Kinesis crosslight v3’s are supposed to be pretty light at a claimed 1560g
Cheapest I could see on line are £235

Google search comes up with quite a few options on where to get them from.

    Thanks all

That pretty much answers my question … all parts would be shimano … don’t want to venture into the campag world.

    sudocrem is my choice …
was sore after the SDW on Saturday but absolutely fine now … good stuff.

Thanks everyone for the help & advice.

Sorted it now … managed to get a set of TRP V brakes … not quite the retro look of the canti’s but infinitely better brakes and no fork judder from the EC90’s at all … amazing!

    Thanks Tom

Wasn’t sure … It doesn’t seem to have a wide enough swing for 3 chainrings!

I’m going to give it a trial first … I live in Swindon so if the mrs drops me off on the Ridgeway near Reading it’s about 50 miles home.

I know the Ridgeway is nowhere near as harsh as the SDW … but will give me some idea of what it’s like.

I’d like to be able to ‘ride light’ and ‘float, zen-like ‘ above the saddle … but at 13st it aint appnin

It’s funny how you get into these things though … I’ve spent less and less time on my hardtail thinking … I can do that on a cx.
That way its a completely different experience than just ‘slightly different’ than my 120mm full suss.

Thanks everyone … looking at the advice above perhaps 100 on the CX is too much.

I’d love to try it but maybe start with something shorter.

Looks like it’s the full suss again then and a midnight finish!

    pawsy_bear … yep, checked that and its good’n’tight …

DezB …… noooooooooooooooo … that means I would have to ditch the EC90X’s and all their carbon loveliness  …. can’t do that …. they look so nice!

mini v’s may be the only option …
just looked at my fork and it’s not drilled to take a fork mounted hanger

    :-(

    Ahh …. I see

It has one of those … inverted and coming down from just under the stem.

So if I was to get rid of that one and fit a fork mounted one lower down would that sort it?

Also … would normal brakes rather than canti’s work … bit reluctant to do that though cos I like the old canti’s

Good to know …. I’m not worried about the tricross itself or the forks as they’re EC90X’s … just the wheels really.

I’ve just got some 35mm conti cx tyres so hopefully they will be fine.

    Thanks all

    Cheers everyone … Interesting points

I suppose I don’t use the drop section cos I mainly ride solo so no drafting required … And coming from mtb it just feels a bit cramped. I get the aerodynamics reasoning but as my rides are not competitive, just charity type sportives then not really going for fast times etc…. It’s just that when climbing I find myself pulling on the shifters like bar ends and similar when just cruising ….. Probably doing it all wrong

Thanks everyone … monksie, do you have either one of your previous routes that I could take a look at please?

I think we’ll probably do North to South but any info would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

    NO to bar ends?
They might look a bit crap on an mtb(or any bike for that matter) but 100 miles with your hands in exactly the same position can be painful … They change the position of your back slightly as well … Every little helps!

If you want some … I have a spare pair somewhere … Send me your address and I’ll post them if your interested.

Ride looks good … Hope it goes well

Hmm by the sound of it 3-4 days might be pushing it but I was taking my info from a post I saw on cyclistno1.co.uk … 4 friends did it over 4 days. We’ve done a few long distance day rides. Hearts 1st southwest randonee and South downs way … So used to 12hr riding days … But I suppose this is 4 in a row!

Thanks for the advice though … If we do manage it, I’ll post up a report …

    zippykona …

That sound like a good shout.

I’ll do a bit more digging today and if I can’t buy just the valve I’ll see where is the cheapest place for the kit.

no … the whole lot spanned off so I ‘m pretty sure just the schrader valve core wont do the trick as then the shock pump has nothing to screw onto … need something like this but everyone seems to be out of stock

MB Swindon have made a great trail with lots of features and variation in a relatively compact space. It holds up to the bad weather really well and is great fun if you just want to get out for an afternoon and enjoy your bike without travelling for miles … well, for me anyway as I’m in Swindon.

    Thanks MB Swindon :D

    These:-

    http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=60&products_id=436

really comfy on a long ride due to being 34mm diameter and 150mm wide

Take your time packing the bike in properly … especially on the way back when you might be a bit more rushed and knackered. Rear cassette needs padding/wrapping as it can cause quite a bit of damage if it makes its way towards your downtube …

    I used to use them.

I sent some wheels that ended up damaged … their communication was crap and I had just a 4 day turn around to get photos of the damage from the recipient before my claim expired … I didn’t get them in time from him and ended up having to send a refund with no way of claiming back my money.
I tried several times to reason with them but despite using them many times they didn’t want to know.

So … a crap experience really and I don’t use them any more.

I’m gonna join in cos the weather is shite!… I didn’t ride it to there … I had to cross it as a short cut on the south coast path!

just noticed the dodgy horizon … what a crap photographer

I’ve got a Bell Super … my head does go to the top so fits nice and snug. Used to have a Giro Xen, also a great fit.
I like the Bell coverage but I did find my jacket collar hit the bottom of the helmet at the back which was a bit irritating … This was climbing the new trail at Cwmcarn so after a short while I was so knackered I didn’t notice!
I do have a short neck though.

Did you loosen the adjuster at the back to let it down then tighten it up so it grips well?

    Hi Dave

I’ve just bought some of these … not tried them yet but Bikeradar scored them 4/5
and at £14 ish each an absolute bargain

Did Cafall today … hissing down most of the way … even turned to sleet for a couple of min at the top …. VERY gloopy, especially towards the top. I cant’t see it drying out too much for the weekend and it was very hard going at times. I can imagine it being fantastic in the decent weather and a bit less mud.

Decents would have been a bit more fun if my bars didn’t keep rotating due to a loose faceplate. They ended up upside down at one stage braking at one of the downhill switchbacks so took it very steady after that.
You can see its going to be brilliant and makes Cwmcarn a real all day destination.

haggis1978 … thats a really useful link … like the look of those Red Kite events

CheezybeanZ … looked at that but watched a vid of the event and it just looks like fire roads around FoD … unless I’m missing something?
