have you tried running in vests?

I tend to overheat in anything other than vests during this time of year.

ever cranked out of the saddle on a thin tubed Ti frame? If so you would have noticed it wobbling away between your legs (the frame that is).

I would bet a billion million dollars I could fold a Ti cassette ring before a steel one.

    a) it was bought from ebay – expect most of your ‘rights’ to be relinquished right there

    b) its made of Ti. Ti is soft as cheese.

but in reality i probably wouldn’t use it as CRC are generally more expensive than many other places even with £10 off.

    no they’re not?

If you like Marmite, and happen to like the spice of a proper spicy chilli, then you’ll love this stuff:

I spread it over just about everything..

theres a bit more to it than that crikey.

    winter usually means copious mud

summer usually (should) mean dry hard pack

many tires react very differerntly on these surfaces

I’ve found the D’arcs a bit tight on the sides, and the flat line along the top looks a bit daft on round heads.

Charlie, ill be putting an order in for the same forks in the next 24hrs…hoping you still have the green disc only version available?…

Gutted I couldn’t make your open day BTW, really wanted to try a few rigs out, especially as they were mostly all in the best size (56cm!).

what’s the deal with the green WI trials freewheel? more pawls for more instant take up or something?
is there a reason this would be a bad thing on MTB?
not much that I can think of..

I’m unfit and I rode Swinley on 38-17 and could have gone harder if I’d had a 16 cog!

you’re probably the guy that flew past me on my geared bike and made me realise what a wimp I must be!

thanks Simon, im asking so many questions as I really didn’t get on with s/s when I tried it before and this time I want to persevere and see if a can get into it.

I have a local trail which should be no trouble, but if I head somewhere like swinley forest then im hoping I can take all my usual trails on without getting frustrated by having to stop up hill

    slimjim78

It’s not always as simple as that… Sometimes a bigger gear is easier up a steep climb if you can maintain more pace

So when training for s/s, what should my aim be, to ride flat out in order to keep momentum up, or to mash out the climbs and build up my quads? or both?

    slimjim78
    Free Member

    I ride 32:17 because I’m more niche.

What I really want to know is, do you still conquer every hill?
Or is it not realistic to expect to be able to climb everything unless you want to spin out like Roadrunner on the flats?

I think ive got a 16t and 17t free wheel to play with so keen to see how they both feel.

Once i’m happy with my selection im rather interested in purchasing a White Industries free wheel, or does anyone suggest otherwise?

    Used 34:18 for a while before 32:18

What would the equivalent rear cog size be to replicate 34:18 with a 32t chain ring?

To all above, how often are you defeated by a hill on a 32:16/17/18 ratio, or should I expect to still get up everything?

Im worried about spinning out on the flats if using a ratio I can realistically climb on. Is it literally a case of learning to spin a whole lot faster than used to?

    @crikey,

you’re missing an important point. CTBM is a specialist shop, run by a genuine enthusiast who loves cycling/singlespeeding and anything bikes.
Without independent shops like his the cycling community would be a MUCH poorer place.
If we all took your attitude then we would all end up riding Specializedzzzz with matching gloves/lids/you name its.

IMO Charlie can advertise (read: send free stuff) as much as he damn well likes.
IYO, just what should the promotional stickers read? ”come to my bike shop”? ”we all like bikes alot”?
No, they need to raise a smile and show that we dont all take life too seriously.
They are perfect promotional ideas. Of course we wont all like them slogans (thats life), but why bother telling everyone that you think they are crap ?(unless your life is that crap?).

Besides, you need something to stock on your tool box..

    Long live CTBM.

Occasionally the the is incorrectly capitalised: ‘the Netherlands’ is similar to names such as ‘the United States’ and ‘the Federal Republic of Germany’, so the ‘t’ should not be capitalised except at the beginning of a sentence

That bit has just blown me away. I can refer to the United States with a small ‘t’?. awesome.
I wish I concentrated more during english lessons, hang on, I got an A for GCSE..

We do have Frisian cows – named after Friesland – the dutch province

and thank God for them – bringing milk to the masses! Fab breed that we would have struggled without.

Because, generally, the British are ignorant of other countries and cultures!

Im not sure that is the case, in this case. Or in general really, im sure a lot of other countries patriots have the same misgivings.

It upsets me a bit when I see things like that written as I feel the British are more open to other countries and cultures than pretty much any other place on Earth.
Sure, we have a large working class doing their best to discredit the rest of us on the costa-del-whateva, but for the educated half of Britain – I dont think you speak for them.

didnt want to Google as im at work and would rather catch a sneaky peek at your replies. Plus I like the reply based method on here.

My missus is Dutch and she’s from the Netherlands, as opposed to Holland (she’s from the province of Limburg). So, in a way, saying she is from Holland is like saying a Scotsman is from England.

So why do the public generally all refer to Holland and why are we not aware of the other provinces?

Well, except that “Holland” is simply the (an alternative) English word for “Nederland”

Is that a fact? In which case, it would help explain why I think of people from Netherlands as coming from Holland.

So when we play football against Holland, the rest of the world watches England play The Netherlands? but the BBC refuse to admit it?

supertramp – dont really have an issue with that either. I would just ecpect it to happen less often as we all know men tend to age a bit… better?

Unless you really want to have kids, then what the hell? right?
