Can we stop using words like shoplifters and call them thiefs

stop calling people who steal cars joyriders and call them car thiefs
How about calling them thieves instead? 🙄

I'd pay Mike@DB to make me a Titanium Alpine (or maybe to put it into production myself if I had THAT much).

    I'd also have a full suss trail bike (Turner 5 spot?) but most importantly I'd move somewhere like this;

Where is that picture taken from? I want to go there so much it hurts!

Easily one of these, but i'd have to take the gears off it! I used to have a Taurine singlespeeded and i deeply regret selling it…

Oh, and i would buy out commencal and dump all of their stock in the middle of the atlantic.

I love my Hope SS hub. It engages very quickly (more pawls than standard pro 2) obviously this is mainly for trials riding, but it's really noticeable and is great for slow speed techy bits.

Actually, it has the same number of pawls as the standard one. I had one for ages on a jump bike and it was flawless. Love the loud noise too!
I WAY prefer the DT240ss right enough, but they are spendy! Also Profile do really nice ones, which turn up cheap from time to time…

I treated myself to a Genesis io as an early present. The first ride was a bit of a shock to the system, but each subsequent one has been a joy!

Non-greased outer really doesn't shift as well, or last as well and also some cheap outers are very prone to splitting along their length. Ever seen OE cables split so the strands of steel splay out through the plastic? Furthermore, you can rarely change outers without changing inners, so there are hidden implications there with the cheap stuff. If anything, i would use good outer cabling and cheap cables. SP41 with a high quality teflon coated inner like XTR can last years if you look after your bike worth a damn. I have gore cables on one of my bikes, and i actually think it is certainly nothing like two and a half times better as the price suggests.

The rrp for those from madison (the official shimano importer) are as follows. SP41 outer retails at 35p for 10cm, stainless inner £3.50, outer ferrulles are 80p each, crimps 15p each. Sounds bang on to me! Some shops charge slightly more for outers and cables to absorb the cost of the ferrulles and crimps to avoid stock-level nightmares, but generally you paid the going rate. If you compare that price to a pre-packaged set, a "Deore" set which includes pretty much the same stuff retails at £24.99. Bargain!
As for the guys shouting about getting such cheap deals, they are either getting more basic stuff (non sealed ferrulles, non-greased outers, non-stainless inners) or the shops are short changing themselves, and it won't last forever… Better stock up!

I've got a carbon trek madone, a blur lt carbon, and had a cannondale taurine carbon, along with numerous carbon bars, seatposts, cranks, brake levers, saddles, mech cages, and helmets. Never had a sniff of a problem in anything, yet i have broken plenty of aluminium stuff. High quality carbon products will outperform aluminium and steel alloy parts in many ways. True, a crash can cause invisible damage in the 3d material, but i have never had need to worry, and it's not through not trying hard enough! Many manafacturers have some sort of back-up for crash damaged parts just in case. It's worth pointing out, that there are a lot of crap "generic" carbon products out there, and i'd always be happier getting something from an established carbon manafacturer.

My dad has gone from a 52 plate 1.8t petrol 9-3 to a 58 plate 2.2 tiD, and it's an incredible difference. The diesel is so much faster, smoother, quieter and he averages 50mpg despite the "new car – heavy right foot". The build is much better and the ride is improved. I thought he had made a mistake getting another 9-3, cos the other one wasn't very nice at all, but i am pretty jealous of this one.

Bingo! It's not that the slx mech is "bad", but if you had one in your hand and an xt in the other, the quality difference is obvious. The slx cranks, brakes and front mechs are excellent. I have all of the above, and can't fault them one bit.

I tried non-ust maxxis on my stans with the yellow tape, and couldn't get them to stop pissing sealant from around the bead. Got the flow specific rubber rim strips to try again, and that didn't help either. I have michelins on now, and they're dandy.

As much as i love slx, i don't rate the rear mech or the shifters. The rear mech is quite agricultural compared to an xt, and the shifters don't have the same positive click as xt. For everything else though, slx is spot on.

I've built up one for a customer with that exact same build (but with rebas) and if memory serves it was about 26lb with pedals (xtr of course). It would be sacrilage not to use a thomson stem though. The eastons are horrible!

Oh, and i particularly like the warning at the start "stunt rider, do not try this". I'd like to see the plebs that watch that going "i could do that on my carrera outrage".

The top fuel is absolutely fantastic! I had the chance to raz a 9.9 last year at glentress, and you'd be amazed how much you can throw it around. It is one of the very fastest bikes money can buy! The EX is excellent too!

I'm meant to be flying out to Denver on the 22nd to spend my first Christmas with the in-laws, and now i don't know what the hell is going on. The Fiancee is already over there and she is devastated that i may end up not getting there… Surely the strike won't happen… Surely? 😕

I have been running Raceface Deus cranks on my DH bike for over 2 years, and even though i'm carrying a few more cakes onboard than i used to, they are still going strong. They are very lovely indeed! The bb was cack though, so have a shimano one on with no problems 8)

A problem i suffer from also. How loud can music/x-box be before it can be heard through a tenament wall? My living room backs onto my neigbour's kitchen, but my Mrs moans if i have the volume even vaguely above middle after 11pm. I miss living in the country…

I run Lyrik u-turns on mine, and they're the business! I don't always run them full tilt though, depending on where i'm riding… The maxle revelations are an excellent match also!

I run flow rims on my DH bike, and they're flawless! Highly recommended! They weigh about as much as DT 5.1s, and are a sight stronger! You'll never want for anything more!

You are dreaming if you think you'll get a warranty for a second hand frame… They haven't made a dime from you, so long story short, you are not their customer… Warranty only applies to the original owner and is non-transferrable. That is the policy of all manafacturers. It will be interesting to hear how they word it, but the message will be the same. Sorry.

Oh yeah, i almost forgot. Get some proper tyres to do it justice! Panaracer were ok in about 2001, but things have moved on somewhat since… Maxxis all the way i'd say!
