i asked the same question about my evil and a fox 36 van, mixed replies, about 50/50,

best thing to do is try it, mine worked and i love it,dont notice the weight or anything like that, just notice it holds it's line and soaks up everything with ease, looks mighty fine too

my mate had a talas 36 on his cove stiffee, same thing, lots of people said no, he tried it and it was a big yes
    😀

my old freeview box which never worked properly,

my old microsoft explorer mouse(sick of the sight of it after 7yrs on my desk),

my trusty seiko divers watch, £150 quid to repair by seiko, lasted another 9 months after that and came
back with more scratches than when it left, tried complaining and they couldn't care a less,

all of them down the range @ 100m and treated to some high velocity lead,

the watch was the best, shot the mechanism clean out the back with a round through the crystal, another round cold welded itself in the side of the case, best fun i'd had in ages 😀

well i did purchase an iMac and well, it's bloody brilliant, love it to bits already, everything about it is so much better than my pc, the display is simply stunning, i was watching the follow me trailers in HD and it was mind blowing,

as for the magic mouse and paper thin keyboard 😀

it has taken quite a bit of getting used to after using pc's everyday for around the last 16 yrs (i have four at work, two in my office and two pc machine tools using mitsubishi software on windows 2000, still struggle a little after the first week but youtube is only a click away

even mrs skiboy is staggered 😛

i have just started making my third garageband techno/electronic/dance track, amazing bit of free software,

thanks for all the opinions and advice, it was well balanced and really helpful

yep i'm up for that, alpine was the first thing i looked at after giving up on the bfe, i was up brickhill woods/woburn/aspley call it what you will the other week, resting with the guys after the first hrs ride, soem guys i think they were the lot from reserviourgoats hauled up, one of them was riding a kwaka green alpine and it looked very nice even when parked next to my sov 😯

i have both a new 2010 sov and a 3 yr old soul, love them both, my sovs finish is perfect and the envy of friends, i have a white one and the finish is almost pearlesant, the welds are perfect and when i took it out the box it was obvious why it cost 600 quid, lovely attention to detail,

my soul is a red version, the only bit i don't like is the stickers are on top of the paint, apart from that it is a cracking bike and i will never part with it,

the sov is a heavier ride but downhill and in the air it inspires confidence, the soul is much more agile but a little bit more skitty going downhill but still very inspiring, the cotic climbs much better and is less tiring to get to the top,

both in my opinion are on the top rung of hardtails, you won't go far wrong with either, (i should point out that i bought the sov as i gave up waiting for the delivery of a new bfe after 5 months, but i don't regret buying it although the bfe is bloody lovely too)

enjoy what you now have, but if you get the chance buy the cotic soul as well,

No don't do it , the wall cavity is there for a reason
Without it you're home won't breath properly and you
Risk damp and moisture building up inside the house,

I have used this before, Nylatron, in my spearfishing gun, the part i remade carries an m3 thread and hasn't failed after 7 yrs of occasional use. it has good mechanical properties and is around £400 for a 300mm long 1.5'' bar, BUT i have some kicking around i think, how much do you need ?

ok this is getting silly now,

I'm buying a Mac because I've given up with windows, not because i want a Mac,

My current defunkt PC does have a very good anti virus in NOD32 but not having to spend another £40.0 a yr on it is a positive where i come from,

I've built my own pc's before, it was very stable and i learned a lot doing it + i found it fun, (but now i can't be arsed)

Bill Gates makes my piss boil as does Steve Jobs, i want to smash their collective faces in, Steve, using my iphone 3G running the new 4th generation software, although with his current health status it would be as much fun as using the aforementioned, Bill i would like to drop a crate of returned vista disk's on him from the back of the microsoft company jet, just for being a ****, being slighly ginger and producing sh1t that constantly needs tweeking,

I just want something that works all the time when it's asked, and doesn't need me sitting at it for 40 mins downloading and adding patches
jsut to get ot going, Mac wins.

end of thread. thankyou and goodnight.

    thanks guys,

don't quite understand all those points, i'm just buying the base iMac ?nothing flash about that I know of, even priced around the same a average PC,

it's just a case of getting fed up with windows hanging up and crashing etc etc, as i said i run solidworks and alphacam at work as well as a host of other 'heavy' MRP databases etc on a pc, I have no intention of taking work home, so no worries about that,

I just want something that works and doesn't need an upgrade everytime it starts up, also not having to run a virus scanner is quite appealing,

i Don't want to spend the money, it is part of my new landrover fund and i worked hard for it, but needs must and i currently have 140 itunes albums (paid for)and nearly 20gig of photos hanging by a thread on an
unbaked up hard drive in an increasingly volitile pc,

    much love and thanks

I have 160 vans on my evil soveriegn,2010 and I have 140 vanillas on my '07 cotic soul,

the soul was supposed to be 120max and the sov is 140 max,

i spoke to evil before i brought the frame, they know plenty of peeps that run 160's, i love this bike like this, it doesn't climb as steadily as the soul, but ar5e forward on the saddle, elbows under bars, keeping the pedal load even and it will climb everything my soul climbs 😛

at connock's monkey it was a doodle to ride up all those switchback climbs and i was passing plenty of other riders who didnt have huge pogo sticks up front.

the frame seems quite happy as well, in fact it's incredibly sure footed and confidence inspiring and i don't worry about the headtube snaping and poking my eyes out 😛

broke two of mine 5 weeks ago,

hurt like buggery for the first two weeks, then started slowly getting
    better,
couldn't sleep on my left for 4.5 weeks, hospital told me 6-8 weeks to heal,
First trip back up the woods yesterday, and ribs are 98% ,

i takes a while,be patient and try and rest, you'll be fine soon enough,

    good luck

Thanks for the support men although I have to say both the butler and our best footman have each been given a pair of purdeys by the gamekeeper and Been told to keep a look out for any unsavoury mountain cycle drivers,

Didn't really mean it to be a willy wave but never mind, all I was trying to say is why spend money you clearly don't have just to give the perception you have money , chucking cash down the drain especially during a recession is not good praying and will cost you dear in the pocket,
And let's face it that 4k probrally won't buy you a lot on a day which you won't really remember any how, it goes far too quick if I recall ,still you prob won't forget it for at least 18 months if you go for the cash 🙂

    Right back to the pile

whatever, it was 530am ffs 😉 the point was why spend more than you can afford, i could go out at lunch today and get a huge loan and buy a massive pe-us car etc but i would much rather drive around in my landy or golf both 10yrs old and paid for, imo theres too much keeping up with the joneses in this country, must have cant wait and all that, we have all had our brains programmed, down the road from me most homes have 3-4 cars on the driveway all just a few years old most of them sh1t cheap models(but must buy new to give the perception of wealth), they are all living in little ex-council houses in front of argos plasma tv's strapped to the pins with debt for what ?,

it's the celeb culture, i blame it on the football..and the foxes.

couldn't agree more with the others,

if you need to borrow the money then you can't afford it, its simlpe,

going into married life stacked up with debt is not exactually a good idea
and when vat etc is just about to go up to 20%!, warning signs of tougher times ahead maybe?

we spent 4K total on our wedding, we had about 35 guests, it was in a nice hotel, the actual service was in our local church, we spent 1K on our honeymoon and went to Bali and flores for 3 weeks and backpacked budjet style,

six yrs on we are debt free, own our own large house, have no mortage ,2 cars on the drive, 8K of mountian bikes in the shed, have 2 beautiful little girls and my wife doesn't have to work,

not luck, just well thought out but most importantly did it for ourselves and not so people thought we were better off,
you should try never arguing about money, its the bestway to live in a marrage

    JAM29er,

we have quite a good humour culture here, i'm one of the senior managers here and annoucing i've gone commando in the middle of a meeting would not even raise an eyebrow,

My Md signs any Cad or solidworks models for french or swiss companies as TFT, they never ask why which is good as it stands for F-k the french, German companies get drawings and models signed A.English, no such person works here, debagging is 'de rigeur' here as is spraying people with Isopropanol while they have their backs to you..etc etc..childish yes, who cares.

quite apt as this morning i had to stop to check i had my shreddies,

in 9 years of daily commuting i've done it loads, i always send an email out telling everyone i've gone commando,

Also done socks loads not relevant until you get a soaking the same day, I have found rolls of tissue wrapped around the foot work,

trousers, forgot once, spent the morning wearing my Freddie mercury's (endura bibs) with steel toecaps, it's a great look on the shop floor 😯

Most deadly (didn't look like they could be arsed to kill you TBH)

Komodo Dragon, quite afew of them on Rinca island ,komodo park ,indo 2004,

    most frightnening,

a pair of lion fish the size of medicine balls, nearly bumped into one while spearfishing on the reef off seraya cercil island, flores ,indo, that would have been the last thing i did as the hospital was an hour away and the boat could not have left the island because it was low tide,

    best,

huge sea turtle just popped up next to us few miles off shore of seraya
when we were out on the dugout boat, massive and scared the crap out of me,

    good work jim bob,

I'm liking that sov, welcome to the evil fold,

looks like i'm not the only one with dodgy cable outers 😛

I'm still in lots of pain from crashing out on the monkey a few weeks back, been riding my cotic soul to work to give my ribs a rest until they heal properly, (normally ride a SS daily but having trouble standing on the hills) then i will be back up the woods on the sov..

    i love mine mainly because,

    I'm one of the bosses,

I'm the second highest paid in the building(next to the MD),

I get paid for every hour i work and anytime i'm there after
    40hrs i get time and a half(around 15-20 hrs a week)!!!just like all the
guys who work for me :P,

The ride is 8 miles each way every day 😛

I enjoy the work and my work collegues are some of the best i could ask for,

we have shops, a chippy and chinesse opposite !!, i have a fridge outside my office door and two microwaves,

On saturday is set up my hammock on the trees outside 😀

we have four serious mountian bikers at work out of 20 people,

had this TUM 110 FFR for 7 years nearly,

brought it from the British army auctions@ witham specialist vehicles, it came green and completey full of sand and dust in places, 34000 mls on the clock when I brought it and on it's second engine.( should be noted that ffr stands for fitted for radios, it has a throttle lever like a choke so you can set the revs to run the radios or charge the batteries while parked up, putting quite a lot of extra wear on the engine,)

it has permanent 4 wheel drive and all the diffs etc, the base is built onto a beefier landrover chassis and looking underneath you can see the difference,

i haven't started it since new years day but i know just a turn of the key and a few pumps on the peddle and it will be off,

downsides include: 65mph top speed, 20 mpg 8O, funny looks from other drivers, the odd mistake by military convoys flashing at me etc etc.

plus points include: always having right of way on roundabouts, junctuons etc, you don't get much abuse from road rage drivers, scratches dont count, go anywhere ability, free shed 8O. washable interior,

it is for sale at the end of the summer, money is going to go on a newish 110 county 7 seater TD5 for summer jaunts to southern france and alps 😛

i have one in the middle of my left pupil, follows me round like an old dog 😉

I asked my optician if there was anything i could do about it, there is a procedure that envolves taking all the fluid and gel out of the eye cleaning it and replacing it, BUT she said she would not advise it unless i fancied possibly living the rest of my life with only one eye as it's a bit risky,

the floaters are leftovers from when your eyes are formed or fall off as they deteriate, your brain will learn soon enough to fill in the gap and then focus out the black floater, with me it took around 4 weeks, but occaisonaly it comes back,
