    Culturally speaking…..

The western world generally lives by a set of ‘DO NOT’S’ that keep the mindless minority in check.

The rest of us just wanna get on with our own stuff with minimal hassle ne c’est pas?

I once got hollered at in Canmore AB for parking on the wrong side of the road…. they dont like it over there… no sireee. Eh.

You could try anything by Yahel, Aum Project, Aphid Moon (more psy trance but worth a wiggle), Scumfrog(DJ mixes), Lee Burridge(DJ mixes).

And how about some Lily Allen???? Not Fair – Style of Eye Remix

Dont be tempted to burn the odd bits of treated/tanalised offcuts, a sure-fire way (pun intended :o))to leave a noxiuos and flammable residue in the flue.

Pallets of kiln dried logs are pretty good value if you dont have the space to season green logs.

    Thanks pebble

Mine is a Deus XC with an external hope bb and given I didnt build this bike up, lordy only knows what length it is (although was assurred by the guy who did that he had set the chainline to 50mm), so I’ll pull it apart at some point/check the RF site for chainline specs/measure yadda yadda.

Ive found the chainsuck issue is very erratic and does tend to occur more in the gloop, so I’m tending to err towards a middle ring issue.

Must confess to preferring the internal square taper bb’s of old…

Thanks pebble. Great info and top dude for taking the time to post your info. My subscription has already been justified!!

Looks like I’ll go get me a Shimano 32 middle ring… Are the BCD’s compatable?

    Apologies for possible tangent….

Pebble: Interesting to read your comments re chainline dim and Shimano rings. Mine runs with a RF crankset. Doubtless there will be a thread on here that’ll detail how to check chainline….

Oh, and echo completely germinator and emsz.

    Do it!

I bought a little used 09 Litespeed Hummer last April and I’m loving the sublime feel of the ride! I’m 5’10” and the 17″ frame with a 90mm stem and low rise monkeylites suit me perfectly – but we all seem to like set up in our own ways.

To put into some perspective,I bought my first mtb in 1988, and a succession of 2 steel framed hardtails including a paint splatter Explosif (which was fab!)until 2000 when I got my SC Superlight. I also have a P7 that my SO rides now as a daily commute bike. I love my superlight and still ride it but since getting the Hummer, I’m torn as to which one I take out!

It feels strong yet light and nimble (I’ve put some 100-130 TALAS on it), certainly comfy enough for long days out and whilst I’m not a phat air type, for the kinda XC stuff I do with the occassional launch off steps n drops, it feels like it could do more than I can/want to.

Chain suck is a bit of an issue, but I’ve yet to fettle with the chainline, so I just give it some mechanical sympathy when dropping into the granny ring and back off a bit on the pedals.

There have been reports of Ti frames cracking and whether thats because of the material or some lard-arse dropping and jumping stuff that the XC label isnt designed for, I dont know. As far as I’m concerned, I always wanted to capture the zing of steel with the sharpness just rounded off a little. I was looking for an XC weight and responsiveness with a measure of longevity. I believe I’ve found it with the Hummer.

Other people here will always be entitled to their opinions and I daresay, some are based on personal experiences. This is mine. I love my bike/s!

Flexibility of mind and body, and soul if you so desire. Increased core muscle toning and strength.

And another opportunity to wear your lycra, this time with chicks present.

As for the Feung Shui (pro fung shway)… Chinese astrology with a load of maths to ascertain the ‘flow of energy’. You probably get what you need from that sweet ripping singletrack

Just fitted some Bonty Mud x’s to my hardtail…. amazing traction and grip in the gloop and roots in and around QE Park, Alton/Chawton etc. Yeah, the front sometimes slides through corners, altho that is probably more due to me not weighting the front enough. Riding the greasy off camber and out of deep wet ruts has become joyous!

When I bought them the LBS recommended 32psi as a start point (I’m approx 10.5 stone) and have found them very predictable at 30psi. I run tubes if that makes any difference?

Condensation is a result of different air temperatures. What temperature do you have the central heating set to?

If the walls are insulated, what is the state of roof insulation? It packs down after a while and could do with being checked?

Could indeed be rising damp too. A break in the damp proof course or the membrane beneath the concrete floor – a moisture meter will narrow that down for you.

If I may suggest, before splashing out on some sticking plasters in the form of de-humidifiers, get a couple of specialist opinions – there are bound to be some local historical building surveyors and make sure they are historical buildings peeps, or get a damp-proofing firm or two to come round and check – bearing in mind their ulteria motives. Both should check with their pointy moisture meters.

    Hope that helps.

Jeez people….. Management is about people, not numbers and certainly not theory. However, it has proved itself as a valuable money-spinner for various institutions….

Save your time and money and find yourself a ‘Listening Skills’ course through Adult Ed. Stages 1 to 3 would undoubtedly increase your effectiveness as a leader, inspirer and developer of people than any understanding of forecast modelling.

The real issue here is that we have developed a status culture, whereby people are promoted to levels of incompetence and unfortunately, the MBA has given us a dirth of inexperienced, over paid, incompetent and IMHO, dangerous management teams.

Apart from that…. The days start getting longer in less than a week :D

You’re probably not going to be too far off with £750 – £1,000 per sq metre. And then allow another 25% as your realistic overall spend start to finish. Will depend on area.

    I’ll lob my two-pennies in….

Yesterday I posted off my DDI to re-subscribe after a lapse of about 7years. Reasons being:
In the last year I’ve got back into my biking and refound the love I have for my bikes and the rides.
The last two issues of STW Ive picked up at WHS have been different to the rest and whilst not connecting with all of the articles, they are (generally)well written and the photography is art.
ALL the other mags – MBR WMB MBUK yadda yadda are soooo up for massaging the prostrates of the bike industry marketeers….
I used to read Mike Ferrentino back in the 90’s and I like.

Personally speaking, WTF is this 29er movement???!!! Since getting back into the sport, I’ve been assaulted with all things big wheel in all the other publications and I’m saddened that the bike industry has gone down the slippery slope of generating sales from an existing market base. The other mags have gone for it hook line and sinker, but at least they’ll continue to get their trade week/day invites to Horse shite creek et al. It seems to me that STW have not gone all out 29er and so they get my money.

My mum died last week too. It’s all bollox anyway.
