I’ve ridden the Strange green proto too. Big wheels were fun, but the ally frame was as harsh as a harsh thing.

Surely you had the shock set up to firm then?

    I think I want one.

just the paintjob looks like crap. might look better if it was sparkly gold but that just looks like cheap spray paint gold.

Apart from the fact Orange have pretty much the best quality paint job of all the brands I have seen in the flesh, those shitty gold bits are stickers 🙄

I’m liking the look of Santa Cruz’s as well.

Santa Cruz come up very short for the size, a 17″ has a 571mm TT, same with Transition.

If anything, no warranty will be better on a carbon frame as it can be repaired, while an alloy one can’t.

Who is really going to want to ride a repaired bike? The chances of carbon getting damaged are greater than alloy IME.

Imagine finishing work then having to ride for 2 hours to get home, **** that!

Its monocoque the same as the Five so it will definitely be made in Halifax.

Whats with the Orange hatred? Its like a school playground.

Carbon frame with no warranty, I would go for the Five.

A fella on our local forum bought a 2010 EX 9.9 new, within 2 weeks a single rock strike to the downtube wrote the frame off. He was offered a new frame at a discount price.

Zesty 314 would be my choice, they are lovely.

You should have gone to Specsavers 😉

The harder you ride a Five the more they come alive. You mincers would be better off with something a little more mince friendly.

Looks like a pikey, bloody good rider though.

trek doesnt supply rose coloured specs with their bikes

    😆

So whats DRCV, Full Floater, ABP, and Evo Link?

    Marketing BS.

A 16″ Five will fit you perfectly.

The DRCV shock on the EX made EVERYTHING feel square edged, no matter how it was set up. I test rode a Remedy and this didn’t suffer from the same problem, maybe due to the extra travel.

If we were measuring in fun, the Five would score a 9, and the EX a 6.

Had both, the Five is better in every way IMO, only marginally slower on the climbs due to the extra weight. The carbon EX isn’t that much lighter than the alloy one if I remember right.

Last time I checked, riding a BMX was cycling, although they all used SPD’s too.

Witty clever retort there. Well done you…

I’m sure it does. Some of us ride post-industrial revolution bikes though, where it’s not necessary to have a perfect shock to compensate for the frame’s very basic characteristics charming Northern industrial roots.

I’ve never found my bike (ASR-5)

Harry is now pedaling his first proper bike which at the age of 3 and 1/2 is pretty cool. It just goes to show how good balance bikes are.

    Thanks.

As soon as Owen could fit on it (I had to cut an inch off the seatpost to get the saddle low enough) which was roughly a month ago (2 years and 3 months) it took him about 10 minutes before he was rolling down hills. Before this, for the past year, I had been pushing him around on it, jumping off the curb, doing manuals etc, to get him used to being on it which he loved.

Fit riders with no skills…you know the ones when you’re doing a race/event, they pass you on the climbs, next thing you’re stuck behind them on the descents wondering what is wrong with them. You manage to get past them and then it all starts again on the next climb/descent!!! FFS

    You mean roadies.

You have been listening to people on here too much with their typical slacker is better STW mentality, which is definitely not the case.

There are lots of jumps at my local BMX track too, and it looks about as smooth.

Its supposed to be black, not blue.

    Laggans more like it.

    What an idiot 😆

Too many fat bar stewards blaming their shocks when they should be laying off the pies.

My 2012 RP23 works extremely well.

“Fifty Quid Bike” category – you’ve spent more than that on the tyres

    for a ride?

I quite fancy trying one of the Welsh trail centres but it would be about 2.5/3 hours each way.

B&B or camping not an option in this instance.

I drove 4 hours to Wales, rode The Wall and Whites Level, then drove home in one day.

The issue was around having to run it at maximum pressure to stop it bottoming out, at which point there was no small/medium bump sensitivity.

I think the real issue is you eating all the pies, don’t go blaming a perfectly good shock.

2012 RP23 is the best air shock ever, fact.

    New Patriot, yum.

Nukeproof Mega will take a 180. Climbs like a much smaller bike

Not with 180 forks it wouldn’t, it would be stupidly slack.

    I would use a car.

The concentration/awareness, lack of comfort, and noise, would leave you absolutely knackered after 550 miles.

Where would you start, on the road?

    Its hardly difficult!
