Yes, there is a big warning in the manual saying don’t replace the battery with a normal battery must be a special one with lots of juice.

The manual advises you to knock it out of gear (hence allowing the engine to switch off) if you suspect you will be stationary for more than 5 seconds.

Starts in 0.3 seconds from dipping the clutch. It’s also quite clever (have it on two Fords) in that if you knock it out of gear in a queue on a hill say, engine goes off. Take handbrake off and let the car roll and once speed gets above 5mph(ish) the engine starts (so you have power steering or brakes). Similarly if you brake it starts. It also doesn’t turn off if you have climate control on and cabin temp is not at the desired temp. Also doesn’t do it until the engine is warm.

I just bought one of these:

Which I guess fits your description? I love it anyway.

Found out about Christopher Ward from someone on this forum and am very impressed with their products and service.

I rode my bike from Reigate to Lincoln (in one day) a few months ago to visit my parents. It was the best journey I’ve ever been on.

Are you going to book a week in Ibiza with the money you save?

We got a local plumber to put it in. It took about an hour.

I shall fritter it on fruity Ukrainian hookers like all my spare cash.

Just received my Honeywell 927 in the post about an hour ago following a thread on here last week! I don’t currently have any thermostat, just TRVs in every room so the boiler is either on or off. To cool it down I have to change individual TRVs or turn the boiler off, very much looking forward to having this programmable system.

That’s assuming I can wire in the relay to the boiler without breaking everything…!

And the biggy… spent £160 on a smart thermostat / boiler controller and got a £600 gas rebate compared to the year before!

What’s one of those then? Any links?

I have a Motorola Xoom and I like it. They have been slow to update to 3.1 compared to, say, Asus Transformer but that’s because Asus wrote a custom upgrade. The Xoom delay was actually caused by Google, Motorola handled the information on the delay poorly though.

As a tablet I like it a lot. I agree the iPad responds very quickly to presses and does seem a bit ‘swisher’ but I’m definitely an Android person and wouldn’t swap. Some of my big beefs with Apple are being fixed soon (no need to plug an iPad into a computer running iTunes when you take it out of the box, OTA software updates etc.) but these are things Android have had for a while which is why I bought the Xoom 3-4 months ago compared to an iPad.

When I was selling a car, I made sure I met near a bank and paid the cash into my account first before handing over the keys. Just in case he was giving me any fugazis.

Nothing helpful to add just wanted to register how much that HSBC secure key p*sses me off too. I have one for my personal account, a different style one for my business account (also HSBC) a calculator style thing for a Nationwide account. Definitely thinking of changing from HSBC because of it.

Got the wifi one. As most people said you don’t desperately need to buy a book that often, I have about 30 on there currently waiting to be read.

If I was desperate I could make my phone a wifi point and use that.

Check out the Synology range (I have the 110j) – advantages are it can stream data to TV / XBox so you can put a load of movies / TV shows / music / pictures etc. and watch on your TV.

I’ve used Endomondo for 8 hrs on my Nexus S. I turned data transfer off and had the screen turned off, just left it running in my pocket.

I often use it for 3-4 hrs with data transfer and music playing as well, to be fair to Endomondo any app running using GPS and storing data in memory / writing data to card will use some juice.

You can get little devices that connect via USB and just put a normal AA battery in it. That gives you a lot more run-time.

Eurosport is in the ‘News Pack’! Grrrr… guess that would be one I’d turn on for the Tour de France and then cancel.

Thanks for that. You can get the individual channels for £12.25 each, or £20.25 for both, see bottom of this page:

Obviously the OP is in a sportive so won’t be able to divert, but for anyone else in the area, this is also a great one:

Ignore the No Cycling sign, and also ignore the fact that the building on your right (going up) is a Police station, it’s a great cheeky climb. Tricky, and as usual – steeper than it looks!

Yep – done it. It’s pretty steep but as crazy-legs says it’s short, only takes a few minutes. Great views from the top and the bail area of Lincoln is very nice.

I did it as it’s one of the climbs in the Top 100 Cycling Climbs book which I’m trying to work my way through. When I go places and can take a bike I check the book out, see if there’s any climbs nearby I can do.

    On the Island:

Tofino is really great, gf and I enjoyed a great stay there. Mt. Washington is great for uplifts – I hired a bike there and spent an afternoon riding trails. Telegraph Cove is nice.

    Also Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain.

The High Bridge in Lincoln, England is the oldest bridge in the United Kingdom which still has buildings on it.[1] It was built about 1160 A.D. and a chapel built in 1235 dedicated to Thomas Becket was removed in 1762 with the current row of shops dating from 1550:

Still has a working tea shop on it. Fond memories of tea there as a youngster.

I get a lot of Ford cars, and the way it works with them (probably similar with Volvo) is pair your phone with the car, select audio input as bluetooth on the car stereo, then just press play music from your phone as if you were listening to it on headphones.

Agreed, have one and it’s excellent.

Read an article recently predicting they would be free by the end of this year. Makes sense for Amazon to give them away, possibly a “sign up for one book a month and get a free Kindle” type scheme, or given that they are so tied in to Amazon – just give them away for free.

I think the average user doesn’t care about disputes between Apple and Adobe, Flash or HTML5. The point is that with an iPad I can’t watch the videos on BBC News, with other tablets I can, so that is one reason why I won’t be buying an iPad. It’s an important enough reason for me, and perhaps the OP.

Waiting for a Galaxy Tab 10.1 I think. My gf has an iPad but it annoys me too much. I’ve had Android phones for a few years now (currently have a Nexus S which is awesome) and I’m not an Apple hater in any way, I just prefer the lack of restrictions you have on Android compared to Apple.

It is illegal to video or photograph a copper going about their duties thanks to anti terror legislation. If this copper knew what he was doing he would simply have arrested this bloke for that and it would have been the end of it. It looks like a tale of 2 pricks to me as I find people who run red lights and coppers who throw their weight around both quarrelsome.

Not entirely true – my understanding is that the Police can only stop you if they suspect the footage is likely to be used in a terrorist act or for some ‘terrorist’ purpose. Which is very vague…
