    Ok so assuming I rule ISIS out, is square taper still really all that?
    I really like the Middleburns but the SLX's look nice too.
    I have had no experience with cranks that use outboard bearings and I'm a bit dubious tbh.
    Been using my ISIS BB for nearly 2 years and it's still working 😮
    albeit with a slight side to side movement that's started recently…

    I used SPD's for the first time 6-7 years ago. Went back to flats after a few months, but now I'm using SPD's again! I can't see myself ever going back to flats.
    Start off with as much float as possible and over time, tighten them bit by bit until you feel comfortable.
    Also, the position of the cleats on your shoes could need adjusting.
    I moved my saddle forwards slightly and this took the slight pain away from my knees that I was having when using SPD's.
    It does take a while to get used to them, but it's worth persevering IMO.

    Little tip, use a few extra headset spacers than you need. That way you can always play about with the height. Once the height feels right, do the final cut. (I keep one 10mm spacer on top of the stem).

    I use a pipe cutter like this one!
    Much neater and easier job than using a hacksaw. Got mine from a local hardware store for a few quid.

    Roadies have a lot of stamina and endure long, windy rides etc, BUT I'd like to see them attempt half the stuff that I've seen MTB'ers do.
    Roadies = fitter
    MTB'ers = tougher
    (probably) 🙂

    I find washing powder ads with the split screen old/new powder amusing. If it REALLY has been improved so much and so many times, then surely it'd be so potent that it would dissolve my clothes. Also, does this mean that the old powder was actually crap?

    I just sold a DMR Chain reactor/chain cage combo (and my spare pulleys) that I was using before this! They are good but I prefer this device because it's silent and the bike feels smoother to ride now.

    TBH, by chopping the top off the washers I'd probably only save a gram or two. My main gripe before was the weight of the heavy steel washers, but now it weighs a lot less… job done!

    Got the weight down even lower with my second attempt. The steel washers have been replaced with nylon 🙂

    I had a search for some large nylon m6 washers but couldn't find anything big enough 😥

    Thanks!
    I had just ordered a Paul comp chain keeper. Unfortunately, I received an email to say they had just ran out of stock. Rather than wait (or use a cheaper DMR chaincage) I thought I'd have a go at making one…
    Currently making another for the gf's bike 🙂

    You are turning it clockwise I presume?
    If the chain device is able to move slightly, try moving that in the same direction as you turn the BB (like a ratchet motion) it worked for me!
    I prefer molegrips over spanners for use with BB tools.

    Bucket of soapy water, sponge and toothbrush for the hard to get areas.
    rinse with a bucket of plain H20 afterwards.
    Petrol for the chain when it's really mucky (which is hasn't been since I started using squirt!).

    FWIW, I use an Avid Rollamajig and never had any probs with it in over 6 years.
    It'll be made redundant when I eventually replace my short cage, road rear mech for a Saint m810 😛
