interface with the gravel path.
    Shudders.

fortunately I am not a moultaineer (yet), so I am immune to the bitter rivalry. You geek.

The stow-away Twenty is looking like a fine ‘what the heck’ choice for N+1 – but ill be darned if ill pass up a cheap RSW16 or Moulton Classic in the meantime..

Anyone experienced the ‘rival’ Raleigh RSW ?

The 16s look fun, but from what I can source the 20 is a far better bike.

Io do like the look of the Bridgestone.

so how does that front fork work? I havent found a resource yet. Some sort of rubber/elastomer sandwich?

Being a bit of a lump myself, am I putting my life at considerable risk if riding one? I’ve read a few ‘welding failure’ stories so far..

Don’t get me wrong, Damon is usually watchable and the story is very good (hence great book reviews I suppose) but the shower of shit movie completely detached itself from the theme of sheer isolation and desperation and became a (shit) disco soundtracked Hollywood tug fest. Major pacing issues.
It was basically Cast Away in Space – yet Ridley Scott took no cues as to how to deliver such a time scape

Isn’t “Nip” just a truncation of “Nippon”?

Interesting, and as Britons don’t mind being referred to as Brits, are Nippons offended by Nip?
    Confused.
Must be a context thing again.

Apologies aracer – I didn’t have enough context to hand.

It falls in the ‘if you have to ask’ category for me – but I do wonder about national identity tags in general.

    Is kraut derogatory?
    Yank?
    Saffa?
    Jap?

In many cases the word yank or kraut could be used in a derogatory statement, i.e., ‘trust the bloodys yanks to commit friendly fire’ – yet unless I’m mistaken, Yank is a commonly used inoffensive term amongst American people and the rest of the world, used to shorthand ‘american’
Are single syllable monikers somehow immune?

It’s fascinating to me that there are so many acceptable shorthands amongst a few dubious ones that no-one seems to be certain about.

The weirdest one for me is ****, which the English managed to recycle as a derogatory term – yet Pakistani’s regularly refer to themselves as ****’s without any negative connotation attached, and rightly so – it being an abrivieation of ‘Pakistan’
I feel a little joy every time I see Pakistani cricket fans holding up placards stating ‘**** Power!’

Bit more old school/obscure… but try:

    Silent Running (Bruce Dern)
    Zardoz (Sean Connery)
    Starman (Jeff Bridges)
    Saturn 3 (Kirk Douglas)

Question: do zombie movies count as sci-fi?

My understanding is that breath stink comes from the acidic by product of burning fat cells.
I’ve been in keto for around 6 weeks and monitoring protein intake fairly carefully. My breath smells.

Anyone interested in a 30T Cinch oval chain ring for their fatbike? Its an Absolute Black one (albeit, green) thats covered no more than 25 miles.

I’ve gone smaller, most of my uphill rides are against the wind so I need all the help I can get!
