just done that and comes out @ 65.95 (close enough to 66 degrees me thinks) slaaaak!

Errr, no it doesn’t, 65.4 degrees.

    fork height 512mm 545mm

    head angle 67° 65.4°
    seat angle 73° 71.5°

It works out the Five AM has a 65.4 degree head angle which is ridiculously slack. I know on the Orange site it says 66 degrees but thats BS.

Take the 67 degree head angle from the Five Pro and put it in the green HA section here[/url], then change the fork axle to crown to 512 (140mm 32 Floats). Then in the red section change the A2C to 545mm (160mm Float 36’s).

+ -20mm A2C = roughly 1 degree change in HA, but that calculator is spot on.

Way too slack with 160mm forks, rode absolutely horribly. If you run them at 140mm the axle to crown is still longer than 32 Float 140’s, I could tell the difference. Not only that you are carrying around an extra pound in weight for a slight stiffness increase, which IMO, unless riding really rocky stuff you don’t need.

I think you will struggle to find the need for anything more than what a 2012 RP23 can offer, it is seriously good shock.

If you think you need more bike you would be much better off with an Alpine.

Skywalker, please continue lol. I have contacts in the US (My companies US Office)so transporting goods to and from the US isnt a problem. What service problems?

Just what I read about them put me off, other peoples experiences. Miss aligned chain and seat stays, cracking welds, and poor customer service (not Intense themselves but the importers, mainly CRC)

I was looking at getting a Tracer 2 but was put off by the shoddy workmanship and dodgy warranty service of Intense.

If you re read the posts, you will see I was telling the OP not to bother with the ST$ and get a Five. I would have an Anthem over an ST4 though.

My brother owned an Anthem so I know how they ride, I also own a Five (so does he now). You think what you like, it doesn’t matter to me, but saying an Anthem is as capable as a Five is laughable.

Don’t get me wrong I think the Anthem is an excellent bike, just in a different way.

I am on about the Anthem and Five.

The Anthem is a 100mm race bike, the Five is a 140mm trail/am bike.

    Like I said, pointless comparison.

This, and in fact its what I did. Never understood the 5, just find it dull, uninvolving.

Looked at the ST4 and had a quick ride and was OK, but not in the same league as the Anthem

The Anthem is a totally different bike, pointless comparison or what.

That ^ is f*cking awful. Playing bass on the guitar = fail, and goes to show playing fast does not make you a decent guitar player, its got no soul.

An ST4 didn’t even cross my mind when I bought my Five, but the Five is playing on your mind whilst thinking about buying an ST4.

If I were you I would get a Five, they do everything the ST4 does but better 😉

A good time to sell up if you fancy a change. It will be new and you will get a fair bit for it.

I have never understood why Hope don’t sell the Arch as a hoop, they are Stans best selling rims apparently. Tempting though even if it is a custom build.

No, based on putting my hand in my pocket and buying the products then using them on a daily basis. And you?

HobNob, that isn’t what Roger at R53, or BOS themselves told me when I was looking to buy mine. The fox comments are based on many years of using their products, both as OE items and purchased after Market.

    Like I said, I have a 2012 RP23 on my bike now. I’ve also owned 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 RP23’s.

Is this based on experience with BOS products or guess work? All BOS rear shocks are built and tuned specifically for their user and bike to which they’re going to be fitted. RP23, on the other hand, are an off the shelf product with factory set tunes that you can then pay to have tuned to you and your bike.

Is this based on your inexperience of Bos and Fox products, I guess it must be….

Vouilloz, who has proved that he is still the alien, ran clips pretty much full time, as did Peaty!

And Fabien Barel, Greg Minnar, Dan & Gee Atherton, Cedric Gracia, Mark Beaumont, Aaron Gwin and Danny Hart (even the super fast mega wet WC winning run) and probably more.

Then you have all the 4x riders which use SPD’s, which was pretty much every one of them.

To be honest the average fat, trail centre xc mincing jey boy probably would’t notice the difference, hence why most of you don’t have a clue what you are on about. But this is STW, so I expect nothing less.

In fairness, that’s b*llocks. Are you seriously suggesting some of the quickest DH riders in the world are forgoing the chance to win because they prefer to ride flats rather than clipped in?!

No I am saying that flats are more efficient/faster, so most of them use them 🙄

Skywalker – there is no such thing as the “shock” to have…it depends what bike it’s going on. Anyone with a DW link frame should know this only too well, RP23’s aren’t the best shocks for them!

You can buy high or low volume shocks. They have compression, rebound, and boost valve tunes to suit different suspension designs. You can also buy air volume tuning kits from Mojo.

I think you will find you can tune an RP23 perfectly for DW Link, probably more so than a VIP’R.

    skywalker

I recon the 2012 RP23 is the shock to have. I haven’t tried an VIP’R but do have a 2012 RP23 and I really can’t see the VIP’R being better in any way..

Edit: They seem to think the same.

This isn’t just for you, but for all these people who find SPD’s more efficient.. how do you quantify this?

Check the elite DH guys, only the die hards ride flats. This is because SPD’s are more efficient, therefore quicker.

I was similar, had a dialled alpine around 30ish lbs at first, ended up about 33lbs with bigger forks, wheels, etc and it was much more confidence inspiring on the downhills with the heavier kit, depends what you’re riding i guess.

What forks did you swap from/to?

    skywalker

You seem to turn the bars when cornering rather than leaning the bike.

    No offence, just saying.

    Forks, no.

    I said suspension, not forks.

Coming from someone that takes his forum name from a cut of meat, writing an intelligent post is obviously too much to ask 😆

The word from people who have actually ridden them, is that they are damm good. Seems they have come a long way in the last two years.

Don’t bother listening to people spouting shite, when they haven’t even tried the product.

I love how you totally contradicted yourself there 😆

I’ve no experience of X Fusion but what’s to stop them making something good? About 10 years ago there was this company called Fox making suspension forks like Rock Shox and no one was sure about them.

Think you will find Fox were making suspension before Rock Shox matey.

skywalker is probably driving a Jaguar X type happy that he got what he paid for as opposed to a cheap Mondeo or something……

    Audi actually

I think the above responses indicate the scale of X-fusions challenge.

Basically there doesn’t appear to be anything much wrong with their products, but it seems people have such a monster hard-on for Fox forx that they’d rather spank a big wadge on an out of warranty old fork with the right name scrawled down the leg than a new X-fusion…

    Est company 1 – cheap noobs 0
