After my first one lasted the best part of a year, my next one lasted a few months so i replaced it with a Hope one. All good so far.

With the hope one get a shop to fit it first time. Some/most will offer this as part of the sale. The bearings can be replaced without the need to remove the main part so its easy to service and should last.

I’ve got a Defy 1 Mark, and the giant wheels have been fine over the last year even clattering over Sheffield’s best roads. Spokes on the rear could do with going over but this’ll be the first time.

Get the one that you like the look and ride of. They’re both good bikes.

If you go down the council route, they’ll ask you to make a diary of days and times of the dogs barking. May also have to make recordings but you will probably need to prove location (not that you just recorded dogs at the local RSPCA).

Next doors dogs bark at us when we use the side gate. One even trys to snap at you as you go past (through the fence). Our old dog doesn’t like it so lets you walk in first so it snaps at you and he can walk in without being seen. Gave it a flick on the nose the other week which it didn’t like. Proper hates me now so don’t go down that path, yaps even more now when it sees me.

You just don’t like putting your tent up!! Long Mynd proved that. Rich is with me so i’ll have 2 bikes and stuff in there anyway plus your 5am wake up calls don’t even come with a cup of tea.

    Seen this http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/santa-cruz-blur-xc-frame-size-large-upgraded-kashima-shock-260

Just strip your bike down, take your bits home and leave the boxy frame there.

Agree with loddrick, put your bike in the front of your car. If you think its going in my van so you can wake me at 5am asking for my keys to get your bike so you can go home think again.

I have a Defy 1 and find it spot on for what i want. Came with 25c tyres on it and there looks like roon for more (not tried).

Took a couple of rides to get things to the right height, not had a road bike for years so was a bit out on seat/bar distance but all ok now. Had no problems with any of the kit.

Easy to ride and comfy, even on Sheffield/Barnsley’s best roads!!

Friend of Mrs skip got married last year. They had asked for money as a gift as they were combining 2 houses into one.

On the night of the wedding, we were off and went looking for the bride and groom to wish them well and happy honeymoon. Went into the next room and found them emptying cards and counting cash. Just putting it in piles and adding it up but they had no idea who had given them what. The mrs wished them a happy honeymoon and the groom picked up a bundle of cash and said “we will now!”.

We think they were using the money to pay for the doo the way they were countingh it up there. Didn’t look good.

I think you can ask for it from close family and friends, but others won’t want you pissing it up the wall.

When we got married, we needed a new telly (but would never expect one person to buy one) so we said what we wanted to buy and asked for Meadow Hall vouchers. Got a choice of shops to play with and its as good as cash. Some people could’t get to collect them so just gave cash anyway. Peopel like to know what they’re getting you.

We were charged £50 last year to paper a wall (south yorkshire). Small depth chimney breast and fireplace fitted. Was there about 2 1/2 hours. You can’t see the joins and he did the tricky bits round the fireplace really well. Very happy with it.

Well worth it for me as i can’t paper.

I went up with Pook and in the end it turned out to be a great day out. The ride/push up was tough. The grass and ground was just wet enough to sap all the strength out of your legs. You’d think i should be riding this (its not that steep) but get on your bike and you’d just stop.

The downs were ace. Really made the ups worth it.

Had a Lev for over a year and its been fine. As above, collar off twice for a bit of a clean and grease and its ok.

On another note, to replace the cable, can i just use a normal gear cable?

We use ‘shake and vac’ type stuff every now and again to stop the house smelling like a dogs bed. Our old boy (who normally smells like hes rotting on the inside) just sleeps on the carpet thats been dusted and picks the smell up from there.

He smells like he shampoos every day now.

When i was in hospital (after 4-5 days of the sh#ts) i was told white food. Bread, pasta, rice and spuds. Nothing on any of it, just as it comes. This and plenty of water. Then add scrambled egg.

Also try a yakult (full fat not the light stuff). This will help rebuild the bacteria in the stomach and should help you out. We even give this to our dog when he has the runs. Vet said its the best thing for them.

Glad they’re out ok. Have some paracetamol and brufen on hand and alternate the two. Keep on top of the pain before it starts and you’ll be fine. (I’m no doctor or dentist so if you’re not, don’t come looking for me!!)

Had 3 taken out 20 years ago at hospital. Lower 2 were impacted and only had one top one on its way out. 3 days in hospital with GA, lots of morphine and in the end it wasn’t touching the pain. Para’s took it off straight away.

They pack the back of your throat out to stop bits of bone and tooth going into your lungs. Lots of stitches and plenty of dried blood in the mouth afterwards. My cheeks looked like a Dulux colour chart after.

They’d only let me go home after i’d proved i could eat. Cornflakes the following morning were a nightmare. Trying not to prod the stitches with your tongue to get the bits out was both hard not to do and painful when you did!!

I have a hope on my Zesty. Smooth as and happy with it. It replaced a FSA one that lasted about 3 months and then went very notchy, which had replaced a Shimano one that did the same. Original BB did 12 months.

The bit i wasn’t too keen on was the removal of the old BB. With the Hope one, you remove the bearings from the BB rather than the BB from the frame. Adds a bit more metal to the area rather than wear out whats there if you catch my drift.

Thank you. Was thinking it would as its the same principle.

I’ve got some of the gritty stuff already but i’d not thought about tape.

    Landlord – yes

Ours is about a mile away from home and we used an agent to find a tenant and to manage our first year of renting as neither me or mrs skip had ever rented a property out before. They gave cover for chasing rent payments and stuff. Just felt safer at first.

Found us a family of 4 with kids at local school and mum and dad that both work for the council. They are long term renters and they would be happy in there for years. They have my number and i’ve had to sort out 2 broken toilet flushes and have a sparky sort out a bit of old wiring.

Have a slush fund on hand should you need to repair anything big such as a boiler or roof, and you soon get to know tradesmen you can trust.

Our rent covers the mortgage and bills so the house is paying itself off. We’ll not be rich but if its longterm you’re looking (pension time like us), theres no reason not to.

Was told by a bloke where we get our work vans MOT’d that glow plugs are on rear of engine and to replace means engine out. He said they’re a pain in the ass to work on.

We know why you ‘kin love parcels now don’t we??!!

That is just wrong and if there are any solicitors on STW i think you should have a pop at this. Its appalling behaviour from RM.

Well done Mojo for helping Paul out, and well written Paul as you would of been well withing your rights to give a load of crap back. Like you said, get the word out and lets hit them where it hurts, in the ££££.

I bought some forks off here from the Netherlands i think. Bloke had described them as bike forks containing oil. Got the tracking number so was able to watch them get sent from there to the UK, and then the UK post them back there. Got a mail saying that they couldn’t ship them as they were dangerous yet they posted them back to another country.

Bloke crossed out the oil on the note and shipped them straight back no problem. RM are stupid.

Nice to hear. Can understand them looking out for knock off goods that would do them damage but glad they’re looking at other cases differently.

The value of recycled materials fluctuates all the time. At one point China was taking everything we had. We (the UK) took the piss and started sending them all our crap too. Weeks on a boat in a box turned our unsorted waste into a box of gooo. They shut the doors to imports so the market died. Now we’re looking for other markets to use.

As for composting, we run a composting site and the number of hoops we’ve had to jump through. Different wastes have to be treated in different ways and need to hit different temperatures for differenet times. If you collect a smaller amount of waste that contains meat (animal by products) its easier to compost that in a DEFRA approved composter and then windrow the greens and veg.If its all mixed up, you have to compost a bigger tonnage slowing you down.

As for zero to landfill….don’t get me started. Its all crap. We may send it over seas as fuel but the residues end up in landfill. We’re looking at some new kit that will help us get very close but you need another process to deal with the residues. We already have that so fingers crossed for the new year.

Kerbside collections do make recycling easier though so thats why you have loads of bins.

Where do the english hide all these mythical chipshops ? Your chips are all way too thin when ever ive had fish and chips down your way – or the fish comes out looking like a harry ramsdens frozen fish

Needs to be done in beef dripping and even then theres good and bad. There’ve been quite a few times we’ve walked into a chippy and she’s asked what they cook them in. If they say veg oil we’re out the door.

There are 2 or 3 in Barnsley that are good. One at Garforth at Leeds (though not been for a while) and one in Wakefield that are on our list of places we can go.

Can’t believe i’m putting this but

    Hora +1

Get the price your willing to pay in your head and stick to it. Its up to you how you get there, little jumps to waste time as such, or one big jump to try and smash the others out in one go. A combination of the 2 may work.

Think it’ll go to best and finals if theres 2 or more parties involved. Have bought and sold using this method and when i sold, it didn’t go to the highest bidder. I went for one with no chain and the mortgage in place.

As others have said, put all your plus points forward with your offer and then cross your fingers.

Flash grenade Sir? Make the process quicker

Think the first bit is quite quick anyway, its the waiting for the hole to heal after that takes the time.

I’ll be rear gunner as normal Pook!!

If its just on their site, then they can enforce it. I know of one site where we do work that they use bikes to get about on as the site is huge. Its hi-vis, hard hat, safety specs and boots on there and if you don’t, you’re off.

You originally said “Currently it is mandatory in low light conditions only as a sensible compromise”. Who says when its low light? Perhaps one persons low light is anothers bright light so to take the issue away and stop conflict they just gone full time on it.

Can’t really see it being a major issue.
