I feel your pain unknown… The wife and I are 13mths in, and are in a similar situation… I’m pretty good at letting water run off my back, so the regular jibes and criticisms are generally overcome by the positive moments, but there is (and certainly has been) a negative trend since the kid dropped. I’d be very interested to know how many marriages are crippled by child birth. Actually, that’s pretty depressing, so i’d rather not!
We had been happily married for three years before the (planned) pee stick discovery, and it’s been really really tough ever since.
I’m not really sure I can give much advice until I myself get through this funk, but I’ll give you these two nuggets that I remind myself of daily…

1: You are going to experience the most wonderful moments you could have ever imagined, and though they may be fleeting, you will cherish them forever.

2: Your OH is having a harder time than you are, so please don’t take it out on her…

Stick with it bud, and one day you’ll notice it’s going good, and you will wonder what you were fretting about (hopefully)

DT hubs and spokes for sure. Used to use Hope hubs back in the flange-cracking days, which you could forgive due to the OK prices at the time and the great warranty. Tried Chris King hubs after that and ironically cracked a flange and got nothing but grief from the warranty guys, so that was that.
Shimano gears and brakes. Tried SRAM drivetrains and brakes. Loved the performance of the brakes, but they all rotted and fell apart eventually. X0 stuff always either seized or developed play.
Love Treks. Used to think they were the blandest brand out there, but have 3 now and likely will stick with them.
    Thomson of course.
Dangerously, I seem to have pretty bad ocd with bike stuff, so if I ever change brand of one component, I HAVE to change said component on my other bikes to match… Not sure why.
Shimano shoes (though I have Sidis I like too), Giro helmets (Troy Lee for full-face), Gore clothing, Oakley.

Samsung TVs and Apple stuff. Got a Samsung Galaxy S5 to try and convince myself I wasn’t an Apple fanboy but HATED everything about it. Got a Windows 8 PC for similar reason and hated that too…

    Reno Air Races.

500 mph jets and warbirds screaming around at low level .

I got to crew there this year for my Father-in-law! He came 3rd in Unlimited Silver. It’s my first time at the race, and it was more awesome than I had imagined! We’re working on cooling drag and a new supercharger system this year to stick it to a few more P-51s next year 😉

We were there month before last with our (then) 10 month old and were basically tethered to the hotel room. We stayed in the Bellagio and didn’t even get to see the fountains! Essentially a waste of three days of our lives. I did however play Blackjack for 20 minutes and triple my money, so there is that. I would like to go back to experience the spectacle of the strip, but it’s not super high on my list of priorities…

No bike stuff this year, but I sure can’t complain… Yikes! She was paying attention to the nose prints I left on the Omega store window in Las Vegas lol!

A lot of suggestions here really make me smile… A good song or album is timeless!
I still listen to this like I did when I first bought it on tape twenty-something years ago (on repeat).

I’ve got a Stache 5 and love love love it! Haven’t had anything with wheels bigger than 26″ before, and am amazed at the grip. Took it out in the snow and ice yesterday and it didn’t miss a beat… Highly recommended!

I count myself as “a Porsche guy” but I would have that P1 all day long!
On a side note. I was talking to a dude from Germany two weeks ago who has 7 Porsches, including a 918 AND a 918 Weissach! He rates them pretty highly lol!

Fitting a new front brake, hose shortened, bled beautifully and all looking nice and tidy. Bike back on the ground only to realize the U-turn travel adjust was wound all the way down… Arse!

Awesome bikes there guys! Yeah, I understand what many of you say about going straight to a sports bike as a first bike, but I think I have a reasonably sensible head on my shoulders in terms of self-restraint… I have been learning the basics on my friends CBR600RR at the airport where I work, and really like it…
Saying that, part of me really likes naked bikes, and the new FZ09 appeals to me also. It’s a different beast to the R6 of course, but it sure is purty!

I can trace the crazy pricing all the way back to one brand becoming popular… Enve. Before they came along (under the name Edge) nobody would dream of spending over £2k on a pair of wheels, but once they started becoming popular, it’s like the industry decided that the general public will pay anything for the best! Now of course you can buy off-the-shelf bikes from Santa Cruz, Cannondale etc with these wheels that are insane money! Once XTR Di2 becomes more popular, I imagine another jump forward :/

I really like watching boat racing… Everything from yacht racing, to unlimited drag boat racing… No idea why, as i’m not a boat person and never have been!
Same goes for watching golf. Weird no?

Boring first name (after my dad), fun middle name that we can use every day… He will only get called by his full name when he’s in trouble. That’s how we ended up with James Fox 🙂

I remember back in the day when airbags were new, thinking “that should be standard on everything”. What, 25 years later and it’s a no-brainer. Same goes for ABS. My wife’s last two cars both have crash mitigation, and I absolutely think the world would be a better place when that was standard. Yes, driving deserves every ounce of the driver’s attention, and i think autonomous cars are a terrible idea, but for that one accident that technology can save you from it is completely worth it!
A few months ago her car saved our bacon by automatically hauling on the anchors as some moron crossed three lanes to catch his turn-off. That extra half a second or less of braking the system provided absolutely stopped us from making contact with another vehicle… I wouldn’t want her driving anything without some such system any more…

Those lovely new Jeep Grand Cherokees. The battery in hidden under the passenger seat, and to get at it the (electrically operated) seat must be all the way forward and upright… See the problem?

My wife sleepwalks, so we get shoes in the fridge, purses in the washing machine and car keys in a bowl in a kitchen cupboard… The weirdest morning was when i went downstairs to find my bikes stacked on-top of one another in the living room with a blanket draped over them and a helmet carefully balanced like a cherry on top lol!

I’m in Kansas and STW is still the first site I click on in the evenings. Here and Pinkbike. I haven’t found an American site that i’ve liked. As mentioned already jensonusa.com is a good place to buy from, as is competitivecyclist.com. I still use CRC for bits and pieces every now and then when the prices work out better and i’m not in a rush.
Be prepared to start looking for truck and gun forums also 🙄

Over the years I have sold bikes that I have deeply regretted getting rid of… My trials bike and singlespeed bikes are especially missed, despite the fact they weren’t getting used at the time. The money I got for them ended up being used for something uninspiring like bills and lager. They meant much more to me than that when i had them.
On the flip side, I have a very tricked out downhill bike hanging in the garage that I haven’t ridden since 2009 which bums me out every time I glance at it. It’s now not worth a fraction of what it was back then, so what the hey…
If you need the money, sell it, if you don’t, don’t.

I bought a EF 24mm f/1.4L II from Ebay for my 550D and it was incredible the quality of shots it allowed indoors, but i ended up reselling to get a EF 24-105mm f/4L IS as I figured the versatility of having some zoom was worth dropping down to a smaller aperture… As pointed out already, the full-frame lens on a 2/3 body does make you feel a little close to the action, so I often find myself having to back away from the action to get everything in frame…
Santa got me a EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 which is designed for the cropped body, so it’ll be fun experimenting with such wide angles 🙂

Thailand huh? Can’t you hire some lady of the night to take them out with pingpong balls? 😉
I joke… Seriously, a .22 or .177 air gun does not need to hit a pigeon in the heart to kill. My childhood was well spent with a variety of break-barrel, under-lever and pre-charged air rifles and took out many many different vermin bigger and hardier than pigeons… Maybe it’s worth applying for a license if they are a real problem?

As GavinB says, loctite the cups. I love building up these rims, as I load up the cups with nipples and loctite them in before beginning lacing and it takes no time at all… Furthermore, the rims are so stiff that they’re really easy to get nice and round 🙂

If more people were concerned about the potential for the victim to get his own back then perhaps there’d be less violence – kinda like the nuclear threat?!
What you mean like those states in America where you are allowed to carry a gun for protection? I’m pretty sure those states aren’t some sort of crime free utopia, because all the criminals are to scared to break the law.

    POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST
I happen to live in one of those states and my wife and I carry most days. Strange thing is, we do still have crime, and you rarely ever hear of people using their protection weapons. We certainly don’t hear about vigilante justice, so maybe “Muricans” aren’t ALL as trigger-happy as everyone thinks.

To take his 16 and 17yo sons with him on a knife armed vigilante mission is abhorrent! Sounds like a thug leading his thug kids down the same path… It’s a sad world…

I like my 160mm 36 Talas RLC, I also liked my 150mm Revelation Teams I used to have… Would be interested to try 34s or new Pikes as a comparison, but I would definitely say 150/160mm travel works very well 🙂
