Can anyone recommend a campsite to stay at?

Slightly further afield is: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1593 Washington.

15/20mins drive to Stanmer, plus Steyning MTB trails a short ride away..(if BBD doesn’t give you your fill).

The Acor ones were available around £90 a pair a while back, were they not?

funny you should say that, Gravity Droppers have never appealed more. Had a search earlier but struggling to find a 27.2 at the mo.

yes, I just realised that my previous comment was a complete lie.
    Search game stepped-up, knowledge imported.

    Thanks for the link.

I can’t get it to lower all the way even with max bum pressure.

    hmm, what lube you using?

HA! You’re not fooling me. I’ve ridden in Cirencester area before, it was MOUNTAINOUS! (at least, that one particular hill climb was, hilly).

Don’t think I’ve ever paid more than £55 for a mint 2nd hand one – all have been utterly reliable* and blingtastic.

New (to me ) bike has a Hope fitted. I like their pick’n’mix approach, but I do find their machining a bit…chunky.

*one did cut into a steerer.

Yeah, I ran Guide RSC’s which felt lovely with globs of modulation, but there’s something very satisfying about that Shimano ‘bang! brakes on!!’ feel.

ooh, i’ll give that a go.

good to hear, and I concur, set up is easier than ever on most systems these days.

But ive read too many negative reports about brake reliability on M8000 for it to not be an issue. In fact, some magazine reviews just state that they cannot recommend them for the amount of trouble they’ve had (including XTR).

Conversly, just bled my M785s last week – despite the required old school bleed nipple tweak it was an absolute doddle.

I hunted far and wide for anything other than Hope/Stans, and at the 11th hour came across Easton Heists (same rim as the Arcs) at CRC with a huge discount .
I went for 27s (they offer 24mm / 27mm / 30mm internal width) and they give my Ardents a great shape.
Spare spokes included (one length fits both sides of hub), plus spare end caps for QR or Thru axle duty.
Under £200 for the pair at discounted rate, lighter than Hope/Stans, taped and ready to run tubeless, and look the absolute tits.
I did have to splash an extra £50 for the Shimano freehub (was £99, rip-off!), but at least I have the XD driver spare for when I ever make the switch to 12sp.

Pretty sure they had some boost sizes left last week…

If you do happen to go for them, they are also selling full replacement graphics sets for £2.99 (were £25!)

RE forks, the most bomb-proof reliable and solid performers i’ve had have always been RockShox – dabbled with older Fox’s but they did seem more fiddly and fragile.

Just about to receive a new Fox 29er though, so keen to see how the new Fit4 damper fairs.
TBF, im a heavy rider so I loose most of the small bump sensitivity you guys are used too – I suspect Fox would win here if I were able to set up at lower pressures.

I’ve run both over the last 20 years, several times.

Enjoyed the initial rapid-fire-shotgun-feel of the earlier SRAM gear, and haven’t felt the sublime ‘organic’ Shimano feel for years – probably since M739 / M950!

Now running a Saint/Zee/Sunrace 1×10 set up on recommendation. Sure, the shifter is nice, but I wish I could make every shift have that super slick ‘ooh that was so smooth I didnt even feel it changing’ shift on every attempt – but I’d guess that’s only 1 or 2 out of every 10 shifts I make.

Sad to see the negativity towards M8000, if they’d taken M785 and moved it forward it would be brilliant, instead, it seems they’ve taken 2 steps back.

SRAM X01 was very nice, and light, but I couldnt possibly justify it again over a cheaper 1×10 or possibly other 1×11 system.

My next move will likely be towards NX. 12sp does seem interesting too.

Long time Stans user – recently switched to Orange, which seems on a par. Then tried going cheap with the blue stuff from PX, which is so thick that it seems unable to reach the punctures in time – so watered it down 50/50 with Orange and seems ok since.

If I could find a bulk Stans supply at a cheap enough price id happily switch back.
Although, recently acquired liquid latex may shortly meet with glitter in home-brew-experiment.

checking in so I can record these recommendations.
I plumped for a small tube of Slick Honey a while back, which does seem rather good in use – but i’d happily try a cheaper/easier to source alternative for future.

    NONAGON INFINITY OPENS THE DOOR!!

the video for rattlesnake is just brilliant.
As is Gamma Knife for that matter. And People Vultures.

I’ll never understand the ‘they just sound like older bands’ argument. Surely that’s a good thing?, More material to enjoy, and no need to be whinging about nothing sounding good any more?!

It’s the driving pace that catches me, took me several attempts at first and suddenly it seemed to just ‘click’.
It’s like you need to warm up before being able to focus – and then its hard to turn them off

citric acid. pour some on offending parts for bleaching effect.

orange juice first, if that not cutting it then try something more radical, like a kumquat – just be careful not to splash it all over the bits you werent aiming for.

Lots of negative reviews regarding latest XT/XTR reliability unfortunately.
It seems that they cracked it on previous gen, only to add a splash of ‘Avid’ this time around

Agreed, traded an Elicit R for the PM6006, as I really struggled to difinitively tell you where the extra £1400 was going..

Tempted to try Hope but not sure I can fully buy into the Robocop looks – they look fab on some builds but a bit OTT on others.
Plus, the brake review listed above has them down as one of the weaker performers in terms of outright power.
I’m looking for the best stoppers, with least chance of fade (and easy bleed/pad adjustment), and ive read one too many ‘meh’ reports over the Hope performance for me to want to take the plunge..

Trouble is, most of you guys are whippets – and have no real ideal idea how hard a brake has to work when controlling a lard ass anchored and sustained decent :)

    Bowers CM5s.
Best sound i’ve ever had, even when being driven from my modest Marantz PM6006. In fact, I recently sold my ‘keepers’ (NEAT Mystiques) on the strength of the CM5s being so darned good.

I used to live next door, got on really well with the owner (Simon) – who is also a hi-fi nut.

Good range of stock, and often lends tools/advice to those in need. Long may indy shops like this exist.

thanks for the feedback – at the moment im looking at picking up either a set of MT Trails, or possibly MT5’s (can’t justify the extra money for MT7s), or potentially the Guide RE – supposedly designed for stopping the extra heft of an e-bike – so should work well with the extra heft of me.

Has some great moments on it but my tastes evolved over the years
