    nothwind,yep like that one,

a favorite of mine i must confess is passing people on the redways that are listening to ipods etc, scares the crap out of them everytime,

had a bunch of girls a few years back, were too busy chatting 4 abreast on the cyclepath to hear me coming even after i shouted mind your backs at about 5 meters , after i passed one shouted 'get a bell' i stopped and let them know that if they couldn't hear a –king 40 yrs old man shouting at them from 5 meters a bell would not be the answer,

just read some more of the posts above, my hearing is most definitely 3D, despite being an engineer in a noisy
environment, i can hear things without concentrating that most people couldn't hear with a stethoscope,

if a watch with a mechanical tick is in the same room as me at night i pick it almost as soon as i walk in the room!

i do know where cars are in relation to my position, so i do go with what some of the others are saying

nothing against people wearing headphones… BUT…….

they do affect your situational awareness, I see plenty of people wearing them riding everyday, some in ear, others closed cup, wouldn't do it myself,

What bothers me the most is seeing people, usually young ladies walking through some of the less populated areas of the city while listening to their ipods etc, absolutely asking
to me mugged, raped, murdered or worse, they wouldn't even know You/I/Us* where there until it was all over 😐

    *delete as appropriate

personally i prefer to listen to the sound of my chain, the birds, my lungs and heart, I've always felt that if i needed music to make my ride enjoyable then something is wrong in my life.. but that's me , not everyone's the same.

i had one as a first car, clubman, loved it so did three of my mates who owned it before me (in 6 months), i had met a new girl who lived 20 miles away, while my mate rick took pity and sold it to me for £25, he bought another one a few days later, happy days indeed, my wife had one when i first met her, if we went anywhere we would always take her car and i would drive 😀

Eric Cantona at Le Saint Geran, mauritius, i thought he was going to give me a slap as my wife was pointing at him,

Dale winton sitting next to us and being hassled by grannies in a coffee shop in holetown ,barbados, seemed to be a very nice chap.

Dominic diamond (don't laugh) sat next to us in Angry Annies, holetown, barbados

Ant and Dec (appeared on 'friends like these' with them in 2000) ant lovely bloke, the other one grumpy

i always say good morning to anyone who makes eye contact, cycling, walking or otherwise,

and yes, if you say good morning to someone and they blank you, they are usually are a pr1ck and bad mannered,
a total toss pot, wrapped up in their own lives, pretty normal these days,

yes my parents did love me , whats your excuse ?

in milton keynes most people will greet you morning or night, especially up woburn on a sunday.

i was in bristol at the weekend, my friend has just returned to mtb's so i took my cotic soul with me so we could ride over to ashton court and around the timberland trail,

Saturday we went to the jazz festival up town, lots of singlespeeds everywhere, bmx's, roadys etc,

sunday we crossed the city from the back of temple meads to the top of clifton and on to ashton, we saw plenty of bikes and riders and the thing that struck me was they were stuck up their own ar5e bloody rude, most refused to even give eye contact let alone a good morning, the exception was a guy on a black evil sov with his son, proof that good taste and good manners go hand in hand 😀

rest of the town riders, to55ers,

I have a sov, there good for the job if you don't mind the price , if not you should go for a dialled alpine or a bfe , I gotta say I love the alpine they look amazing in the flesh, I love the bfe too ,especially the new blue one, I had my name down for one but ended up building a sov instead ,
given the choice again between these 3 bikes which I recon fit the burly long fork requirement to a tee , I would still have to think hard to which is the best ,
    Tough question !

first mountain bike i saw was at the first ever mountain bike event held in the uk, i think it was 1983 but it could have been anytime between 81-84

it was at the 'real' aston hill in halton, nr wendover bucks, there was two bikes a muddy fox and some other thing that i have been informed since was in fact a cleveland ?,

they had roped out a small course around the bowl of aston hill and up into the tree line, i was invited along with the aylesbury cycling club and we only went along to take the pi55, oh how we laughed dressed in our lycra and vittrola cycling shoes and cleats, this will never catch on..scoff scoff

i brought my first proper mtb some years later in 1989, a diamond back accent ex, 400 pounds i think, my brother was riding then too, a kona cindercone with P2's , what days..

ow thats a bit bitchy, you asked a question to which people have given you their honest answers, if you didn't want to hear the answers you shouldn't have asked the masses,

a lot of us can see a potential accident in the making, guns, indoors, kids neighbours, police , why don't you get some stella in the mix and go the whole hog,

as for shooting rabbits as a teenager, i've done the same, been around guns all my life but i still know not to shoot through a house, good luck,

    skiboy
    Free Member

The most important thing is to teach your kids
To shoot responsibly and you have failed in teaching them to shoot through your house , sorry if it sounds preachy but that sets the standard for them to follow, find a club or a farm, another thing to consider is the reaction of neighbours ,most will knee jerk at the site of a gun , all weapons air or powder are considered as firearms by the police and if called they will respond in a way you may find rather uncomfortable ,
I can put a legal powered 177 pellet through a 4mm nylon plate at 100m and it goes clean through , if that was to hit someone it could seriously wound them or even with a fluke of a shot, kill them, for that reason you should never shoot anywhere where you can't see the shot fall ,
Sorry, really just saying you should be careful, teach your kids to shoot , just not in your house and garden .

I'm liking that 16600 on leather 'fatblokefromwarwick',

I dislike being called a willy waver, but totally get peoples mis-understanding at why some of us would spend large amounts of cash on a
watch like a 16600, i was planning to buy mine for my 40th, but when i heard at Basel they were launching a super case modern version of this classic(the SDDS), i jumped in at 38 yrs of age to secure the most iconic divers watch ever made, compared to the moden rolex and the modern expensive watch an original sd is subtle and everyone thinks your wearing a fake anyway so wheres the togder wave in that ????

    oh dear,

bit off the bike thing, but in that norman documentary last night on the beeb, in an old 10th C document the norman king of Sicily describes england as ''a land in the perpetual grip of winter'',

you have to laugh, i stopped watching the weather years ago, i look out the window , if its sunny i go out, if it's raining i go out, just buy some mud tyres and forget about it OR move to a warmer clime, i think the weather always like this, been the same in the 41 yrs i've been here 😀

cheers, didn't see any piles last sunday, but have encountered a few things similar in the last few months, could just be kids dicking around but some people up there don't want us thats for sure, will keep an eye out, glad that RC1 was clear sunday morning, i came down there like a man possessed , unfortunatly there was a lady with a horse walking out of the paddock gate at the exit, despite my most sincere apologies she didn't seem to except that it was a harmless coincidence.

i only ride SS to work, so apart from chain adjust and a new chain every year i dont have to bugger around with
gear cables and put up with poor shifting etc etc, (previous bike have always been a faff, 75 miles a week every week rain or shine and deep snow)

wouldn't ride ss up the woods though, but i can see why some people would,

i have to say upper body strength is massively improved riding a ss

i found a cist in the stringy bits 4 years ago, much worry etc, did the docs then specalist route, even had my balls ultra sounded in front of most of the ultra sound department 😯

turned out to be a ordinary cist, know of three other people who have the same, so don't worry yourself but at the same time get it seen to put your mind at rest,

most important don't bloody google it or self diagnose 😉

i just bought a lightwave t2 ultra xt 2 man tent, bit pricey but very nice, only arrived last weekend so i haven't managed to put it up yet,

cost 450ish plus another 50 for the footprints (optional)

the tent weighs just under 2.5 kilos, the footprints hardly anything, it did a bit of scouting before buying and these seemed to be one of the best tents out there, it has room for two bikes in the awning !!! front wheels removed,

    lightwave.uk.com

it is for riding with on the C2C next spring, and the others are right there are some really good deals and sales out there,

I too am in the market for some lightweight sleeping bags so suggestions please,

as for Tarps, try ddhammocks.com , we were going the tarp and hammock route and these guys look the bomb, worth a look.

bag wise we are going for Osprey talon 44's , i tried one on last week in blacks, very nice loads of nice touches top finish .

my dad was over last week (he normally lives in ireland,nr kilkenny),

he is always full of wonderful words of wisdom, he spent most of the week telling me i'm going to die because i ride to work and people always get killed riding bikes to work!,

    but

the pearl was while we were watching tv he just suddenly announced in his usual irish way that ''the man across the road from him counts his sheep using a satellite'', he looked at me dumbstruck as i rolled around on the floor pi55ing myself

did you jet wash the tanks, we always drag them outside and clean them, system cleaner or biocide (if you can get it) may help,

who supplies your coolant ?, you should contact them,
what have you been machining ? Mc'ing centre or lathe ?

if you are really desperate you can use a lot of bleach in the coolant,
