The 2012 RLC are bloody brilliant, I have some on my Five.

The best trail fork you can buy if you go by the reviews.

Just checked my seat post. It has another 5 inches before the minimum insertion mark from where I have it. There is no way you are that much taller than me, a 17″ will be fine, and they look better too.

The only difference between the two is an extra inch standover, like you say the ETT is the same.

I’m 5’11” (without shoes), with a 31.5″ inside leg, and ride a 17″. The seatpost is nowhere near maximum height and its the perfect length.

Personally I would go with a 17″. Apart from looking better, you have the extra standover for a dropper post if you have/want one.

Edit: Forgot to mention I used to have a 2011 18″ Five, the 17″ fits me better.

i think if everyone was to be honest, the ones who slag off {like i do} orange fives, are the ones with a deep lusting for one…….

    711mm Easton Haven Carbon

Not used them yet but they seem the perfect width.

Got my 5 pro with hope pack and coloured rims 2010 ridden 6 times last October for £1500. The bike is as new and same as the latest ones.

2010 bikes didn’t have tapered headtubes, ISCG mounts or dropper post cable guides.

the only bike that carries it off in that lot is the Handjob.

    Yeah you’re right.

F*ck me Jedi, you need to get a carpenter in.

    over-priced, under-engineered, heavy, dull bikes

Why are you describing a Transition Bandit on an Orange Five thread?

    skywalker

And as if by magic, out they all came. Case for the prosecution rests.

No, there is only one of you, the rest of us were giving him some advice and you popped up talking shit.

It’s not towards the brand, it’s the fanboys that think (and preach) that Five is the answer to everything, despite them clearly being over-priced, under-engineered, heavy, dull bikes.

    Specken sie bullshit.

So when I say ridden once it really has been

Don’t you think he built it up and though “what the **** have I done”

    **** me that is ugly.

Buy a new Five Pro. It might not have as good parts, but at least it won’t look like that. Plus you will have warranty.

If its second hand and a private sale then look at 50% retail + however much you ‘want’ it. Remember you’ll get at least 10 to 15% off on a brand new one shopping around so quick maths:

New Orange five + pro pack £3700.00 rrp (ish)
    – 15% = £3145 so say £3250 for a new one

half price for the second hand one £1850 + how much you want it (- how much he needs to sell it :))

£2650 seem a bit much to me I would punt at about £2250.00…

How do you manage to get from £1850 to £2250?

    Bit steep.

You would need a seriously large amount of explosives to blow a hole through the roof of that.

Stupendously ugly, utterly pointless, and I guarantee it rides like a sack of shit.

You are never allowed an opinion on anything bike related again.

There is no way Chris King hubs are worth three times as much as Pro 2’s.
A CK rear hub is practically the price of a set of Pro 2’s on Stans rims.

I think you will find people are trying save him from making the same mistake you did and spending a load of cash on some wheels, when as mentioned by numerous people aside from me, you can’t beat Hope Hoops.

in the real world can you actually tell when your riding along?

    Errr, yeah.

    skywalker

Not really the same though is it.

Deore is way behind XTR in terms of weight and quality, Hope hoops are possibly better than Easton Havens from what I have read about them, but half the price.

There is no need to spend that much, Pro 2 on Crest/Flows.

I’ve just put some Easton Haven carbon bars on mine (a bit out of your budget, but they do alloy ones), not used them yet but they look very nice, weigh nothing, supposed to be stupendously strong, and are the right width for me (711mm).

    Could work well

You don’t have the choice of making your bike shorter to fit you better, only longer, how can that possibly work well?

What about folk with long legs, short torso, and vice versa?

Say the standover on a medium is fine, but it feels way too long in the TT. So you try the next size down, the ETT is spot on, but you would have to run the seatpost above maximum extension.

People don’t just come in one size.
