  • What’s The Cheapest Way To Watch Mountain Biking Now GCN+ Is Closing?

In the market for a 150mm or 160mm fork but find the £700+ price of a Fox 36 to be a little ridiculous….the X Fusion Vengeance seems like a comparative bargain at £500.

You get what you pay for, and for that price I would be paying for Fox.

You can get 2011 Float 32 R’s for £340 if you look hard enough

Wondered if anybody on the forum has a bike with X Fusion suspension fitted or downgraded to any X Fusion parts?

    More like, cheap shite.

    Why would you do that?

Have a look through that thread, there is all the info you need on there including geometry and specs.

The only carbon frame I would trust would be one from one of the major players like Trek, for example, with a huge R&D division and computer modelling of the laying up/forming process. Riding a cheapo frame is like cheap insurance – the only time you realise it’s no good is after the crash!

    http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/519852863/2012_new_mtb_frames_FM056.html

Scroll down to the bottom, there are photos of them “testing” the frames.

Hong Fu also honour the warranty and replace the frames if they break (which isn’t often) if you have a look through that MTBR thread.

    Since when did lighter=more nimble?

Lighter generally always means more nimble. All else being equal, a light car or motorbike is going to be more nimble than a heavy one. Same goes with mountain bikes.

A fat dude vs a ballet dancer might be a comparison you can relate to more.

Because I’m a heavy, a plough-through-it rider and want something that ain’t gonna break.
I don’t think I’m the only one in this category?

    Ali AND 30lbs.

Because it’s massive fun, confidence inspiring and I’m not racing XC with it.

Whats to say you won’t have more fun on a lighter, more nimble HT, and that you would break one?

Learn to ride properly and you won’t need to rely on scaffold tubed frames.

    Just another aluminium alloy.

That is (up to 50%) stronger, lighter (because they can use less material) and has riding characteristics similar to steel.

Nothing like 6061 or 7005 then.

Alu doesn’t have to be harsh, it just often is- try an old Scandal frinstance

Except they are made of scandium, scandium rides different to aluminium.

Why on earth would you want to ride a 30 lbs hardtail? I am really struggling to find a reason why.

Thanks all for your comments. I ride trail centres, night riding and also freeride so that’s why I’m looking at this. I have a zesty and a Froggy and like the idea of a do
    It all bike.

There is no way one bike is better than two. I would stick with what you’ve got.

    Better off with Maxxis Advantage

As do most shock seals. Still going to be exposed less of the time.

I think you will find there is nothing in it exposure wise. The shock is continuously moving when riding and only covers the shaft when no one is on it.

The point is, the shock being in the direct line of fire of shit from the back wheel is definitely worse for UK riding than a shock positioned inside the main frame that hardly gets muddy at all.

and it’s a pull shock so less exposed to mud.

The seals are still going to get caked in mud no matter how much of the shock shaft is showing.

Couldn’t get a worse shock placement for UK conditions.

I have a hight volume RP23 with medium rebound, firm compression, 225 boost valve tune on my 2012 Five, so I guess you will be wanting along those lines.

    Bloody excellent shock.

I have always had Fox forks and never had any problems. I’m not sure about the issue your friend had, I haven’t heard of that before. I currently have some 2012 Fox 32 RLC’s and they are the best fork I have used by far IMO.

I’m a Fox fan but the Deville’s are supposed to be the better fork, although that was last year. Maybe with the new seals and coating the Fox have caught up.

If you are choosing between the two forget the Five AM, way too slack and it handles like the Titanic as I’m sure many will agree.

The quoted head angle on the Orange site is 66 degrees with 36’s (545mm A2C). If you go off the 67 degree head angle quoted on the Five pro with 32’s (512 mm A2C), and put it in here[/url], you will see the head angle for the Five AM is actually 65.4 degrees. Fine for a DH bike, not so good otherwise.

The weighs Rorschach said seem spot on.

I have non Evo X2’s on my Five and I am really pleased with them.

I have used some XT’s. I would say they are more powerful overall but the X2’s have way better modulation and are more than powerful enough. I weigh 13 stone and can stoppie no problem.

Ultimate power is not what its all about though (and I don’t see why people think it is 😕 ) there is only so much braking you can do before you lock up.

    50+ pages

The built up one on the last page (page 85) looks ten times better than an On One Lurker or 456.

Extremely cheap. We pay more than that when we buy then in 100’s at a time.
Either I am terrible at my job or those are shit.

More than likely built in the same place (or similar) so it must be the former.

Can’t fault my 2012 RP23 in the slightest, best shock I have used by far taking in to consideration weight and tuning ability.

Ive got a 2010 Remedy 8 and dont find the alu any kind of problem. In fact a friend had a Fuel Ex 9.9 and a Welsh rock went right throught the downtube whereas mine just has a chip… Read that as you will.

The same rock hit both your bikes at the same velocity, amazing.

    Who can say?

But a samle of one persons mate having owned and bust a differnt bike from the same manufacturer is hardly conclusive proof that they’re all gash though is it?

Applying your logic – I once owned a Raleigh Burner, it was Awsome; Hence all Raleighs Ever are Awsome! Fact! – So buy a Raleigh…

    1) Raleigh Burners were never, and never will be awesome.

    2) He asked for opinions, I gave him mine, which is a damn site more than you have to offer having no experience whatsoever.

Still think its too much bike for me, but I reckon if I got fitter if enjoy it more..

Put an air sock and 32’s on it then.
