My guess is that if some medical professionals are not following the guidelines, knowing the risks involved, they would be confident their guests are also virus free.
So please read @convert post again. It’s about managing the spread and influx into the healthcare system.
You may of course briefly stamp your feet and shout ‘it’s not fair!’. No, it isn’t.
But it does help the divide and conquer approach to governing society and along with biometric tags and smartphone tracking, the curtain twitchers will be an invaluable back up.
slackaliceFree MemberI received an email from STW earlier today informing me I had a pm from someone I don’t know.
Opened safari on the ipad (6th gen, 13.3.1) went to STW, logged in. No new mail icon by the envelope on the top bar.
Clicked on envelope, “oops page not…”
Clicked on my username and both ‘Profile’ and ’Account’ are lighter font. Clicking on them and a page appears with nothing on it but a box and my name, not username. Funnily enough, it’s my very original username from before the hack.
Can’t view any forum posts created or replied to, de nada, nuttin’.
Logged out. Checked the email to be sure it came from STW, or at least, as sure as I could be and clicked the link contained in the email. I was transported to the log in page and did so. Still no sign of the pm, or anything in my profile acc…
Wassup please? Maybe I’ll send this to tech@ too. Four day holiday now though, so maybe it’s not just me? Or is it?!
TIA
slackaliceFree MemberCracking mix! I spent Sunday afternoon listening to it whilst sunning myself in the garden building my zombie apocalypse log store 😁
The normally quiet lane is now being used by people who are clearly not very local for their daily exercise and it was good to see their walking tempo tune in to the bass 😎
slackaliceFree MemberCourses for horses. Or horses for courses, possibly both. In equine terms of course 😉
Not to worry OP, that new human being arrival will curtail your ponderings on such matters as bicycle geometry 😁
slackaliceFree MemberIt’ll be interesting to see what personal information is worth mining in the forthcoming new normal.
So I think I’ll crack on with my ‘web cam’ venture using zoom 🤪
slackaliceFree Memberany of you putting the boot in care to address why you didn’t on this aspect
That’s been covered up there ^^^ by @nuke but to regard my open question of whether it casts any doubt over the official line of ‘stay at home, do not leave unless blah blah blah’ as: ‘putting the boot in’, is, IMHO, a tad exaggerated.
Or am I, like you, being a little bit delicate? 😉
slackaliceFree MemberFor any Chief Medical Officer or anyone who is supposedly more in the know than the commoners, does it not create a flicker of doubt in the official line?
slackaliceFree MemberRelevancy – 10%
Use of caps lock – 0%
Whataboutery – 75%
Incoherence – 90%Thank you, that made me laugh.
+1 😆
slackaliceFree MemberThe large-ish estate and associated farm is operational and busy time of the year, so I’m thankful I’m still able to work.
slackaliceFree MemberIf I were to use an analogy using medieval instruments of torture, I’d wager that the thumbscrew on society have been thrown away and were now on the rack.
Yet, it appears that there are swathes of people who still must think this will be over by Whitsun Bank Holiday and everything will swing back to normal.
The increase in online sales is quite staggering, was all this money under mattresses? It certainly wasn’t in savings accounts. Well, I suppose we can rest easy knowing that despite the actuality of restricted liberties and the portent of death, the financiers and lenders are offering immediate credit card limit increases and preferential ‘corona’ interest rates for personal and business loans.
All for something that requires total faith and belief for it to be real. Along with the omnipotent human being, one of the greatest scams in, dare I say, human history.
slackaliceFree MemberMy theory is that it’s all about finding an identity. When we’re young, we have no clue as to who or what we are and there was a period of time in the late 20thC for a few generations to identify with fashion. In doing so, it enabled young people to have guidelines as to how they interacted with their world.
Nowadays, I get the impression that young people are gaining this through gender status. They have 76 from which to choose, which is quite a few more than we had in the 1970’s 😉
slackaliceFree MemberOkay, I’ll be the first to suggest that as a novice chainsaw user, save the potential use of nhs resources and stop!
Book yourself on a two day Crosscut and chainsaw maintenance course (may not be as totally applicable for an electric saw, but..), there you will learn how to keep your chain sharp and safe and you will also learn the limb and potentially life saving methods for using the tool correctly.
I know, I know, but this is STW.
slackaliceFree MemberThe Electric Age.
In much the same way the Stone and Iron Age were how those resources influenced the ‘growth’ of humankind.
Imagine your life without electricity. Sobering thought eh?
slackaliceFree MemberWhy on earth would anyone want to buy a property now?! The financial system is on its knees and in a few months’ time, when the masses finally work out how much of an illusion and con it is, the relative values will be meaningless. Possession being nine tenths of the law.
Sit tight, it looks like the emergency legislation is being brought in to protect exactly this sort of arsehole behaviour by landlords.
slackaliceFree MemberThat looks sweet 😎 Let down only by the moss in your pavours and the fence requiring some love.
I’m not expecting either of those to be attended to with your new arrival demanding attention 😉
slackaliceFree MemberMother of Dragons for the no mercy approach
and/or Jon Snore (Snow)
slackaliceFree MemberWood and bikes, bikes and wood. I’ll let the lack of boats go, because that is a top top shout.
Excellent +1
slackaliceFree MemberMy understanding is the pull ratio’s of the 10 & 11 speed shifters are different, along with the distance between the cogs on the cassette, chain width and the linear movement of the rear mech… Which boils down to it running out of alignment after a few gear changes and being a sod to set up.
Anecdotal evidence above would suggest it does work, however my feeling is that was more luck than judgement. Can you get a goat link for your current 10 speed mech along with a longer B screw?
EDIT: If you need the gear range for the type of riding you do, why are you reducing the range by going 1x? There was a time when fashion dictated 150mm stems and 300mm wide bars…
slackaliceFree MemberIt’s always been the case with private sales of ‘sold as seen’ written clearly on the receipt. Not sure why that would be any different nowadays. Buyer beware 😁
slackaliceFree MemberI assume sponsors don’t have to pay teams when races are cancelled.
Is it not more a case of will sponsors be able to pay the teams?
slackaliceFree MemberWow! I can almost smell the fear.
What if…. it continues to mutate until we are all killed to death?
slackaliceFree MemberWhoa there OP!
Not sure why you’re taking out your frustration on here, except that you’re likely feeling a tad pissed off that you’ve received a fine for an oversight on your part.
Have you returned to the car park to read their parking t’s & c’s? I strongly suggest you do because generally, despite what the internet may or may not say, your legal position is entrenched with whatever those terms stipulate and if that means you over ran your parking time, or didn’t pay at all because you thought /hoped you’d get away with it, then my suggestion is to pay the fine, especially if you have a 14 day discounted fine period.
The ex Mrs Slack didn’t pay a parking fine ( well, two as it turns out) on the same principles as you, ignored all the letters and ended up with two CCJ’s and bailiffs knocking at the door. Admittedly, the car park owners in question were NCP, however, even the smaller parking companies are now being quite resilient in their chasing for what they deem as freeloaders.
Alternatively, you could try tossing them the £1 that you have valued their service at and see how that pans out.
slackaliceFree MemberWithout any pesky controls like the gold standard, anything, yes anything, is possible…
slackaliceFree Member300 quid for a pair of work boots?! 😳
I wear work boots 6 days a week and my go-to and comfy Buckler Hybridz last me just about a year before the sole wears through.
I take it these Haix booties are like walking on pillows and will last 4 years of continual use?
Ah, thought not.
slackaliceFree MemberDeWalt is just Black & Decker in fancy packaging.
Possibly for the cheapy Screwfix/Toolstation offers that abound, however their top professional XR range holds up along with the other big brand professional kit and in the case of their 18v combi drill, is far more capable than them all. There are a couple of blokes from Australia who do reviews on YouTube and their assessment of it was top choice. You pays yer money and you take yer choice, as they say.
I earn my living using tools.
slackaliceFree MemberI’ve not used diy shutters, so can’t help you there. When I’ve been tasked with supply and fit of shutters I’ve either made them or got a friendly joiner to make them.
I’ve also refitted plenty of shutters that were removed because the windows needed repair or replacement.
As for fitting, how are you with shooting in and hanging doors? Or more precisely, double doors with a rebate?
If you’re good on that activity, you’ll enjoy fitting shutters. If not, then I suggest you find somewhere, something to practise with first.
slackaliceFree MemberI plan to have a Deathday. I have a Birthday, I’ll just have another day at the end, except it’ll be a one off. There are certain conditions which are both necessary and sufficient to deem when I’ll have my deathday.
I would very much like the choice as to what I use to celebrate this day, unfortunately my choices are limited.
This needs to change, there’s only so much insulin or gbl/ghb one can stockpile.
slackaliceFree MemberIANAP
If they have replaced radiators and the flow and return copper pipes leading to and from each radiator, they would have had to have drained the system. If they just replaced the rads, then it’s possible to remove without too much water loss by closing the lock shield and trv, although that way is prone to risk of blackened radiator/heating system loop water escaping all over your beige carpets. Not a good look.
I would imagine they used water pressure via the filling loop to refill and flush the system, with the water draining via the hose connected to the lowest radiator.
You say they opened the filling loop ‘a bit’. Time wise? Or just cracked the tap open a bit?
Did you observe the water being discharged from the hose drain?
Either way, probably best to trust them, perhaps ask what inhibitor they will be adding.
slackaliceFree MemberHas anyone checked to see if there’s a **** off asteroid on its way?
Squirrel!
slackaliceFree MemberLast year I received a recall notice to replace the tailgate struts on my 58 plate Mazda 6 estate. Naturally, I booked the car in to my nearest Mazda dealer who did the work and another recall for the drivers seat subframe replacement while I waited.
Exceptional after care service, especially as I bought the car the year before and not the original owner from new.
My point being, perhaps check to see if there is a manufacturer recall for your make and model for your tailgate struts.
slackaliceFree MemberBob on with the Dolly Sprint 😁 Great driving position, entertaining cornering or roundabouts in the wet and the engine needed a few not so subtle mods to keep it running 😉
@lionheart – I’m going Lotus 7?slackaliceFree MemberThem things.
It’s ‘those’. Those things.
I can no longer be arsed to ‘reach out’ to people about this, instead I now shout correct grammar at them.
As for reaching out, **** me. In many ways I’m glad I’m past my halfway point in life.
slackaliceFree MemberThank you sir 😁🙏
Now, won’t be difficult to guess the motor!
slackaliceFree MemberThis was one of my most favourite dashboards that’s if the link works…

Nope…
Not that way either
Give up
slackaliceFree MemberI used to fill up the new oil filter with oil from the can before fitting it, working on the basis that it gave the pump one less thing to do, even after an oil and filter change.
slackaliceFree MemberAwesome, I do like this place! Thank you for your responses people, I shall read and digest appropriately.
I must confess, I was wondering what level and type of response I’d get, so Once again, thank you for responding to my questions without prejudice.
