Ive had beans, eggs, lemonade, and piss thrown at me.

Also had coins thrown at me whilst jogging recently (one cut my chest).

Makes me think the homeless should be exercising more.

so its confirmed. an air cannister/cylinder can produce enough PSI to shear the metal barrel/lock, without any real sign of recoil.

    I love physics me.

    it does not work.

I struggle to understand how the captive bolt could break the lock free from its mount and clean across the room without considereable recoil as it strikes the surface of the lock?

I think they look great and from what ive heard the VRs goes like stink and is great to drive.
I thoroughly recommend a test drive as it will probably sell itself to you.
Tons of room in the boot too, great for bikes.

+100 kudos points if you buy one.

Great replies chaps, and lots to mull over.
FishD – you are a gent and thats just the stuff I was after, I shall drop you a line if I decide to take things further.

im happy to give up creature comforts for the pure rugged iconicity!
Im mainly keen to know if it’ll end up breaking the bank as filling up at the pumps is akin to pulling teeth for me..
And knowing a bit more about the various models is essential before I dive in – so thanks again for the links.

Looks like 300tdi is the way forward though.

thanks again chaps, lots of options to weigh up.

Ive just come into a small inheritance so have some time to think about the perfect upgrade from my current car.
Also fighting the temptation to let the heart rule the head and buy something ive always fancied over something more practical!…

Landy Defender anyone? (gonna have to start a thread on these to guage opinion)..

the ‘miles per tank’ question is probably a bit of a red herring but dont get too worked up about it eh?

Its nice to know that your car will reach a milestone figure (say 500 or 600 miles) every tank full for a bit of added convenience, and most tanks fall within the 50 to 60 litre range.

Ive had thirsty engines that would only give 300 to 350 miles max per tank full and it can be a PITA.

Very happy with some of your suggestions thank guys, I will check out some of the cavernous boot options mentioned for sure (Accord Estate sounds good). Im also keen to take a closer look at the Passat estate again, might tick the boxes I was looking for, including VW.

series one multipla JTD, you dont get more boxey than that. unless its a box

I love them…wife will divorce me though  , hang on a minute..

    how about an A4 estate

will take a look, especially if the boot is bigger than a golf

    Focus estate?

Used to have a focus, but the estates make my eyes puke

    1.6 HDI berlingo ….

probably not as daft an option as some might think..might look into it

+2 For Mondeo estate. 50mpg and 600miles to the tank

Havent looked at Mundaneo’s for a while, might have a butchers at one. Tend to prefer the build of a german car but you never know.

    Renault Megane estate

I love the look of the hatch, a colleague has the estate and it doesnt float my boat but ill ask him if I can take a closer look.
Ive heard horror stories about Renault service costs though..

Second Honda Accord estate. Mahoosive inside, although 500 miles to a tank full is more realistic for real world driving.

Very interesting proposition, what are 2nd hand values like in comparison?

Get another Golf. Our A3 will bring back 55mpg if my wife is driving it and that’s the 150bhp version. The boot is a joke though

Is the boot that bad? Im prepared to drop the seats when carting bikes around. The boot in my Mk3 golf has been fine for me.

Funky old school Jeep Cherokee with LPG conversion?
    I’ve got one of those

Kudos to you, they are fab looking cars. Always wanted one, dont think my wallet can take the weekly bashing though :(
How do you find it for lumbering gear around?
I wonder what mileage the 2.5TD would give if run on chip fat?…

    dont buy it?

theres lots of import VW’s which dont always add up and/or have different specs.

salesmen will tell you whatever they can to secure a deal, and theres always another deal to be had elsewhere

he means youll have to lug around battery packs and cables.

troute are very neat, but still fiddly in the long run. Plus not that much more bang for buck.
Id be amazed if anyone genuinely wanted more light after firing up a 6Pack or MaxxD, Toro’s have more than enough for most users at 900lumens and last for hours

    slimjim78

IMO I dont think Exposure can be beaten for simplicity or compactness, its a big plus being cable free.
My Toro has plenty of light for pitch black trails and lasts ages on Med setting, coupled with a Joystick or Diablo on your lid you are laughing.
If I were to look anywhere else id go Trout.

Oh, and upper arm is a piece of cake, like above, inner elbow and elbow burns like fire.
I also seem to remember collar bone hurting. Its all bearable but takes concentration to get through long sessions, I used to be mentally knackered after getting in from a 3 hour sit.
First 4 or 5 sessions were great but after that it becomes a chore so having a break for a year or two to get the buzz back

hang on hang on, last night I was out on some gnarly singletrack, wearing shorts..and I got stung on my left leg by some nettles that I couldnt avoid.
I fought through the pain and carried on regardless.

past a gang of yoofs at college years ago
”im gonna spark him up with my comb!”

pissed myself laughing at the time (the accent had to be heard to be believed). Turns out a ‘comb’ is a knife, and to ‘spark’ someone is to stab them..

I strapped mine together with twigs and shoe laces and finished the 10ft drop off before riding 50 miles to the A&E when I did my collar bone.

Couldnt be bothered to wait so ended up using the receptionists staple gun to hold it together and went for a curry instead.
